Dodge Grand Caravan SXT
Strength:
Versatility and Utility. The 7 yr/70,000 mile powertrain warranty, which will not be offered on any 2006 Daimler/Chrisyler models. Room, comfortable ride, very good side bolsters for driver and front passenger seats, plenty of second seat legroom with its seat all the way forward and front seat all the way back. Rear seat has minimal leg room for adults. "Stow-N-Go" is terrific with a huge "trunk" with the second seats upright (about 12 cubic feet) and comes with cargo nets for the "trunk". A 4X8 sheet of plywood can fit flat between the wheel wells with the front seats moved up only about 2" from its farthest back position.
Weakness:
Light knobs not backlit. Would be nice to have power windows in the slider doors. No light in glove box or under the hood (I think this must be a thing of the past since our '03 Trailblazer LT did not have it either). Read Marine1. That review has it right on! The power liftgate is an option, which I have and my wife really likes, and we also have the optional side curtain airbags. Otherwise, the SXT has all the equipment most people consider "basic". After only 1 1/2 weeks, we have 450 miles on it. We normally log 24,000 - 27,000 miles/yr. If you need plenty of people and cargo room and want a decked-out minivan, this is it. The SXT comes with a 3.8L V-6 engine. Not the most horsepower in class, but more than enough from 0-60 and passing. Rated 25 mpg on highway. Haven't ridden in the mountains yet, but when I do, I will revise this review to let you know. Has 4 speed automatic overdrive, third gear, and Low gear. No second gear, which is strange to me since going through mountains I always use second gear going down hill. Similar Products Used: 1995 Ford Aerostar. |

Strength:
The storage room in this van is unbelievable, especially if you keep the middle seats up. There is enough room to stow just about anything you want and keep your van always looking clean and nice.
Weakness:
Some of the interior plastic looks cheap and added on. Also no pin lights on most of the power switches on the driver's door. It's really a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT,with Stow-N-Go seats. It has as many goodies on it as many high priced luxury cars. It has a smooth ride and is quieter than any previous mini van made by Dodge. It has an 8 way power driver's seat. Power windows and door locks. Two power side doors and a power liftgate. It has a A/M F/M radio with C/D and cassette and 6 speakers with extra controls on the steering wheel. It also come with three way A/C that really does a great job of cooling that big van. It also has an overhead console, that gives outside temp. direction of travel, MPG used and how far you can drive on a tank of gas. If that weren't enough, it also has four wheel disc, antilock brakes and 16" aluminum wheels. Also has remote keyless entry with engine immobilizer, traction control and cruise control. |

Weakness:
parking brakes release handle at an awkward location Prior to the purchase of this Caravan, I had read a great deal of reviews on the web. I did not want to buy any van after the views expressed by other people. After a lot of soul searching, I decided on the Caravan due to price. At CAN$20700 plus taxes, it is just too attractive. I have driven about 1000 miles since delivery. The general impression of this 2005 model is very favourable. The V6 3.3L engine is very quiet and powerful. The ride is firm and comfortable. It is well equipped with pw/pdl/cd/air cond/cruise/anti-theft key etc. I have a 1995 Caravan (since new) which I gave to our son. In comparison, the 2005 has much better ride qualities, more responsive steering and much more QUIET. Granted, I have only a brief usage at the present, but it feels like Dodge has improved the Caravan in a substantive way. I only wish to share my initial impression because I cannot find any review on the 2005 Caravan on the web. There may be people contemplating similar purchase also facing the lack of review. I keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Similar Products Used: 1995 Caraven |

