I cant believe everyone is saying the Dodge Caravan is Crappy. It is an Awesome vehicle. But you know why you think it sucks, because u don''t know how to take good care of the 1999 Dodge Caravan. I am only 12 . I know a Lot and it is My Van. If your engine dies, it could be because you own a 2.6 V4 16 Valve Caravan and you car towing or Driving it like it is an AWD. The 2.6 is not very strong and shouldn''t be used to tow or carry a lot. the 3.0 is better . My aunt has one (it is mine basicly) it is a 1999 Dodge Caravan V6 3.0 (green) and it is AWESOME

Strength:

My disappointment with the craftsmanship of this vehicle overrides any strength it could have had.

Weakness:

Shoddy materials - See review summary. Chrysler will not stand behind their product.

I am extremely disappointed with this automobile. We had the transmission replaced under warranty at 65,000 miles with a ''supposedly'' improved transmission with all the upgrades. In less than 30,000 more miles we have the same problem with the "improved" transmission. The water pump was replaced at approx. 50,000 miles and 40,000 miles later, we have to replace it again. Chrysler will not talk to you without a warranty.

Comfort, handling, safety, an all-around great van!

Weakness:

None so far

We bought this van 1 year old and have just loved it! It has a smooth, quiet ride and the 3.8 engine is very peppy. This van has tons of room when we go on trips and everyone always wants to ride in our vehicle. We have always owned Chrysler mininvans and have always had good luck with them. Our next one is going to have All-wheel drive and maybe that great dvd player for the kids.

Strength:

Room Built in child seats 5 doors (kind of common now) 7 passenger seating without SUV fuel penalty 3.3 engine has good power Transmission is very smooth

Weakness:

Heavy third seat could use more sound proofing* dim headlights* weak front headlights* weak front brakes* (from wear standpoint) * = "improved" on 2001+ models (the heavy third seat can now be ordered two piece)

I have put 50k on my 67k Grand SE, an ex-rental . Overall, it has been excellent value and since the Oddyssey was not yet available when I bought it, there wasn''t really anything to compare it to. I have added aftermarket struts to firm up the ride, and it handles great. The maintenance has been completely reasonable so far. The Honda looks very competitive, and it''s resale value will hold up better, but I prefer my Chrysler product. I believe that 2001 up should be as reliable as any Honda product. At 67k, outside of oil changes, I have had to: 1) reline the front brakes and replace rotors (still cost less than turning and replacing pads on my Honda) 2) replace struts and shocks (the old ones weren''t worn out, so maybe this doesn''t count) 3) replace tires 4) replace wiper blades 5) change the transmission fluid In fairness, I should mention the following: 1) Minor oil leaking from valve cover gaskets 2) Serpentine belt tensioner has been frozen in position for the last 10 months (seems like I would have had a problem by now?)

2001, went from Indiana to Myrtle Beach and service engine soon light came on. Ignition switch check showed 12-43-55. Engine misfire or coil problem so went on and drove rest of way and on way back light went off. At home later on, the service engine light came back on again and I took it back to dealer. They replaced ECM and it has worked all winter and then yesterday coming through a car wash, set and idled for about five minutes and now the service engine light is back on. Made appointment for repair today, but would like to know if anyone knows what is going on with this 3.0 Japanese engine.

Fuel System???

Our Caravan would not start last Sunday so we had it towed to the dealership. They informed us that the gas we were putting in it was bad and that the filter was clogged...... So they were going to have to change the fuel tank, filter,etc.- It''s all under warranty! After one whole week we were told that our van was ready for pickup - they could NOT tell us what gas to put in or what had caused the problem. We went home and two days later, gas came pouring out of the van all over our garage floor! We had to get it towed again back to the dealer and this time - a clamp was defective. I would like to know if anyone else is having problem with the fuel they are putting in? We purchase a medium grade gas at one of the reputable stations in our town and we need to know if the problem lies with Dodge or is it really bad fuel? How could that possibly be, we have a Jeep Cherokee that is 1993 and is still just fine and we fill up at the same gas station.
