Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

Honda Odyssey Minivans | Wagons

DESCRIPTION

The Honda Odyssey minivan lives up to Honda's reputation for refinement, convenient features and great fit and finish.

The Odyssey is available in four trims: LX, EX, EX-L and Touring. All trims use a 3.5-liter V6 engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The EX-L and Touring trims carry the most recent version of Honda's variable cylinder management system (VCM), which allows the V6 engine to switch among three, four, and six cylinders to increase fuel efficiency. The interior features a third-row Magic Seat that folds into the floor. Maximum seating capacity for the Odyssey is eight passengers. Safety features such as side-impact and curtain airbags, four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system are standard on all models. Luxury features such as leather trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, navigation and entertainment systems are available.

The Odyssey carries-on for 2010 with minimal changes

Strength:

Ride is very smooth, love the fold-away back seats

Weakness:

Gas milage stinks, middle row seats are hard to manuever, driver seat not very comfortable

I bought the Oddessy because of its reputation and supposedly good gas milage 20/28. I spoke in depth with my salesperson about gas milage. I am gettin 15mpg on the highway. I have heard every excuse in the book from the dealership.

Smooth, lots of power, lots of room.

Weakness:

Poor Transmissions

We loved our Honda Odyssey until the transmission started having problems at 57K miles. The malfunction lite came on and we took it to a honda dealer and found out it had a failed torque converter code and that the only fix is a new transmission at $4000 installed. I purchased a Honda for its reputation on long life but I guess that is not true since there appears to be many others having the same problem. See the other reviews. At the same time we had our problem a transmission shop told me there was onother Odyssey in for the same problem.

Strength:

good power, quality, handling, safety and is almost like a near luxury car.

Weakness:

Slow power doors, radio is too small.

Great Van. Smooth V6 engine. Cargo space is good on this van, I can load 5 full-size luggages with all the seats folded. The folding third row seat saves me a lot of time and energy. This is the most luxurious and useful car I've ever owned. Good seats, love the power driver seat except I wished that the passenger seat has it too. Good bervage holders. No problems. If this one breaks down, I'd get another Odyssey.

Everything except the transmission. Power doors on both are great! Front and rear heat/AC. DVD/CD player is a MUST for families.

Weakness:

Transmission (see above)

Up until now, we've had nothing but praise to say about our Odyssey. The transmission just went, at exactly 50,000 miles. Warrantee covers up to 45,000. I've told Honda Service that it's been acting funny, but "the computer" didn't agree. Just last Monday I brought it in because it was making so much noise and jerky movements that all passengers could finally feel it. Still, Honda service technicians could not feel it in their test drive nor did the computer record any strange events. That is, until 2 days later. All of a sudden, it got very bad. My family and I barely made it home from Loews (normally about 30 min away). It was virtually un-drivable before the lights came on and the computer noticed it. Finally, they agree with me and will fix it. Luckily we bought the extended warrantee. I've has a loaner car for 4 days now (including the weekend). When I called the service department this morning to inquire about my status, they were not positive if the transmission had arrived yet, but did admit they were very backlogged because they had 3 other Odyssey's last week that needed transmission replacements and three more (including mine) this week. NOT A GOOD SIGN.

Experienced exact problems as several other posters. 2002 Odyssey transmission failure. 4th time in the shop - transmision doesn't shift properly, slips, rpm's shoot up - TCS, Engine Malfunction lights turn on. lst 2 times in the shop - could not duplicate symptoms; 2nd time - diagnosis was incorrect gear ratio - charged me over $200 - picked up the car - still not fixed - now back in shop - need new transmission and it's out of warranty. I have a call in to Honda customer service to see what they will do - because of course I'm not going to pay for it!

handling, roominess, controls access & readability

Weakness:

none so far

Wow! After driving a Taurus, a 2000 and a 2003 Caravan, all I can say is what a diffference. This drives like a luxury sedan in many respects. I love the power windows all around, especially the rear ones. The control panels took a little getting used to because there are so many features to control from the driver's seat. My children love the DVD/CD player, especially when I want to listen to my own music when I drive. They just pop on the headphones and listen to their own station. This saves me a lot of money on Walkman batteries! The handling is much like that of a sedan, I do not feel like I am driving a bus. We did have to get used to the automatic doors, a little patience is necessary but it makes it very convenient when you are on one side of the vehicle and the open door is on the other. Also, be sure the van is in park and the doors unlocked or the car buzzes annoyingly. The anti-theft system is a must simply for opening and closing the doors in a timely fashion. Honda's have a nice little beep to tell you it is armed and ready. I highly recommend the leather seats with the heating system in them. I never had them before and they are great! Another nice Honda safety feature is the audio volume and station control on the steering wheel. The kids don't try to reach and change it because they know I am in control. The rear fold away into the floor is so much more convenient than having to go home, get a helper to unload the back seat, etc. etc. I have a feeling I will be driving this van until it won't go anymore. The only problem so far is a flat tire I caused by hitting a curb too hard. The jack worked fine and so did the spare although getting that out of the middle of the van seemed strange. It worked fine though.

Strength:

Size, drivetrain, low rpms at highway speed, fuel economy, passenger comfort. Stability in bad road conditions.

Weakness:

Lack of compass and external thermometer, lack of dual heat/AC controls.

Great vehicle. Just turned 194,000 kms..(120,000 miles). To date only regular maintenance other than replacing oil pan damaged by sppedy lube outfit. Nagging problem has been intermittant freezing of the sliding doors requiring occasional cleaning and lubing of the sliding door seals....performed free by dealers. Has been used for 4 trips to Florida and 4 to British Columbia. We use Blizzak winter tires mounted on steel rims for winter driving. We intend to keep driving it for another 3-4 years or until Odyssey brings out a hybrid. Outfitted with aftermarket mirror with external thermometer and compass.
