Strength:
Very Sporty. Extremely comfortable seats even for the passenger. Great room for cargo. Well planned out dashboard all features are easily accessable. 6 speed manual trans is a delight to use. Car grips the road tightly. Excellent pickup for passing on the highway & also great off the line. Found myself able to speed up to highway traffic spead very quickly. Great leg & head room (I stand 5' 11")
Weakness:
The engine is somewhat noisy and the car could be insullated much better. 6 CD-Changer Radio system they say is "premium" but is average, could use better speakers. No leather option (could use one). The cup holders are rather small. Don't expect to put a McDonald's Large or Supersize cup in these cup holders nor any 24 ounce water bottle. AC Adapter they claim can handle a Laptop Computer. My laptop comes with a 3 prong plug, the plug in the Matrix is only 2 prong. I gave up driving a Chevy S10 Pickup to go back to a car. I got spoiled by the S10's 4.3L 6Cyl 190 Horsepower engine. So I opted for the Matrix XRS due to sporty engine. I was not dissapointed. Normally when I test drive a car I'm not overly impressed, this car put a smile on my face. |

Strength:
Solid feel and tight driving. Deceiving spaciousness inside. Great option package and price. Lots of 'zip' and unbelieveable gas mileage. Best new car purchase in a long time
Weakness:
Wish the seat covers were a little softer but I guess that's the sporty feel of it. Nothing else besides that These reviews were one of the deciding factors for me to buy this car...also that my 1998 Chevy Blazer was breaking down with only 42K miles! We have a 2000 Voyager (the adult car) and my husband convinced me we should get something sporty, fun, and yet still practical for the 'kiddies'. This car drove well, the gas mileage is SOOO nice, and it's actually got MORE options than my Blazer had for less money. I really believe in the quality and it's solid throughout. I LOVE MY MATRIX!!!! Similar Products Used: 2000 Voyager 1998 Chevy Blazer (rip off after warranty) 1993 Acura Vigor (still miss her) |

LOTS more room than expected. Can haul big chairs and wood. Love having a 6 speed. I like the interior styling, black and chrome work very well together, and makes styling very easy and sharp. Lots of neat storage spaces. I like the view from the cockpit, a bit higher than Im used to (owned a Dodge Stealth) and at first thought would make the car seem less stable in the turns...but in actuality it holds the road very well for such a relatively 'high-profile' car, and gives excellent road vision.
Weakness:
6 speed is a little notchy, may bother some, but not me too much. I think the engine RPM is too high at highway speeds, even with 6th gear, that makes it a little noisy above 75mph...but up to that point at cruising speeds its very comfortable. I am loving this car! I dont drive too rough, but having the XRS really makes it fun to let it out when I get those urges. Very sharp looking too, and takes to custom cosmetic accessories very well. Gas mileage has been WONDERFUL! Im getting right at 30 MPG, much higher than estimated |

Its a nice lil car it good looking, quick, roomy, versatile, easy to get and out of responsive.
Weakness:
Headlights don't cut off at night well in gear, and yes the sound dampening could be better, no leather option, or sunroof, for the xsr, speakers suck. Its a cross of the sporty corolla and the celiac. but a wagon corolla. Similar Products Used: mazda Mp5, VW Jetta Wagon, Ford focus Sister car the vibe |

Comforable and roomy. Very well put together and everything works. The six disc CD changer was defective out of the box but was replaced by Toyota and now works great.
Weakness:
A bit noisy on heavy acceleration. Instruments hard to read when wearing sunglasses in bright sunlight. Cruise control a bit difficult to use - would prefer controls on steering wheel as is more common with other cars. I tend to mix up the cruise control stick with the wiper control stick. I recently sold a '92 Ford Escort wagon which I dearly loved. (If Ford still made that car it would have been no contest.) I wanted another small wagon but found the field limited. The Focus has had 12 recalls. The Jetta looks good but Consumer Reports have trashed it as well as the Volvo V40. I settled on the Matrix and am delighted. One sits a bit higher than normal in it which makes it very comfortable. I have driven it up and down the east coast from CT to FL and find it to be a great road car - smooth riding and quiet at cruising speeds. Highway mileage has been in the low 30's - not quite as high as advertised, but then I didn't drive at 55 MPH. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort |

Nice looks, roomy.
Weakness:
Mis-designed week power steering and inherant steering wander (car never goes straight). Worthless for long drives. Even filing a Lemon Law complaint could not make Toyota fix the steering wander and broken power steering, evan after they replaced the steering rack. If you don't want to spend every 1/2 second correcting the car as it wanders left and right, but never straight, buy something else. |

Value. I was unable to find a car of this performance level for $26,000. Driver controls. My wife says that it is a boring car for her to be a passenger in but is a great drivers car. Rear seat room. This car has more rear seat room than the Jetta or Mazda. I have three kids (under age of 10) and they find it roomy. This was a critical consideration when looking for a car.
Weakness:
I wish it had a sunroof! Cheesy Tonneau cover. This is a fantastic car. I do alot of Hwy driving and have put 68,000 km on in 15 mos (35 - 37 mpg Hwy). This car has tons of speed and acceleration. I like that I can easily pass anyone on the highways without having to be overly concerned about how much space I need. The driving controls are all in very excellent position and easily adjusted. I purchased a set of 16" rims and winter tires for winter driving. This was an excellent choice for me as I have encountered some harsh weather and the car handled beautifully. I have had absolutely no problems with this car and have only performed routine maintenance like fluid changes. I compared this car to many others (Camry, Corolla, Altima, Maxima, Honda, Mazda, and Jetta) and I believe that it was the best value for styling, handling, and horsepower (180 Hp). I like the red lit dash and the sound system is good. Similar Products Used: In last 10 years have only owned minivans and SUV's! |
