Removal of center seats highway noise transmitted to interior vibrations Stalling (engine problems) Door locks After reviewing (carreview.com)the issues seem to be the same... "Honda never heard of these problem/s", repeated efforts to have problems corrected, but problem still exists, "The problem is your problem not Honda's" I reviewed many other sites on the internet and found the same nightmares, very few satisfied customers! I realize that this is only one of many sites that disgruntled customers can go to air-out their complaints (Honda will not listen), but with the repeat of the same problems, it would seem that Honda would make an effort to correct these problems and stop insulting the customers who paid for the "Honda quality" with the over priced Qdyssey! The other dealers (Chrysler, Dodge, Chevrolet, etc.) are finding it easier to compete against Honda, they all have the list of problems the (Honda) customers are having as well as some Federal investigations going on about some the Honda Odyssey problems. The problems with my Odyssey: 1. Our first road trip (less than 2000 miles on the engine) I noticed billowing smoke from exhaust. I pulled off the highway only to have the engine fail completly, could not restart... stranded in Illinois for three days. Honda was never sure what was wrong (that's what they told me), but "watch your gauges". Well then the service dept. over filled the engine oil causing engine noise, stopped again to have another (Honda) dealer correct problem (drain engine oil and refill). 2. Engine hesitates (stalls) when attempting to accelerate when stopped or while entering freeways. This problem has often put us in a dangerous situations with on coming traffic or a car almost running into the back of us when we suddenly slow down on the approach ramp on a freeway. (Problem still exist) Honda says "they can find no problem, the computer says there is no problem/s, it must be what you are doing"! 3. Gas pedal sticks, particulary with cold engine, but happens anytime. This makes driving difficult, trying to not run into other vehicles when the throttle breaks loose. Honda says "it is a problem but nothing can be done because of moisture building up inside the throttle area, this causes carbon to build-up..." hence gas peddle sticks. 4. Vibrations everywhere... approaching 60 mph the noise and vibration begin, often times the mirrors vibrating making them difficult to use. Honda dealer and regional rep. said "It's something I'll just have to live with, it's an inherant problem with the Honda". A dealer in Denver discovered a bolt incorrectly installed on the left rear suspension, this improved the severe vibration.(Problem still exists) 5. Engine surges when standing in traffic. I must keep the brake pedal push down firmly to avoid running into the vehical in front of me. It was interesting that when Honda (Corp.) called about this, and other problems, they "said they never heard of this before", but continued to ask questions (which I never discussed) about way the van surged under different conditions? (Problem still exists) 6. The noise of the van often sounds like flying in a commercial airliner with all the wind and highway noise (inherant to the van as I have been told). 7. The the clunking and clicking of the brakes and the transmission going into gear, not expected for the price of the van! 8. When the transmission goes into over-drive (about 45/50 mph) a new growling noise is added to all the other noises. As you can imagine the Honda Odyssey is a symphony of noises, so much so that we gave up using the CD/Radio when on the highway, even when turned up louder, you can't really understand the music or talking. 9. The sliding door/s, especially the drivers side, often fail to open, even though the opposite door will open. It's obvious that I am disappointed with the Odyssey, but I'm extremly disappointed with Honda not willing to fix or admit to the problems, often blaming the customer/s. The noise problems they can do nothing about (poor design) but the other problems are dangerous and have come close to causing accident/s! They (Honda) shows little concern and basically said, "we can do nothing else, don't bother to complain about these problems, they are inherant to the Odyssey! My only choice at this time is to invoke the Lemon Law and wade through the requirements necessary for this, Honda seems little concerned about this, I guess they have been their many times before. If any one has been successful invoking the Lemon Law on Honda I would look forward to hearing from you (jhaberkorn@swfla.rr.com). My thanks to the many other (Honda customers) who took the time here and other places on the Internet to express their opinions about Honda's lack of service and quality, I know I'm not alone with these problems as Honda would like me to believe. recalls, air conditioning, sliding doors, unhelpful service people, high price for unreliable transportation I like the convienence and looks of this van, however, the air conditioner core has gone out twice and there have been 2 recalls, this last one is for a second gear transmission problem. Also the sliding door fails to close about 10% of the time. We have to push on it to make it lock into place. The dealership is less than helpful, always putting the blame for this car's problems squarely on us. Similar Products Used: We have a 1984 honda accord with 150,000+ miles that runs very well. |

