Weakness:
driver auto up feature We like the vehicle alot, but it has a safety concern: the driver's side window has an auto-up feature. This feature lets you put up your window with a flick of a switch. The only way to stop it is with the switch. There is no sensor stopping the upward motion and even if you press down on the window it will not stop.

Reliability.
Weakness:
Road noise. Front shocks possibly making a noise. I have owned this vehicle for nearly 3 years now. It has over 40,000 miles on it and I have had no problems at all. The front shocks sometimes seem noisy going over potholes etc and there is a lot of road noise but maybe they have improved on the road noise in recent years. This is definitely a trouble-free van - very reliable. Similar Products Used: Last vehicle was a Ford Expedition |

Strength:
Dependability, dealer friendliness, spaciousness, turning radius, power in mountains, workmanship, and I LOVE IT.
Weakness:
Maybe road noise in 3rd row seats. Otherwise, in love with the Odyssey after 5 years. I don't readily allow my 20 year old children to borrow it or other friends either. I have had a wonderful experience driving my 1999 Honda Odyssey. I bought it from a friend in July, 2001, because of a death in her family. I didn't get to choose the color or accessories I wanted, but have been extremely pleased with everything so far. My Odyssey had everything available including the after-market rearview mirror with direction and outdoor temperature and upgraded 10 cd changer. The leather interior is flawless after moving 3 children to their college apartments and home again. We now have logged in 120,000 miles after returning from Estes Park, Colorado. My Odyssey had been used previously as a salesman's car and had high mileage when we acquired it. At the time of purchase, I couldn't even test drive an Odyssey because they weren't on the lots to drive. I had test driven a Toyota Sienna and owned a Chrysler Dodge Caravan and was a current owner of a 1991 Plymouth Voyager. The paint was peeling from the roof and hood of both Chrysler vehicles. Chrysler wouldn't fix ANYTHING. After purchasing the Odyssey in 2001, we had a complete 30,000 mile scheduled maintenance. (I said it was high mileage when we bought it, actually 40,000.) We went on a 3000 mile vacation with 5 passengers comfortably accommodated with luggage. December, 2003, taken to dealer because auto door didn't completely close correctly. Told $300-$400 to fix. Noticed recall in Goodson email and called Honda headquarters. Honda instructed me to go back to Goodson and it would be fixed even though my car was not within the recall dates. Ignition, dimmer, throttle, and wire harness recalls were also performed at that time. August, 2003, notified by Honda about transmission warranty extension to 100,000 miles or 7 years. I made sure I mentioned the transmission was acting strange so it would be noted in paperwork. Spring, 2006, called Goodson Honda about transmission again and was told to bring it in for a FREE transmission replacement including a FREE loaner van for a week. I was loaned a Chrysler Dodge Caravan. What a different driving experience from my beloved Odyssey. I was excited to get my Odyssey back after the service. The turning radius is great on my van. I can turn around in the middle of the street without touching a curb in my Odyssey. We completed another long vacation to Colorado at Christmas and again this summer to Denver. This van has been to Mt. Rushmore via Chicago from Houston, Park City, Utah, and numerous vacation spots. Never had a problem with this van that wasn't fixed by Honda or Goodson Honda in Houston. I did have a problem with a fuse? at Christmas in Tulsa, Oklahoma one year. The d/c outlet wouldn't work with 3 teenagers trying to use a tv/ipod/dvd player/laptops in the car. College kids and their toys! Honda/Memorial in Tulsa fixed it without an appointment, quickly and with a smile. I will definitely buy another Honda. Well made, gas mileage, Trade in values
Weakness:
None so far. My summary for now is in comparing models. The Honda by far led any other mini-van in quality (and we looked at the others). We had owned a 2004 and were very happy with it, no problems but we had 75,000 miles on it. I looked up the trade in value and decided to trade....Honda resale values are impressive.I was also impressed that Honda has listened and improved the 2006 even more. We are only starting to drive the new Honda but the performsnce easily exceeds Toyota or any American company. Honda knows they have a good product so you will give more but at trade in time you will get that back. Similar Products Used: Honda Odyssey 2004 EX