looks nice, roomy, comfortable, good handling
Weakness:
uses more gas then i'm used to, and harder to navigate in tight spots because it's wider, longer, and taller then my last car. this is only the 2nd car i have ever owned, but it is alot better then my old car. i used to drive a camery. the caravan is alot more comfortable and can take shocks from potholes and cracks better, much smoother ride. i bought it in july 2004 and i haven't had any problems with it untill recentlly. recentlly there was a recall on the car by dodge for a clockspring, and the speed sensor failed last week. $25 to buy a replacement, not too bad. the car looks very nice and is well designed with many useful features. Room, flexibility of seats, features, comfort.
Weakness:
Mileage isn't great, but for a vehicle of it's size I can't really say it's a weakness. The vehicle does have some squeeks and tweaks; when you turn the steering wheel during a sharp turn. I'm hoping this is just a glitch that can be fixed, but other reviews indicated it's normal. A bit annoying, but not a detriment to driving if it is in fact normal. I've only been driving my GC for 2 weeks and I love it! I was driving a Chrysler neon before this and had to upgrade due to a growing family. I only paid $20,000 Canadian for it with extended warranty (115,000km/10 years on powertrain AND bumper to bumper). It handles 100 times better than my neon, it's of course much more comfortable and it's a lot nicer. It has all the features I want: plenty of room, cd, air, power locks/windows, lots of seats that can be moved or removed. The gas mileage is of course a fair bit higher than what I'm used to, but it's worth the trade off. If I could squeeze a family of 5 into a chrysler neon, it would be a no-brainer. But I can't, so a minivan is the way to go. It has more room than any SUV I looked at, better gas mileage than a SUV and it cost me half as much! Similar Products Used: 1994 grand caravan. Roomy and comfortable, you will need this for the days it breaks down
Weakness:
This whole van is full of weaknesses, name it and it is. Well, where should I start, my rear wiper goes on and off when if feels the need. Keep getting a smell of antifreeze, mechanic tells me the the radiator leaks from the top. 102,000 and my van will not move, put transmission fluid in and it comes right out. Will be towed to the shop. Ok, drivers side window motor will only bring my window up half way, well tape is holding my window..you can not find a junk yard with these parts, everyone is having the same problems. Drivers side axel needs to be replaced. You know this is the worst decision I have ever made when purchasing an automobile. You would think Chrysler made a deal with transmission shops, and autoparts dealers when they made this one. They got their money so who cares about the people. I have nothing good to say about this company and if any who reads this is thinking about buy any Chrysler product, please do not. Maybe if everyone boycouts this company they will go out of buisness or make good to all those who suffered at their expense and start making more dependable automobiles. |

It suck, It's a lemon! Dodge has the worst service ever. We were so exited when we purchased this vehicle. It's beutiful, but that's as far as it goes! It has been in the repair shops 7 times already and we didn't even make our first payment yet. It has a noise when you turn the steering wheel the rear hatch doesn't close properly and idles extremely hard, I was told this is normal. The dealership duplicated the problem and replaces numerous items on it. But the problem still exist. Now the dealer ship say they can't duplicated the problem. They return my vehicle with oil spill all over the engine, with grease marks on the leather seats and on the side panels and on the steering wheel. I finally contacted a lemon law lawyer. Chryster is buying back my brand new lemon! They better hurry before the transmission goes out, it won't shift down anymore. Similar Products Used: Toyota only, going back to them. |

Dodge Caravan SE (4-cyl turbo)
Strength:
Convenient for hauling people and goods. Handles well. Nice looks. Great air conditioner (until now)_
Weakness:
Fuel regulator started giving trouble after 4 years. Wouldn't recommend a four-cylinder minivan for anyone with kids (not enough power). I have had an overall pleasant experience with my Dodge Caravan. It is a rather unusual one, with a four-cylinder turbo engine. It currently (July 2004) has 180,000 miles on it and the transmission is starting to slip gears. The air conditioner compressor just went out, and the fuel pump died at about 150,000. Replaced shocks and struts at about 160,000 (should have much sooner) and fuel regulator started giving trouble back in 1994. But overall it has served very well and maintenance costs have been infrequent and inexpensive. Dodge Carvan/Plymouth Voyager
I bought this car used for a low price, and was happy with it for almost two years, during which I drove it back and forth between Harrisburg and Chicago at least eight times and shamefully neglected regular maintenence. Now the transmission has gone out, and I'm looking to buy another one. Here is what people considering this car need to know: the 3.0 engine is not worth having. Pass by anything that doesn't have the 3.3 liter engine. Second, many of the available transmissions on these vans are lousy. However, the 3-speed non-overdrive transmission, available with the 3.3 engine after 1995, is supposed to be fairly good. If you want one of these vans (either a Caravan or a Voyager, they're the same), shop around until you find a 3-speed with the 3.3 liter engine. There are lots of these vehicles on the used market, and usually no price differential between the good engines and transmissions and the bad ones, so if you are patient and careful, you can get one of the good ones without paying extra. The van drives well and gets reasonable mileage. Most versions have lots of power extras. The Grand Caravan and Voyager offer substantially more leg room in the back, and, again, many dealers don't differentiate much in price between the smaller and larger versions. *Very* easy to parallel park. If you don't usually transport more than 5 people, consider taking out one of the second row seats to make it easy to move around the cabin (one of my seats has been in my basement since I bought the car). Seats are said to be a little heavy and hard to remove, but I am a 110-pound woman and got one out and down to the basement without much difficulty. If you travel with dogs, you can fit two lab-sized crates in the "Grand" by removing either the middle or rear row of seating, and still have room to get the dogs *in* the crates. If you have three dogs, you'll have to take out all of the back seats (or belt one in the front passenger seat). |
