No problems! O2 sensor replaced at 95000 km. Brakes replaced at 111000 km. Just regular maintenance items. Oil & filter changed every 3000 miles. No unforeseen repairs. No surprises! Van drives like it has half the actual miles. Engine and transmission work very well. Not very quick from a standing start but has surprisingly good passing power with 3.3 engine. Engine idles very smoothly, revs quickly and sounds quite sporty. My van is 5 years old and runs like New. My neighbour. He just had his tranny changed on his 99 Honda van. Cost him over $4 000 dollars. Parts are not cheap on imports. Similar Products Used: Accord, Taurus |

TRANSMISSION, transmission, TRANSMISSION,intermittant wiper blades, and dealer repaired fuel leak We brought this vehicle new never mind the tricks the dealer did like changing vehicles on us, chashimg our deposit and not having the agreeded vehicle in the lot. I was afaid of buying American even though I am an American and was at the World Trade Center to help, but we can't build cars to last 100,000 miles to save our life.Anyway the vehicle was very dependable at first saving us a lot of money it took us to Florida,North Carolina numerous of times, and helped in transporting materials while rebuilding my bathroom it was great. That's until it hit 71,107miles then the transmission went I couldn't believe it it was never in an accident, and only was 5years old that's unacceptable. I'm used to foreign cars my subaru had 154,000 miles before it even started to act up but still never let me down, but the caravan did and big. I then went to this web site GOD bless and found out that everyone knew but me about the DODGE Transmission problem. So I decided to write on this site to help the next poor soul. transmission I have been very pleased with my Dodge Grand Caravan...until now! I have had the van since 1999 and this spring we were forced to replace (or rebuild) the transmission. Problem...a fractured differential pin blew through the transmission case in 2 places. I was shocked to find out that this is a common problem with these vans! A very expensive problem. Furthermore, I contacted Dodge about it and was told that the van must have been driven hard and that we were out of luck! I am a mother with small children not a stunt driver! I am very disappointed in Dodge and this product. |

Could use more power This is one of the best vans that are made, if you haven't had good luck with one you are a very poor driver. It will still make 120mph when ever you want it to. We tuned it up at 113000 and had the transmission fluid changed also. We replaced the front right caliper - it was a factory problem. We are going to take it for its 2nd tune up and transmission service at 213000. Trans problems are from not using MOPAR trans fluid and not changing it. |

transmission weak brakes timingbelt tensioners break radio *clockspring assembly* Stay away from this problem ridden car. The clockspring assembly which controls the horn, cruise control, and the driver's side airbag is a problem Chrysler refuses to accept responsibility for in spite of accidents with injuries, numerous complaints, and 125,000+ parts replaced as of March, 2001. THIS IS A DANGEROUS VEHICLE - YOU DO NOT WANT TO PUT YOUR FAMILY IN IT. The timing belt tensioners broke just out of warranty - 38,000 Miles, the water pump went right afterward, the transmission went out at 70,000 miles, the radio has been replaced three times.. The clockspring assembly malfunctioned before 72,000 miles. Too many problems. Similar Products Used: Volkswagan Vanagon |

Transmission shift quality is excellent. They did a good job in selecting gear ratios, Looks better than any other minivan on the market, including Honda, which is ugly box on the wheels.
Weakness:
none We have experienced no functional problems in almost 18 months of ownership. The only complaint I can make is a piece of weatherstripping from the front of the sliding doors fell off within a few months of ownership. This resulted in a very slight wind noise increase, but no water leaks as this was a secondary seal. The dealer took care of it promptly, but had to order replacements. Overall Chrysler has done their homework with this vehicle. It's not perfect, but it has been very good. Given that a minivan this is basically a 4200 lb. box, it is styled well and the handling and brakes are quite satisfactory. The 215 HP V6 is quiet and relatively powerful with. The CD+cassette sound system is very good, but all the buttons could be a little more straight forward to use. It takes too much concentration from the road. The power sliding door on the passenger side works well, but is heavy and awkward to close manually. It is a big contrast to the driver side door which doesn't include the power option. In my opinion, the power sliding doors are a gimmick with relatively little practical value. Same for the power rear door. Similar Products Used: Taurus, Nissan Maxima |