Lots of seating. Not too difficult to drive. I like the ability to turn the air off in back or in front separately.
Weakness:
Horrible customer service. Not willing to fix a problem. Expecting us to just live with what could be a potentially dangerous problem. We sure spent a lot of money for this type of service. Up until now I have been very happy with Honda. I owned an Accord and never had a problem. Now that I own an Odyssey, my whole opinion of Honda has done a complete 360. We bought the Odyssey in November. About a month ago the gas gauge starting acting funny. Once you get down to about half a tank, the gas gauge does not read correctly. It fluctuates every time you turn the vehicle off and start it again. I can go from half a tank to empty after only driving my kids to school, a quarter mile away. Then I get in the van and start it up and I am maybe at quarter tank. Then I drop my other daughter off at school and get back in to find the gauge telling me I have a little less than half a tank. I have taken my van in three times now to have the problem fixed. The second time they replaced the fuel sending unit. Today they told me they can't fix it. They told me that it is an inherent problem that can not be fixed. I drive into Los Angeles several times a week with my three year old with me and I feel it would be dangerous to run out of gas, sitting on the side of the freeway. Yet, I can never tell once I am down past half a tank, how much gas I really have. Honda's attitude was basically "oh well." My husband convinced the assistant service manager to try one more phone call tomorrow. I am not sure it will do any good. At this point we may be contacting an attorney. I do not reccomend that anyone buy and Odyssey or any Honda vehicle now. Similar Products Used: Honda Accord |

Weakness:
Vibration/shaking of steering wheel Pause, clunk of transmission Clickety clunk of back brakes Tempermental gas gauge Sloshing of gas in tank- smelling gas from overflow I was in love with my Honda Odyssey- great for my 2 small kids, hubby and I- proud to own it, but now, at 14,000miles, after repeated visits to the service dept for vibration/steering wheel shake at speeds over 50mph- I am heartbroken, and MAD. Characteristic of vehicle, what vibration? Wasted days at the service dept, with no solutions. I personally think they have meetings to come up with new lingo to leave the customer wondering, maybe it's not so bad having the fillings vibrate out of your teeth on the highway... 6 trips in, still no solution. The gas gauge stayed on full during a 212mile trip...unnerving. Then stayed at 1/4tank after a fill up, and a 50 mile trip- reset itself to full the next day.. Service tech told me that I could set the tripometer to figure out how much gas I had left... $30,000.00. That's a lot of money to be treated like this. Start van in garage, put in reverse... pause, then clunk into reverse, SLOSH/BANG goes the gas in the tank, back down driveway, put in drive, pause, clunk into drive, and clink/rattle/bang go the back brakes. Get up on highway, and hold on to the shaking steering wheel and listen to the coke can doing a dance in the cup holder while the car seats bring up the tempo in their wild rattle as your backside becomes numb from the shaking/vibration. And say a prayer when you pass at 72mph, will the tires vibrate off.... $30,000.00 - I could cry, and I am MAD. Any Honda executives/reps feel free to contact me. I want my Odyssey to be like it was in the first 3 months. Help me please. Similar Products Used: Dodge grand caravan |

