Strength:
The interior is nicely laid out and attractive. It handles well.
Weakness:
Obviously, the transmission is a major problem as well as the electrical system. We've owned this car for four years and the transmission has needed repairing and finally replacing three times in its life. The first two times were under warranty, but the third time was not. We were planning a major trip with it this summer but our local dealer advised us after having the transmission serviced that if the problem we were experiencing with the transmission wasn't any better than it was only going to get worse. Sure enough about 20 driving hours after he called the transmission went for the third time. We were not impressed. Thankfully we had decided to fly to Toronto, or we would have been flying down the 401 when it died. Also our windshield wipers don't work and we can't find the problem so my husband has rewired it so that we have our own switch to turn them off and on. The power window on the driver side went in 2001, but once again my husband managed to rig something up, but the passenger side is now not working. The back hatch lock also needed repairs and the backup light hasn't worked since we got it. Finally, the brake light comes on all the time and there is nothing wrong with the brakes at all. Another electrical problem we guess. Similar Products Used: This is our first minivan. When we buy again it won't be Dodge unless they reimburse me for the third transmission repair. We wish we could afford a Honda or Toyota. |

none Car came with a very good standard of equipment as standard.Nothing broke, nothing fell off.Great value family van! Performance is excellent, with the engine being brilliant. The engine is smooth, refined, torquey, while still also being willing to rev high. |

Strength:
Alot of room. Decent gas mileage on highway. Good coffee in Dodge waiting room.
Weakness:
Between 1 and 10 with 10 being the best, I would give quality a 2. Bought the basic model with 4 cyl engine. Needed new evaporator at 20,000. New head gasket at 30,000. Misc Brake problems and noises. Transmission slipping at 40,000. If you buy a Dodge get a good price and an extended warranty. Just bought 2 Japanese cars with no problems. Tired of dealing with American car dealers. Similar Products Used: Can't think of anything similar that I paid alot of money for that falls apart so much. |

Strength:
Economy, useablily, comfort and safety. Love the quad seats!
Weakness:
Got to fix that transmission problem I think this is a great vehicle, this is my second one. Owned a 1995 from brand new and love the versitility of these vehicles. I use mine like a pickup, but with better gas milage. Very comfortable and easy for people to get in and out of, wether they are my grandparents with elderly problems or friends with back problems. So far knock on wood no major problems with it, have 20,000 plus miles and hope to have it for the next 5 years or so. Gave the 95 to my daughter when she turned 16, she totaled it, but walked away without a scratch! Did have to replace the tranny in the 95 a couple of times, but it was covered by the extended warranty, a must have with these vehiles until Chrysler can fix the problem. But no vehicle is perfect. Strength:
Room. Options. That can be found on another make/model though.
Weakness:
Electrical problems with power door. No wonder their warranty is so good, you need it. I'll NEVER buy another Dodge again. This van is brand new and we've had it in the shop several times due to a faulty power sliding door. They can't get it fixed. The whole point of buying something new is reliability. Not for Dodge. Save yourself some trouble and buy something else. I'm thinking about trading it already. Good luck. |

All I can say is that it is roomy.
Weakness:
TOTAL NIGHTMARE! Many visits to dealership for tranny, brakes, a/c & heat. Bought brand new. 4 cylinder. Now 42,000 miles. It is leaking tranny fluid profusely. The a/c has been giving trouble since 3,000 & now is in need of a compressor (expensive)! The master cylinder spout is leaking also. Similar Products Used: nissan quest - loved it! Strength:
Nice layout, comfy with a bit of luxury car feel. Very good power and reliability with the 3.3 litre engine, decent ride and handling and there is are lots of storage space. After adding Bosch platinum +4 plugs, Niehoff wires and K&N air filter we were getting almost 30 miles per Cdn gallon (25 mpg US gallon) in the summer. Mileage is down 20% this year, I suspect a bad O2 sensor that will be replaced soon. Added Reflex struts and shocks, if I could do it over I would only change the shocks as the struts feel a bit jittery compared to the OEM.
Weakness:
Needed a tranny rebuild at 105,000 km only four months after having Chrysler do a tranny flush and fill, then the rebuild had a problem within a week. Since then (Sept/01) we've had no further problems. Also, the dreaded serpentine pulley seized but other than that things have been pretty good over 2 1/2 years and 45,000 km that includes a lot of city driving. We've owned our Caravan since Mar/01, 71,600 km and it is a compromise no doubt about it. You have to go in with your eyes open and be ready to accept a few problems, but on the other side of the coin the van can be quite rewarding. We've had the same issues as others, i.e. replace the serpentine belt and pulley at 86,000 km, tranny rebuild at 105,000 km. But, we were able to get Chrysler to pay 1/2 of the tranny repair and overall we've had good service and reliability. One note about the a/c. It is very important to try and cycle it (turn it on) for at least 5 minutes, once a week, even in the middle of winter (don't worry it doesn't blow cold below 40 degrees F). This extends the life of the compressor by keeping everything lubricated. Also, for those with a squeaky belt a little vaseline on the top and bottom does a great job at getting rid of the problem for several months. Similar Products Used: '79 Chevy Malibu 305 V8 engine (wish I had a brand new one right now) '83 Mercury Lynx - repair prone yet never really left me stuck '89 Chevy Beretta - first 180,000 km were a dream, the next 120,0 |
