Strength:

Wonderful for long trips, air conditioning and heat adequate in respective seasons. Cockpit display cluster clear and easy to understand.

Weakness:

Needs more oomph! The electric seatbelts are a waste of time, as one has to reach over anyway to attach the lap belt. The housings for the taillight bulbs are disappointingly very cheap in construction, as the bulb tension spring base is poorly thought out-thin plastic!!!
Too low to the ground, and replacement parts, such as the anti-knock sensor (300$ CDN-located right in the middle of the head of the engine block, under the cooling fluid lines which are under the fuel intake manifold, which is under the air intake manifold...etc....
Sliding door does not lock open and almost cost me my fingers...

Relatively happy with an eight-year old van. Expensive on parts, which is due to it's Nissan heritige, but otherwise a fine vehicle for a small family.

Strength:

I absolutely fell in love with this van the first time I test drove it.
Digital dash, leather & powered seats great with kids. Great for road trips!

Weakness:

We have had this van in for realignment a few times. However, we have experienced a problem with the steering. When it sits, parked, for a period of time and then you get in and start driving it the steering wheel shakes terribly! I just took it in for the steering bolt recall, hoping this would eliminate the problem. I received a message today stating that they are going to replace the "steering rack". They also stated that I would need new tires soon. I question if the "steering rack" problem is a result in my 2 yr old van needing new tires?

Overall, love this van! Great with kids, trips, shopping, comfort, etc.
I would purchase another one.

Strength:

Drives like a car

Weakness:

Major problem with the sliding doors...I have been told there is no fix for it. The door latches are very weak, and when parked on a hill and you open the doors, the sliding doors can and will unlatch and come crashing down on you. This, I have been told, is an ongoing problem with the 93-99 models..It has been fixed in the 2000 model. I have two small children who have almost gotten arms, legs, etc...broken when the doors have come crashing down. I am not done investigating this, as I feel that we were ripped off being sold a car like this.

If you value your arms, legs, fingers and toes, do not buy this van in a model earlier than a 2000. I am very disappointed and would never buy another one.

Strength:

This van handles like a car. The ride is smooth and the seats are comfortable. Steering is great and emergency handling is good, also. Fuel mileage is good too. (17-20 in the city and 25-28 on the highway.) This van is very reliable. Out of 20000 miles, it has only been in the shop twice and both times were Ford recalls. So I have had no problems with it. It is the best car I have ever had.

Weakness:

Not many, I wish the front end would not scrape coming down a steep driveway.

Great experience, if you want a minivan get a Villager.

1994 Chevrolet Lumina Van- The Villager is much better. I had trouble with the Chevrolet almost the whole time I had it and sometimes it would take multiple trips to the dealership to have the problems fixed.

Strength:

I like it. Drives and PARKS like a car. Not heavy feeling. Plenty of room for my young family. Like the visibility you get from riding high.

Weakness:

I keep having this gas smell when I turn on the heater. That is the only time it happens. If I let it warm up before I turn it on, there is no smell. But that kind of lets out warming up the car before you leave for work. I just have to be cold until the engine gets warmed up. I have taken it in time and time again and everyone thinks I am crazy.

Wish it had cup holders in the middle.

I would recommend the Villager for families with young children. It can be uncomfortable for adults in the back. But in the few instances we have crammed them back there they liked it until it was time to get out. That was a little difficult for even the most limber adult.

My family sells cars so I drove all models for a few days at a time. I prefer the Villager because it is light feeling and handles just like a car. The other vans felt like I was dragging something.

Strength:

This vehicle looks very elegant. One of the nicest looking minivans. Very luxurious inside and out. The soft material used inside are nice (some aren't soft). Rides extremely nicely. Handles very well. It handles better than a lot of cars. Engine noise is well muffled (most of the time). You sit nice and high with excellent visibility. Very quiet at moderate speeds. Transmission shifts very smoothly. Seats are extremely comfortable and supportive. A lot of standard equipment. Seats are flexible and can fold, recline, slide forward etc. The rear stereo controls are great. Lots of storage in the front of the minivan. Headlights are extremely powerful especially the cornering lights. Pretty good sound system. A/C is pretty powerful.

