Strength:

roomy, nice ride

Weakness:

slider doors

I purchased the 2004 Sienna in May of 2003. Many problems with back seat, seat belt, brought in several times finally after 4 times was fixed, but needed a manager to get it done correctly. Living in New England the back slider doors freeze in snow, rain and cold weather, you can imagine how hard it is to get children in or out. After 4 or 5 times brought in it is still not corrected, safety issue. I even called Toyota and still not resolved. If you can't get them in correctly how would get them out in an emergency?
My car is now at Toyota getting a new motor on the back automatic slider door, already been there 4 days and part still is not in, good thing I bought extended warranty or I would be dishing out over $1000. Many recalls including a new gas tank.
I like the ride but Toyota needs to step up to the plate and get things fixed when vehicles are brought in.

Strength:

Rides nice, handles nice, and it is good on snow and ice if quipped with the right tires.

Weakness:

Does not live up to expectations as far as Toyota reliability goes. Not good on gas. Lots of annoying little problems - nothing major however.

This is my 4th Toyota - the others being one Corolla and 2 4-Runners. It is a little aggressive on gas and does not have the Toyota reliability that I was used to. The little things go wonky on it like broken door handles, Y-connector on exhaust (3 times), radio, rear door, rear side windows, power steering - the list of little $350-$500 things goes on forever. The others were 1990 4-Runner, 1997 4-Runner and 1991 Corolla - all they ever needed were brakes and timing belts. If you are a regular Toyota owner and buy a Sienna you will be let down by the reliability.

Everything else

Do not buy this car unless you feel bad for me and want to end my misery with it. We bought it used a little over a year ago with 25,000 miles on it since then we have replaced the transmission, tie rod, ball joint, breaks, roaters...much more. This car is evil.

Nice interior

Weakness:

oil leaks, paint

3rd oil leak in 10 months, coming to end of the warranty and we need to get rid of it. We bought it used with the intention of driving it until it died. We thought that would be about 10 years easy. Didn't think it would only take 10 months. Also terrible paint, scratches and chips just by looking at it. Do NOT take it on any gravel roads.

I was just in a scary accident because the brakes totally failed and the car continued at a medium speed and did not slow down until I hit another vehicle. Weather conditions were fine- no wet pavement, etc. I avoided as many cars as possible but had no choice but to plow into moving traffic. I could have died. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. I have encountered this problem about a year ago for a shorter time & managed to maneuver the car until it stopped. Has anyone else encountered failing brakes? The brakes were replaced at 24,000 miles. I have driven another 15,000 miles. The vehicle is being repaired- but I feel it will still be unsafe to drive.

Strength:

Reliability. Safety.

Weakness:

Exterior fading. Dont buy their extended warranty. We paid 400 dollars to fix a hose clog that was due to a design anomaly. They knew it happened, but they wouldn't cover it with my lame $700 upgraded warranty.

Bought new. Awesome so far. The plastic exterior parts start fading and looking pasty after a while if you dont garage the car. Performs well as a practical car. Reliability has been good. It does what it is expected to do. Definitely has too wide of a turning radius.

It runs

Weakness:

Paint
Pooe Mileage
repeated problems with sliding doors
noise in engine

Apart from the lack of seal on the paint, which results in easy scratching, the mileage for the past 6 months has been between 16-18 miles per gallon, regardless of city or on the road driving. The dealer is not interested in correcting the problem

it looks good!

Weakness:

transmission, radio, service received

The van has less than 1000 miles and we have had it for a little over 3 weeks. We have had the transmissoin fail twice, both times in very dangerous situations. We are fighting to get rid of this lemon and are very disappointed in Toyota. We are also having electrical problems with the radio.

Strength:

Good design. Roomy, smooth ride, powerful engine

Weakness:

poor quality, poor fuel economy, expensive to own.

The quality is horrible. 4 recalls. With in 2 years - serviced the power windows 2x, serviced the sliding side doors 2x, glove box will not close, muffler/exhaust system needs replacing at 38K miles, burns through tires - I've had the alignment done 2x, (thank god Firestone honors their warranties) burns through brakes due to undersized/poor quality brakes. Plastic trim is cheap and pops out of floor around the seat locks. Fuel economy is not even close to Toyota's estimate. (in fact it is so bad Toyota should be fined for lying) Expect 15 mpg at best. I purchases a 100K mile extended warranty and Toyota will not honor it for any repairs that I needed done. DON'T GET SUCKERED INTO BUYING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.

1997 Nissan Quest (actually a Ford) At 90K miles it started buring oil. I traded it in for my Sienna. :(

Strength:

Very comfortable seating. Nice leather in interior. Very roomy.

Weakness:

Electrical system, chronic brake problems, numerous recalls which are resolved very cheaply.

We went with the higher priced toyota over the competitors because of the extreme comfort and reliability. Well, it is comfortable but reliable??? NO way!
We have had four recalls on the van. One of the recalls was for a van door that does not stay open when parked facing downhill. What was Toyota's repair?? NOTHING> We were given a sticker to put on the door that basically says "Dont park on a hill and open the door" Some recall. We have had lots of trouble with the brakes. Have had the brakes replaced four times in three years. The electrical system causes the rear air to go off and on at random regardless of the setting. The radio will sometimes stick in the on position and cant be turned off. The tire pressure light comes on at random. We have had tire pressure checked each time and there is no problem.