Good interior room, for one. I also applaud the Infinity sound system. One can hide a tremendous amount of poor fit and finish by cramming enough bells and whistles into a vehicle. Just crank the stereo to cover creaks, drones, and wind noise.
Weakness:
Value: This vehicle has the potential to be a tremendous drain of money for repairs, and expect the resale to be dismal, due to long-term reliability issues. Initial price is only part of a vehicle's value, and, even that, is poor when the Chrysler is compared against a comparably equiped Honda Odyssey with more interior room, more horse power, and HONDA QUALITY and RESALE. Other weaknesses: Poor dealership service, the driver's side seat, road and wind noise, failing power locks, poor breaks, the infameous Chrysler transmission, and ... Chrysler's incredibly poor quality and concern over customer satisfaction. Please folks, get educated and quit supporting shoddy workmanship and companies that only want to take your money with no concern over you after they have it. Also realize that there is no such thing anymore as a true "American" vehicle. On the basis of parts and labor, the Honda Accord is the most American car on the road. An educated consumer is a potent force against mediocrity. Please realize that all vehicles do NOT have "problems". That is a false statement made by owners of brands of cars that DO all have problems. Value your hard-earned money. People never cease to amaze me. I have traveled overseas, and have come to see how most cultures do not view major purchases requiring considerable drains on their resources as "disposable commodities". I love America, but our disposable culture, and our propensity for putting considerable sums of money into worthless and unreliable things is not our strongest suit. Come on now, folks. I know that most everyone is intelligent enough to read the non-proffit consumer magazines out there and to understand the reviews on long-term performance tests. I also have faith in the fact that most everyone has a basic grasp of statistical probabilities. Furthermore, I trully believe that most of us have an inkling of the concept of value and resale. I believe all this despite the fact that many people act in a contrary way to all this knowledge, and continue to support car companies making products that are utter pieces of garbage. I believe this, despite the fact that many folks seem to take no more time on research and consideration in purchasing a $25,000 vehicle than they do in purchasing a cheeseburger. I realized all the detractions to a Chrysler when I purchased our van. The problem in '97 was that the Honda was too small then (the older model Odyssey was tiny compare to the Grand Caravan), and Toyota had not yet released the Cienna, and their van was just beyond my budget. So, I took a risk. All-in-all, I have been lucky, though the quality of the Chrysler has been far beneath that of the Japanese vehicles I have owned. I expected that based on the poorer fit-and-finish, and attention to detail that is the hallmark of American auto-makers. Our Dodge Grand Caravan Sport has provided us with over 120,000 miles of service, so I shan't knock it totally. It is a good vehicle to transport a family in. Of course, it has also given us transmission leak problems, break problems, steering problems, a rear window that actually shattered in high winds, sheet metal on the sliding doors that will crumple like paper with the slightest application of pressure, and a driver's seat that is the equivalent of a medieval torture device for tall drivers, such as myself. All-in-all, though, I have not been out $3000 for a new transmission or engine, as I suspect many proud Caravan owners have, so I have been fortunate. Such is the nature of probabilites. Similar Products Used: I have test driven Honda Odysseys and Toyota Ciennas. According to Consumer Reports, and feedback from buyers, these are both infinitely more reliable and valued vehicles, and are far better choices. |

Everything mechanicle and electrical. And paint. This vehicle is a piece of crud. From day one we had problems. We bought the vehicle and went on vacation (in winter) the thermostat went out and we had no heat. Replaced it then the o2 sensor went out. Both within 60 days of buying vehicle. Passenger front and sliding door locks broke, window cracked. Within first year replaced tension assembly and serpentine belt. Also replaced rotors and brakes. At 17 months and 79 k miles had to replace all 12 lifters in engine. Then within a week of getting vehicle back had service engine light come on. Now we need to replace leak detection pump and a hose. Also had to have a tune-up because vehicle was cutting out. Now am afraid the transmission is going. The lights when driving dim and brighten all by themselves. Also within a couple months owning vehicle the paint has peeled off on hood and started to on the sides of the vehicle. Transmission problems now of course! Brakes are shot also, front and rear. Tires not looking the greatest either. My transmission went 2 days ago, and I have not had it for a year yet! I have been reading all of these other stories with the same similarities of how mine started. I'm thinking about getting an extended warranty now because of this problem. I don't want it to happen every 2 years or so. Similar Products Used: 1999 Chevy Malibu, Ford Explorer |
