Strength:

Lots of room, decent gas mileage

Weakness:

Costly repairs for such low miles, wind noise when on the highway, horror stories from friends with same vehicle.

This vehicle was ok until about 39k miles (when the warranty ran out). Only had minor problems. At 39k the Check Engine light came on and that started the problems. First event was $75 for no trouble found, came on again and this time it needed a new intake manifold at about $1000. I complained so loud they comped all but $250 of it. About 8k miles later it would barely run and the Ck Eng light on again, this time an idler valve $250+. 5K miles later light on again, this time it's "middle" intake gasket $500. The dealer acts like this is expected maintenance on a vehicle

I would like to correct the year of the 1993 Windstar below, it was a 1995. So I decided to give it a review as well while I'm at it. It was a horrible experience owning it, and thinking about it brings back bad memories. Being loyal to a car company isn't worth it.

Strength:

At this point it's hard to think of one. We were sold becasue of the high safety rating.

Weakness:

engine light on all the time transmission failure jumping and bucking steering failure light going on and off(1993 and 199) head gasket fuel pump broke leaking oil very poor customer servie wouldn't give a manual for vehicle

This is our second Windstar and what were we thinking??? We thought we should be loyal and look at what we get in return. Driving our 1993 was actually comical with its' dashboard lights appearing and then not appearing and the car door dinging sound going on and off. It was very annoying. We had too many serious problems to list. When we traded it in, they said it would probably be junked and they'll make no profit, but I think I saw another poor soul driving it. Now our 1999 needs a new transmission at 65,000m, we just put in new brakes ($200), new rack and pinion steering ($800), new tires-(2nd time) and the check engine light has been on for about 2 years. Was that a warning for almost 2 years that the transmission was failing!!?? We finally decided that since they said Windstars are known for electrical problems and the experience with the 1993, we ignored it. We are meeting the managers and regional manager at Berge Ford in Mesa, AZ on Friday at 3:30 pm. If any dissatisfied Wimdstar owners want to join us, you are welcome. Has anyone noticed there are fewer and fewer Windstars on the road? Please contact us at our email address.

Roomy, Good on gas, Powerful, comfortable

Weakness:

Price, Intake gasket, Powersteering pump, Whining and shaking in front end, and noone knows anything.

Bought this p.o.s. because of our family. Nice and roomy especially for the kids. We bought it second hand with 89,000kms on it. Now we have replaced front tires twice, needs a lower intake gasket and a power steering pump. Have had nothing but shaking and whining in the front since day one. Took it back and Dan Murphy's said it was my own problem, your warranty is up! Called Ford's Customer help #, If there is no recalls on it they can't help me. I have grown up with fords and all from Dan Murphy's in North Gower, but the way I've been treated, I will never go there again or own another Ford again. I think we will go to by a Chev!! At least you get a better vehicle and service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unreliable! Transmission Speeedometer Electrical malfunctions Poor customer service!

What a hunk of junk. I am going to inform NTSB of all the problems we have had and maybe they will force Ford into some useful recalls! We had a new transmission at 32,00 miles (under warranty) new torque converter and transmission rebuild at 45,000 (our expense) and now at 70,000 the transmision is failing again. The electric rear windows only worked the first year. The HVAC vents in the front of the car work intermitenly and I have driven most winters heating and defogging the front of the car using the rear blower system (works for heat but not for defogging). The speedometer started buzzing at 60,000 miles and on Friday started jumping erratically from actual speed all the way to 120 miles per...thank GOD for the tach! Ford has only ever given us the run around on this vehicle but as it is paid off we are keeping it for now. Will *NEVER* buy a new Ford again!!!

Strength:

Looks beautiful, it fool you

Weakness:

Power windows never worked correct. Motor burned out in back two windows, front windows, sometimes wouldn't open.Vehicle would roll forward when placed in park with brakes on. Shifting from park to drive would cause a loud thump sound, was told that nothing was wrong with transmission. 60,000 miles, fuel pump broke. Check engine light started coming off and on. Took to dealer, couldn't find anything. Engine light continued coming off and on, sensor replaced, still continued.Vehicle would make a horrible noise when a turn was made, sounded like the steering wheel was going to fall off, was told nothing could be found. After warranty, out of pocket cost was over $1,300 in the fast year. 68,000 Transmission went bad. Took to dealer, was told that it appeared that two sensors had went bad and the transmission needed cleaning. Dealer wasn't sure if that was the problem but told me that if that didn't fix it, they would have to investigate more. Cost would be $745.00. Check engine light still on, was told it was engine related, possible bad head, cost $1,300+. Told dealer to keep vehicle, took plates left at dealership. Will never buy another Ford.

Horrible, awful, a bad nightmare

**Front which bumper should I start @ first?! -unreliable -problematic -very expensive on the slightest repairs -very expensive just for preventive maintenances -Ford not good w/customer service AFTER the purchase

A big headache.Have had nothing but problems. Now they are really starting to escalate. @ 40k, he engine light came on.Was told it was fuel pump(replced @$600).Came on again @ 50000, was told it was o2 sensors(replaced@ $300). Now it is back on again, and noone can figure out why?---It has always had a problem with shifting sometimes it goes"bang" when accelerating.--Ford says it is fine/nothing wrong. Have had a new Power Steering pump put on @37000k.--New Rack& Pinion @ 39000k. Electric sliding door has never worked properly(once again, dealer looked @ while under warranty and of course they couldn't find any errors).--Has always had a loud squeaking/whining noise when turning. Ford says everything is fine.---Now @ 75k, having problems starting sometimes and smokes some initially after it finally fires up.--told that o2 sensors are bad again---has 4 which cost $65 ea., and another $100 to have installed!----Where does it end?-It doesn't according to past reviews, just gets worse! I am trading this P-O-S in before I have to replace engine or trans.!!--------I do believe I will stick w/Chevy from now on!--P!$$ on Ford!!!
