Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

Quick response, great in the snow/rain, rides like a charm, fast, roomy, can't praise it enough. Also, Drum Honda, Watertown, NY is the Best Dealer in the NATION! Service compares to none. Thanks "Easy Guys!"

Weakness:

Absent! Maybe the original rubber needs to be better quality. (Came with Michelin Symmetry - Only 40K maximum tread life!)

Just hit 50K-Love it, best vehicle I've ever owned. (Much better than my Passport!) Anyone who thinks this mini-van is bad must have another make. This van rocks!

Strength:

Good pickup, lots of room, electric doors, gas mileage and visibility, nickel and dime you to death with accesories.

Weakness:

Hestiation at 38 mph or so, driver's seat motor sounds like it is bad. Concern over the motors in the doors.

We were talked into buying a Chevy Tahoe and trading our 1999 Odyssey LX in for it. Big mistake. In less than a month, we traded the Tahoe in for another Honda Odyssey (2003). My wife uses it around tawon. Great pickup, however there does seem to be some kind of odd hesitation at 38 mph or so. Haven't had it looked at, but reading other reviews - it might be a tranny problem?? Interior is fine - lots more room than the Tahoe - amazing considering thesize difference between the two vehicles. This is our 2nd Odyssey, after owning a CIVIC for nearly 10 years and a couple of Occords. IMHO - still the best mini van out there. I think the previous Odyssey was probably better quality

Strength:

- 240hp/242 ft/lb torque. - one of the most roomy minivans out there. - excellent handling/braking. - nice looking, I think. - fairly good on gas. - solid, well made feeling. - Honda resale will be good.

Weakness:

- expensive in EX-L trim. - no exterior temp and compass - needs lighted controls on door and wheel. - my slurpee cup rolls around if placed on the floor. This is because, even though there are 10 cupholders, they are mostly big enough to hold a small coffee only. Some are so badly designed that the cup will fall out if your not careful. honda fix that! - speakers could have more ooomph but it's ok for me. - it's a minivan... I would have preferred a Porsche but it's not practical.

There is a poster who has repeatedly put down Honda vehicles and Honda quality saying it is Honda employees posting positive reviews. First off, he should no be allowed to post this form of slander. I am not an employee of Honda, nor have ever been one. I purchased my Odyssey in Jul 2003 after finally giving up on my 1996 Buick Regal. The repairs were as much as a monthly payment on a new vehicle. So far, we've put just over 6000kms on the van and have taken advantage of almost every option except the heated seats (not cold enough yet). I have been most impressed with it's power (240hp) and handling. The body roll in turns is minimal, handling much better than the Buick I had previously. Heck it handles better than any vehicle I've ever owned. The model we got, the EX-L, is fully loaded. It features leather trim and a DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones and remote. We've used this a couple of times and my wife and son enjoy it while I drive on the highway. While they watch a movie I can listen to the radio or CD or tape. This is the first foreign vehicle I have ever owned. Previously I have had GM products only. I am thoroughly pleased with the build quality of this vehicle. The dash does not squeak or rattle (which I'm used to in other vehicles, sans the Buick Regal) and controls are solid and well thought out. The vehicle has every conceivable option with the except of outside temperature and compass, which I cannot understand why it is not on a fully loaded van. As well, switches on the steering wheel and door are not lit up at night, I don't like that. I find the room amazing. If your in the second row, you can stretch out nicely. The third row it tight but folds away. I have used the van to haul stuff and to go camping and it works very well. I'm sorry I never bought minivans earlier. The van also has dual sliding doors which to me work well, I've had no problems, and find them a genuine convenience. The rear liftgate is not powered, but I don't mind. I highly recommend anyone who's looking for a minivan to check out Honda's offering.

Strength:

Design with family travel in mind.

Weakness:

Quality and reliability -- this car is not worth the extra thousands they demand.

Turns out the president of Honda is right to be concerned about a reduction in quality in their production lines. In less than 50,000 miles, the AC compressor has failed twice, there have been "chirping" cricket-like noises, that are RPM and engine-load related, coming from the left, front area that the "techies" can't hear and can't find -- related to the AC failure? The windshield has had 5 or 6 chips, cracks, "stars," maybe more than that. Repaired the first few, but got tired of dealing with it, and we are in the city, seldom, if ever on gravel or country roads. The front rotors had to be "shaved" because they were warped and caused the car to be unstable at high-speed braking. Honda would not replace them -- they are aware of the problem, but want to rework them before having to replace them. After the repair, the problem is not so bad, but leaves me with the uneasy feeling of being "squishy" and unreliable even though they seem to work OK. Finally, we paid the extra $2000 (+/-) for the IVES entertainment system - ceiling-mounted TV with wireless headphones, etc. We thought the $ was well worth it when we drove cross-country, or on long, local trips and practically forgot that the kids were in the back. However, one day, the VHS tape would not eject and the Honda people could not get it out -- the fix? The fix is a true "Detroit" design pearl. We were told the entire system had to be replaced, not because it was all bad, but because Honda doesn't sell parts -- all or none. No after-market components available and no other way to fix. I eventually stopped in a dealership in Wichita Falls, TX (I'm in Ohio), and their warranty clerk researched her information and found a bulletin that advised the dealer to not try to remove the tape, but to remove the whole player and send it in for repair or replacement. All in all, "Detroit" quality with a "Honda" price. I have a 98 Toyota Avalon, and just bought a 2003 Mazda Miata "toy." I would buy either one of these makes again, but, even though I have had a long-time respect for the Honda because of the Hondas I have owned, I don't think I will ever buy another Honda.

Strength:

looks, roominess, versatility, easy to get in & out

Weakness:

transmission, power plug lousy location, poor sound in radio/cd player w/bass rattle seats are hard, no left arm rest

Great looking mini-van, very roomy and lot's of power. Things I don't like are lousey location for power plug which is almost on the floor! Poor sound quality radio/cd player, speakers rattle if there's hardly any bass at all, I would suggest getting an upgrade if you are a music buff. Major problem: it started at the very beginning an occasional slip in the transmission between 25-35 MPH, then a very noticible hard shifting at 40MPH, and 60MPH. Of couse everytime I took it in for it's oli change, etc, I told them this, and they said they never found anything wrong. Well at 50,000 miles I told them to keep it and test it cause I wasn't crazy, there IS a major problem. I had to come back to the dealership and take the service manager for a test drive to PROVE it, and he felt the "clunk" and hesitation at 57mph (if you held it at 47mph 0r 57mph it felt like you were running out of gas!). Well they finally conceeded and replaced the transmission (took them almost 2 weeks), and after I got it back the same hesitation is still going on at almost the same mph as before, although it hasn't slipped or clunked yet, I am a very disappointed customer. I really like the van but I am debating about trading it in.

Could use some styling in the exterior

This is the first Honda product we have owned and we are very happy with the van. It's versatility has come in handy on many occassions. It has handled the New England climate very well. It was the only choice after test driving everything else.