It has great take-off speed. You can fly up a hill without question even in 3rd or 4th gear. I have NEVER had a car that was this quick. It is so much fun to drive. It corners incredibly, even for a mom of two and makes commuting to work pleasurable! While it takes premium gas only, the mileage is high (over 30) so you don't notice the higher cost of the gas. It is also incredibly comfortable on the interior and has a great sporty exterior. Safety is also very highly rated in this car. It is heavy duty all the way around. Air conditioned glove box is great for sodas. Heated seats are best we've ever had-they get hot fast and I sometimes even forget to turn on the heat. Stereo (we have upgraded one) is powerful and clear. Electric sunroof is great. I don't think I could live without another one after being spoiled. But the best feature other than speed? The feature that allows you to open and close all windows and sunroof with the turn of a key from the exterior of the car. Love it when it is hot outside and you want to quickly roll down the windows before climbing in. Love it also when you forget to roll up the windows or close the sunroof. Trunk is also HUGE. The biggest I have EVER seen in a passenger car. You could easily fit luggage for four in the trunk going on vacation for 2 weeks! Love the flip up key (push of a button) and the storage of the owner's manual in front of the driver. Also enjoy the spaciousness of the rear seats. You have plenty of leg room. Love flip down drink holder in back seat.
Weakness:
Repairs and simple maintenance is expensive. Expect to pay about 50% more. You also need to have it repaired at a Volkswagen dealership as many others are unfamiliar unless you find a good local mechanic. Also it is SO noisy. Everything creaks! And, the handles to lower the back of the passenger sheets is awful to reach-nearly impossible. Trunk space is great but trunk lid weighs a ton and is so hard to lift, especially with anything in your hands. Blue metallic paint looks awesome but shows every scratch. And, black suede like interior is awful to keep clean. Center console holds CD's only and is virtually useless. There is very little storage other than the large glove box. Two is really max in the backseat, which kind of stinks in an pinch. We were initially looking for a Honda but was drawn to this car. The exterior and interior had so much more oomph for our money than the honda. And, the power was pathetic in the Honda, the exact opposite of this car. My younger brother is jeolous of its acceleration. |

The space would have to be the best part of it. Have been complimented highly for the looks and the technology available with the system.
Weakness:
The Pax Run Flat Tire System. They are expensive to repair more expensive the replace and they get about 30,000 miles before they wear out. If you change them out they have no place for a spare tire except in the trunk section. Van is great for family. Ihave a son in a wheelchair and it has been great for the lots of room for his chair to fit in rear without having to break it down. I have the Michelin Pax Run Flat Tire systen on my vehicle. The tires only get about 30,000 miles. If you get a nail in the tires there are limited places that know how repair them with a cost of about $95. to repair and about $300 to replace each tire without wheel and about $600 with the wheel. If you want to take this system off of your vehicle you have to replace all tires and rims as well as carry a spare inside the vehicle as there is no space underneath for a spare. There is also sensors that it is unclear as to whether they can work if you replace the tires with some other system and you will get warning lights in the vehicle that can not be disconnected. Other than that I have gotten decent gas mileage if I watch how I drive and don't gun it when I take off. I also have the Navigation system on the vehicle and it provides information for businesses that have been closed for several years. May need to have some way to update the information in the Navigation. Similar Products Used: Chrysler Town and Country

Really spacious, more than anything else like it on the road. And that fold-down seat ... I thought no big deal, until I started taking advantage of it. I'll never have another van w/o that feature!
Weakness:
Transmission went at 66K -- WAYYYY to early. Too much road noise, stereo is a bit lame. Seats could use much better lateral support. Overall, a pretty good experience until this year when the transmission went out at 66,000 miles. I'm pretty unhappy about that because I paid several thousand more than for the competitor vehicles to avoid JUST THIS PROBLEM. I wanted to buy a very durable car and now feel a bit like a fool. On the other hand, Honda took the initiative about a year ago and extended the tranny warranty to 75,000. So, the repair is free and so is the rental I'm driving. At least they're handling the situation well and seem anxious to restore the car w/o hassle. The car's also having some difficulties with the electronic connectors that lock one of the side doors (I could have predicted this), but otherwise maintenance has been routine. It's very comfortable and spacious, carries my kids and all their friends, gets ok mileage, and has plenty of gitty-up for the mountains around here. (nit picking)i like to rest my elbow on the door panal at the window and in this van that panel is hard plastic and by elbow gets sore on long rides would it kill the bottom cost-to-build line for honda to pad the upper door panel on a near $30000 van lots of storage, great handling and acceleration(of a mini van).Comfortable controls with power seats.i have had gas mileage beyond what i expected, 18-20mpg around town,23-25mpg on highway going 70- 80 mph(cruz control a must to make the most of the cyl. deactivation, i bearly got 20mpg on a roadtrip not using cruz).i was very surprized with the mpg. i know the EPA estimated mpg on new cars is a joke and i believe there rating system will be revamped in the next year or two. AWFUL gas milage!!!!!! Road noise and somewhat rough ride. I too was sold on the Odyssey for the terrific gas milage (20/28) but have been very disappointed. At the very best I get 13 in town and 22 on the interstate. I believe this should be considered false advertising. Other than the gas milage I love everything else about the van. Tons of power, and room to spare. The power doors are very convenient. Great visibility.
Weakness:
Shallow cup holders. Roof vents only work on AC, not heat. So far the van has been great but after reading some of the reviews i am a little worried! the tranny is new so that is a bit of a relief but who knows! the instrument cluster has to be replaced because the tach sits at 2700 rpm any time the car is on, but other than that I am happy with the van. It is quieter than my 93 accord but at 156k it was getting a liitle noisy anyway. Overall I think it is a great van.(So far!!) Similar Products Used: Honda accord sedan, and wagon |