Weakness:

I bought it used for my wife with 90,000 miles and starting to have problems. Had to replace the sterring pump (300.00) and 3 belts (200.00). 3 annoying rattles. 1) Plastic over the gauges 2) Middle row bench 3) Back windshield. Everytime the road is less than perfect these rattles are very annoying. Way too small. 2nd and 3rd row leg room is not that generous. Fitting 3 across on last row nearly impossible. Engine is very noisy when accelerating hard. Very little cargo space. If need room for 7 plus luggage DO NOT BUY THIS MINIVAN! No cupholders in middle row and no storage spots in the back. Very loud at highway speeds. No rear A/C. MAKE SURE YOU GET ONE! Some surfaces have very hard plastic and is awful looking. Braking is only so so.

Paid 14,00 CDN. I would recommend the Villager for a small family and bought brand new. It is starting to have problems problems now. I am looking into buying a SUV after this. Probably an Expedition after hearing how great they are. Well it's a good vehicle but way too small.

1995 Ford Windstar- Boy did I make a mistake and not buy the Windstar. The Windstar had only 60,000 miles and has tons and tons more room. The Windstar also rode nicer and was quieter. It also felt very solid except for rattle (Villager has 3). Only bought Villager because had nicer handling and that pleased my wife. The handling isn't even that much better. If I had a choice between the Villager and Windstar I would take the Windstar. I made a mistake.

Strength:

I like the fold down TV which is nice for the kids. It drives more like a car than a truck. really like the interior (leather), cd-player, options. Not the typical feel of the dreaded "mini-van" image--atleast while i'm inside of it.

Weakness:

The gas mileage to this point is really not pleasing.. maybe 13mpg on interstate. Very dissapointed, hopefully the dealership can repair this problem simply, or today's gas prices are gonna kill me. The stereo does lack some wattage for my limited edition "Footloose " Soundtrack.

Would recommend if the dealer throws in a free gas card. Just kidding, I will be totally satisfied once the gas mileages levels out to normal expectations. Paid $27,100.00 loaded--0.9% financing 60 months. Only missing a moon roof. Really like the warranty offered 6yr/100k. Good buy.

Strength:

Smooth driving, like the rear lift window, especially for groceries.

Weakness:

Has a "tinny" quality about it. Not very plush inside. Dealer placed a used wiper on my vehicle and never replaced it with a new one, none the less it is peeled and looks like crap. Horrible doors, no dent resistance whatsoever. Smallest taps make dents.

I don't think I would buy another Mercury Villager. Was not overall excited about this vehicle especially compared to the others on the market. It is good for a first time van buyer, but I don't think it was worth the money and doesn't seem to hold any value on resale either.

Strength:

Reliable, solid, quiet, smooth, great long lasting design, very comfortable seats for all sizes. We have 76,000 miles and car still runs like new without any problems. People can't believe it is 5 years old when they ride in it.

Weakness:

Needs more cup holders in middle seat area. Our cup holders were replaced with radio controls in middle seats for the kids. Back wind shield wiper has scratched the window.

We paid $14,000 for it when it was 2 years old with 20,000 miles. I would recommend this van for comfort, reliability and affordability. Big bang for the buck if you buy it slightly used.

We also have an '86 toyota van. The Villager is much more comfortable but I don't know how the engine will perform after 100,00 miles.

Strength:

It is the perfect size and is great on gas!

Weakness:

Could be more powerful! Rear wiper never worked right! I heard it is a bad design.

I like the way it drives, sometimes I don't even know it is running it is so quiet. There is plenty of room for my 2 big dogs, my baby(in a carseat.), my wife and I! We like how you can take the bench seat out from the middle and move the big bench forward enough to have a good space behind it for cargo, or dogs! My wife is short and is very comfortable driving this van, her legs reach the pedals without her body hugging the steering wheel. It is a very good buy!
