Strength:

Gas mileage, cargo capacity, reliability

Weakness:

Air conditioning, washer fluid tubes.

We purchased our Montana new in 1997. It's now 2008 and has 155,000KM on it and very little has gone wrong with our van. It did have a recall in the first year (leaking brake line) but so far we've only replaced the battery in 2007 and the brake pads once. The rest of the expenses have been in general maintenance, oil changes, tune-ups, tires, etc.. We opted for the heavy duty trailering package and maybe that has made a difference to the longevity of our van. The are some minor things that we don't like, namely the windshield washer fluid tubes on the front wipers getting iced up easily in the winter and a weak air conditioning system. Our mechanic made us aware of the leaky head gasket problem and checks it every time it's in for an oil change (every 3 months). It still drives beautifully but because of it's age we are now making the rounds of dealerships looking at new/newer vans. Because of how reliable this van has been I don't think we would hesitate to buy another Montana.

THE ABILITY TO GET ME TO MISS WORK

Weakness:

NO STRENGHTS, PLUS THE INTERIOR GETS STAINED WITH WATER

GARBAGE, I HAVE OWNED THIS THING FOR 2.5 YEARS, AND HAVE HAD TO THE GARAGE 2 MANY TIMES TO COUNT. DOOR CHIMES WHEN YOU HIT A POT HOLE, 3 SETS OF TIRES IN 33,000 MILES 3 SETS OF BRAKES, TIE ROD, STARTER ISSUES THAT HAVE SUPPOSEDLY BEEN FIXED(LOL), AND TONIGHT THE COMPRESSOR WILL NOT STOP RUNNING AND THE REAR OF THE VAN IS ABOUT A FOOT HIGHER THAN THE TIRES AND THE LOAD LEVELING SYSTEM WILL NOT DRAIN THE AIR, MUST CALL OFF TOMORROW JUST TO HAVE THE PIECE OF CRAP TOWED TO THE GARAGE. I WOULD NEVER (BUY ANOTHER) IF THEY HADENT STOPPED MAKING THEM. I GUESS GM WAS THE SMART ONE HERE

Fuel sesor went at 6km (yes 6km). Still waiting for a new part (2 weeks and counting). Not enough storage design. Rear windshield wiper bearly works.

Not impressed. If you need a van try anything but a Montana. I have had issues since I have taken possession.

Great looking, visibility is very good. Ride is good. Very good on gas and has lots of power.

Weakness:

Bad points are: crappy workmanship. Materials cheap, easy to dirty hard to clean. easy to scratch and mark
Looks beat up fast even though you take every precaution to prevent damage. Colour of interior is quick to dirty. Very hard to clean interior roof is a soft valure material that if dirtied will not clean without damage. Back bumper top is easy to scratch when taking things out and putting things in. plastic inside is soft and easy to mark. After one year it's a rattle trap. My old toyota car 98 has less rattles.

Cheap and Junkie but good looking powerful easy on gas

Strength:

Ride, Power, engine, good transmittion, load leveler, sound system, comfort for a tall person, It is also in my opinion, the best looking van on the market. The DVD player works fine but I have never really watched a movie on it. Im older and have no kids at home, but it came with the van so why complain? The air pump in the back is handy for blowing up air mattresses ect. It handles very well on the highway, with pavement cracks not as jarring as even a lot of big sedans! It actually handles and rides like a big sedan and I drove Grande Marquis for years before buying this van. The seats are a bit of a pain to remove, but not as bad as some. We take the seats out and sleep on an air mattres in the back when camping.

Weakness:

Some of the selectors for heat, Sound system and the trip computor are difficut to read, especially on a sunny day. The heater could be better, it takes a while to warm up the van.

This is a good van! I have had no serious problems at all. The only thing I have had to do is normal maintenence like oil changes. I have an extended warrenty on it just in case, but hope I never have to use it. Reading the reviews on this van and others, including cars, trucks and most other things is that there are people who write bad reviews on anything they choose, just for the fun of it. It is difficult to take the reviews on this site seriously. Im sure there are people who have had genuine problems, but im also sure that can happen with any vehicle! The Montana is as good as it gets with vans. It has more features, that actually work than any other I have driven. I looked at Toyota, Honda, Ford, Dodge and chose the Montana for ride, features, engine reliability and looks. Im not dissapointed at all!

Similar Products Used:

I drove a Dodge Caravan for a month while my former vehicle was in the shop being repaired and it wasnt bad, but doesnt ride like the Montana, didnt have the comfort, and class that the Montana has. I also tried out the Honda, (very overpriced for what you get) but not bad, Toyota, same thing. Ford Freestar, looks nice, rides nice, but I was scared of it because of the not so good reputation of the Windstars.

WARNING!!!!! Don't waste your money!!! I must agree with the majority. There is no way in God's creation will I ever purchase another Montana, if that means I have to walk. Even with extended waranty, with all the money I spent on repairs (and it is still not completely fixed), I could have a healthy down payment on another van that I don't worry about being on the road with.