Weakness:
Poor gas mileage Purchased used 2 months ago and have been very satisfied with the van. Was willing to buy new domestic or Mazda MPV but finally chose the used Honda. Knew about transmission issues but warranty was extended and was satisfied if anything happened Honda would stand behind a failure. Our first minivan and notice the nice ride and view for all passengers. The kids in back have their own reading lights and A/C vents. Folding 3rd row seat is an excellent idea and was among the characteristics we liked most. The van came with remote locks and CD player and 6 speakers. The remote locks are very convenient with an armload of kids and/or groceries. It is hard on gas, though what vehicle at that weight isn't. Traction Control, Electronic Brake Distribution, heated mirrors and rear A/C are features that are standard on the LX and found it would have cost extra on other makes we were looking at. Still haven't taken a long trip with it but so far the van drives well and are another happy Honda owner. Similar Products Used: Subarus |

-reliable, unlike American made vehicles unfortunately. -good acceleration and passing ability, wish my Corolla had the same. -great looks, better looking than other brands. -alot of leg room, more than my Corolla. -comfortable powered leather seats, wish I had them in my Corolla. -radio & cruise control on steering wheel spoiled me, wish my Corolla had that. -keyless entry, in powered sliding doors too.
Weakness:
-extremely poor location for power plug at floor level. -poor quality radio and speakers. -annoying automatic door locks, sliding doors and back door wont open until unlocked. -very delayed temperature adjusting when turning the dial. -no protective guard around vcr on floor to prevent damage when hauling big dogs or cargo. -no arm rest on front doors. We're very pleased with this van, best car buying experience I ever had. It has 47k miles and its reliable, we only had to replace the front brakes and battery. |

Door stick....transmission faulty I personally want the world to know how I have suffered with my Honda. I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey and I have just had my transmission replaced in my Odyssey for the 4th time. Each time it has happened I have had to fight with Honda. And now, Honda has refused to pay for my rental. I am out of pocket over $400 for the rental I had to get while waiting for my new transmission. They leave you to feel as those it is your responsibility. It would have been nice for Honda to own up to their own problems they are having with their transmissions and offer me some sort of customer satisfaction by at the very least paying for my rental. When you buy a new car you expect that it will at least run a little while without a problem. And you definitely don’t expect the transmission to go out in a year. Honda should look at the big picture….if I am happy with my car I will tell other people. And in the first year before this happened I had referred 3 people to buy a Honda Odyssey, which I now regret. My story now however has changed. I tell everyone I know not to deal with Honda. And that stems from how Honda has dealt with me. At this point, my only option is to get the word out. I had made signs and placed them in my window to let everyone know that I pass…DO NOT BUY A HONDA. This is the least I can do to try and prevent others from going through the pain that I have. I am going to make it my personal mission to use all my resources including the news media to get the word out. Because I now drive in fear…every time the car jerks a little I think it is happening again. Some might say why don’t you sell it. Why? Because knowing what I know about this car….I would not be able to live with myself passing on such a problem to someone else. Honda should take this defected car back. That would be a big step in the right direction for Honda to do the right thing! |

Weakness:
The DVD option sucks...you need remote to fast forward. How can you search the remote when you are driving particularly during times when you don't want your kids watch a inappropriate scenes. The hot air is NOT coming in the vent on top of the middle row. So people sitting in the middle row seats complain about being cold. I called the dealer and they say that is how they Honda designed. I believe Honda failed here. You don't pay 30K for this silly mistake they made in the design. They should recall the vans to FIX this. This is a major mistake in my opinion. You don't want your kids to stay cold when you are driving. Similar Products Used: The dealer mentioned that this is not so in other vans. |

Weakness:
sound system poor- early problems with brakes wearing out, sliding doors froze up-not operable-set selling price - no negotiation- I have 81,000 miles -mostly highway. I love the Odyssey but have had some problems with the sliding rear doors . In November the passenger side door quit working altogether automatically and can't even be opened manually. The Service rep had it checked out and I was told the door motor had seized up and would have to be replaced-to the tune of 800-900 dollars. His month the 2nd qutomatic door did the same thing. I haven't been back to the dealership yet but cannot now use either door. I asked if the motors could be disconnected to become manual but the dealership wasn't wiling to take that responsibility since they weren't sure how it would effect the rest of the systems?
