Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

47,000 miles.. 2002 EX-L and now we're having transmission problems.. Taking this to a dealer tomorrow am. The dealer says on the phone, dont get nervous till we tell you to get nervous.. Needless to say, I'm already nervous because I know in my heart, that its the same problem everyone else has had about these cars. If it does come back confirmed it is the transmission, this thing is leaving us immediately and cutting my losses while I can.. Update tomorrow.

Weakness:

Poor company and poor transmission.

The transmission and the Honda company both treated me poorly. The transmission died with 93,000 miles and Honda would not honor it's warranty to fix if the car had less than 100,000 miles. I am left with a very bad feeling about Honda after forking out $2700 to fix their poorly designed transmission. Their excuse for not paying to fix...my car was a "grey market vehicle". In other words I went to a US Honda dealer who sold me a Canadian model Odyssey (they were sold out of US models). Both Honda of Canada and the US agree the vehicle needs to be fixed, but Honda of US will not pay to fix a Canadian vehicle. No warning from the dealership. I don't trust Honda.

Weakness:

See review...to many repairs for such a young car

Beware, our Odyssey only has 42,000 miles and we had to replace the alternator. Besides the alternator, we have had to replace a couple other parts in the 2 1/2 years that we have owned the car. We purchased it for dependabilty but I do not think Honda is living up to thier reputation at least not in our case

Strength:

- Engine Power - Space and seating comfort - Reasonable economy. - Dealer has been helpful and effective in fixing problems.

Weakness:

- Transmission? (Oiling recall work performed) - Road noise

I must say this is one of the best vehicles I've owned. My wife and I travel often with friends and family members. The Odyssey has performed extremely well in all kinds of weather. Although pleased overall, there are some things that are annoying: - The clicking brakes (disk pads shift when braking rearward and first time forward) were annoying until the harmless cause was explained. Still annoying because other vehicles with 4 wheel discs don't do this. - The power outlet is mounted to low to the floor and does not remain energized with ignition turned off. This would be handy for charging cell phones while vehicle is parked. - Road noise is louder than we expected. - Engine surge when decelerating that feels like brakes have been applied (40-50mph) - Dealer said the '03s have had a problem with EGR valves and replaced it. The problem was lessened significantly but is beginning to return (another bad valve?). Overall experience with dealer has been excellent. Sales associate was very helpful and we negotiated a reasonable price because there are two dealers in immediate area. Our Odyssey is equipped with a towing package and has pulled our boat just fine. Dealer installed it but failed to correctly tighten crush washer in oil line to radiator resulting in a minor leak. This was corrected immediately when discovered a couple of weeks later because oil was dripping on garage floor.

Strength:

Engine performance is excellent. From performance point of view, I believe, Honda Odyssey is the best minivan in North American Market.

Weakness:

2004 Honda Odyssey that is manufactured in Canada has bad interior finish. Plastic air vents have got rough edges that could cut any child's fingers easily.

I financed a new 2004 Odyssey about two weeks ago, after being inspired by the ownership of similar vehicles with my friends. I traded-in my 2001 Mazda MPV-ES against the new purchase. Becoming an owner of 2004 EX-L was overwhelming my spirits. I hurriedly and anxiously waited for the delivery. The following day after delivery – under the bright sunlight – I noticed few things against the workmanship of the said vehicle. The dashboard plastic is crookedly manufactured. All plastic moldings for the plastic parts were not properly checked before installation. I felt disappointed and took Odyssey to my friend’s place for comparison with his 2003 Odyssey. There was no relevance of the same issues that I noticed in my new one. My previous MPV-ES was manufactured in Japan – and I believe Japanese are almost perfect in their workmanship. They do not let any un-intentional errors pass over to the customers. I was used to of the elegance & perfection. This appearance of Odyssey came to me as a shock. I felt like I was ripped-off of the trade. I thought initially that I would feel pride and satisfaction for owning this piece of equipment. I have got three kids that will ride in this minivan and my biggest concern is that they will get themselves hurt or cut by the crooked plastic edges in different passenger locations.

Weakness:

Road noise, breaking noise problem at first brake after backup, no roof rack and CD player on LX model

My Odyssey also has braking noise problem. Every morning after backing up the van, change gear to drive forward, and apply first brake, there is a loud clicking noise, which really bothersome. I took the car to the dealer and the techinician said it is normal, Honda knows it and nothing they can do. Previously, I had two Honda Accord and loved them, that is why I decided to go with Odyssey this time, but this one is disappointed.

RIGHT POWER SLIDING DOOR RATTLES THAT IS IT

We have had our Honda for two month and we absolutely love it. We have had domestic and foreign cars and by far the forein ones have been so much better. I can't say enough good things about the Odyssey. I would recommend it to anyone. We got a super good lease deal on it. We are going on vacation in a few weeks and can't wait to take it. I can't believe some of the things people post about this van. I have heard nothing but great things about this van until reading the ones on this site. The typical problem I saw in most of the other reviews had to do more with the dealership than with the van itself. No I do not work for Honda as some of the reviews have mentioned this trend. Yes I do know that cars do break down and have problems but overall MOST Hondas are great cars, way better than domestic. We love our DVD systems, my two year old loves it. We love everything about the van. Some people can be soooooo petty about things. The only little problem we have had is our right power sliding door rattles a little but I blame the dealership and their service department. We have had it in for service for this problem twice already and it still makes noise so I am going to take it to another dealership. Other than that I LOVE my Odyssey!!!!! Just test drive it and you will see what I mean

Strength:

Plenty of room and great engine.

Weakness:

Everything but the room and the engine.

My first import and the worst ownership experience of my life. Transmission failure. Overheating failure. Power sliders failed. Dashboard lights go out when headlights are lit. Will not stay aligned thus eats through tires like butter. Do not even try to brake at highway speed. Rides like an Amish buggy. Audio system quality from the 70's. We bought this vehicle based on the Honda "reputation for quality". The only thing we have found is that it is a downright scary vehicle to drive. I thought I was the only one but it is apparent that this vehicle is not safe on the road. (just read this column and Autopedia!) It's ironic that I have a Honda harmony lawnmower that has been through 3 carbuerators and absolutely refuses to start before its pulled 30-40 times. And just for the American bashers out there, we also have a 98 Intrepid ES that has been absolutely flawless, even at 80K miles. Honda has had two chances with me and failed both times miserably. The word is starting to get out, just look at the plummeting Odyssey resale values and all that Odyssey invetory on the Honda lots.

recalls, honda service

The van has 26,000 miles and is working fine. I have had a lot of problems with the honda service. After driving nothing but hondas for 15 years I was finally mad enough to buy another make after the bell honda service dept refused to test drive my 91 civic to fix the transmission and told me they must do $1550 worth of work first. My 02 oddy is the last honda I will ever own. It still works, no problems with the sliding doors unless some "helpful" person tries to speed force them to close faster than the moter closes them. No vibrations or gas gauge problems. I wish the new siennas were out when I went to buy the oddy, however I did manage to buy the van through a broker so I didn't need to deal with the arrogant honda sales people. My wife and I are thinking about trading the honda in for a new toyota because the new toys have better crash test results than the honda. We decieded to keep the honda for now because we are getting it serviced at a vw dealership, they want our business, unlike any honda dealerships. As long as the van is safe we will keep it, but dealing with honda just isnt worth the effort.
