Roomy, seating is great, front and rear air and heat is great. CD player and second row passenger stereo is great for the grandkids.

Weakness:

Intake gasket problems, transmission problems, fuel pump problems. All major problems, and major $$$$

Bought our van brand new, and was wonderful until the warranty ran out...and we didn't get the extended! Too bad, would have saved us thousands of $$. Looks like the intake gasket problem and the transmission problem is the biggest one going. I know that we have put over $1500 into this van in 1 month, and just got it back fron the shop with the second fuel pump failure...at $500 a whack. We are having transmission problems now, no one seems to be able to find the problem, but of course the local Chevy dealer wants to just replae the whole thing for $3600. Not no..but HELL no..no more dealerships for us. We are still trying to get someone to find out the problem with the tranny. We like to be able to go on vacation, but not taking this van away from home until I feel comfortable with it again. Seems to me that GM knows about all these problems, but chooses to ignore them. I have written them, e-mailed them, called them..and all I get is no warranty..your problem. Well guess what GM..this will be our last purchase, and we have had nothing but GM products before. Makes me sick the amount of money and time we have had to put out for this vehicle. It's going soon, and we will look to the 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty on the vans. As much as I hate to, we will have to leave the American made trade for the other ones. GM has left us no choice. And all they need to do is stand behind their product. And be up front and fair when they know they have these problems.

Strength:

Very smooth ride, good gas mileage, very spacious, easy to handle, good visibility.

Weakness:

Obvious intake manifold problems, just look it up on the internet! Transmission clunking is very bothersome. CD player went out quickly.

Loved this van until recently. Intake manifold replaced at 46,000 miles & 10 months out of warranty. Was told by service manager that it is a common problem and should probably plan to be back for the same repair in another 40,000 miles. He showed me the defective part and claimed it was poor design. Called Chevrolet, they prefer to discuss via email (I guess that way they don't have to actually face up to anything!). Was told via email basically "too bad." Very standard, canned responses to most of my emails. Next step is to notify BBB Missouri as well as petition online to get recall. I was glad to see another reviewer had "clunking" problems with their transmission, as I am now having those problems also. Very discouraging. I've spent more on this van in 2 years than in the last 9 on my Dodge Caravan. I initally bought the Venture because I love the space and smooth ride. The CD player also went belly up just after warranty was out. We drive this van less than 15,000 miles a year. Shouldn't have these kinds of major problems.

Beginning at about 13,500 miles, my automatic transmission has, on and off, clunked very loudly upon each acceleration shift. My dealer has at this point told me "at least you've got time left on your warranty." The clunking is pronounced enough to feel like I've hit a pot hole, yes I live in Minnesota, yet I have not, it's the transmission. My local service station has told me to "demand a transmission replacement before I'm left sitting on the side of the road." I have not yet had any engine lights come on. There are no TSB's at this time.

gas mileage great, nice ride, spacious good eng performance

Weakness:

intake manifold leaks can cause engine problems, electronic issues with gauges and wiring, wiper compartment holds snow and ice

Strongly suggest that you read all the postings on this vehicle before you decide on buying one. It has many issues which I wish I would have known before I purchased this vehicle. Here is a list of problems/issues I had thus far. Intake manifold leak (Common problem with 3.4L and other engine types. Petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/GMcnsmrs/petition-sign.html to get recalled) Cruise control wires, tail light harness corosion due to salt, all gauges not working still not sure what the problem is with that yet?(maybe ignition) automatic sliding door has some issues like not closing when cold, wiper cavity not very well designed as it keeps snow and ice traped(have to open hood to clear ice and snow build up. real pain...) Extended warranty a must for this vehicle.

The venture is a cheap piece of crap (not in price) that requires constant trips to the dealer. I cannot begin to list the problems that we have had with the Venture! The top problem was a complete transmission failure at 12000, 18000, 33000, and 53000 miles. I've had the vehicle in the shop four times in 53,000 miles for transmission failure, not slipping FAILURE! The first failure happened at 12000 miles while my wife was returning from LA to Tucson. It blew up in desert of Blythe, AZ the middle of nowhere. That was Saturday night so she had to wait until Tuesday and stay at a hotel with four little kids while it was repaired. The second time happened at 18000 miles while we were driving from Tucson to Phoenix to the airport. It blew up with a loud band that had me checking my feet to see if I still had toes. I had my oldest son pick up my wife and kids and get them to the airport while I sat on the side of the freeway in Casa Grande, AZ in July (I now know what hell is like.) Oh, you think this is the end of this story? The third transmission failure occurred at 33000, are you seeing a pattern here? So here, we are at 53000 miles and guess what the transmission went again! It is also noisy on freeway and obviously manufactured with no quality control. For that matter, I think Chevy used an etch-a-sketch to design it. The doors rattle, the heat has no temperature between hot and cold, the air conditioner is useless in Tucson, and the passenger electric sliding door would not open electrically, only manually. The door was repaired, but broke again two more times. I now have a problem with the driver’s side manual sliding door. That door will not close. The power steering has had problems from day one. It whines and sticks when turning, but Chevy won’t fix it because it is not a reliability problem! The brake pedal would shake and the whole van would shudder when getting off a freeway exit. Turns out the rotors were warped from the heat of braking, this at 42000 miles, this is not NASCAR, how do the rotors warp from heat? I replaced the rotors and fixed issue for now. Oh and to add insult to injury, it eats tires like they were made out of wood, in fact I have had them replaced for free from my tire dealer because of the warranty on them. He can’t understand how 80000-mile tires wear out at 20000 miles. What offends me the most about this van is that I wanted to buy an American car. My next vehicle will be a Mitsubishi Montero, as soon as the rolling money pit is out of the shop I am going to trade it in! I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, not even people I don’t like. GM and Chevy know this is a piece of crap and continue to sell them. They should go to jail for pushing this garbage on the public.

Strength:

Good on gas, comfortable seats, lots of interior space, rides and drives nice, good safety rating.

Weakness:

Brakes, noisy on the highway, weak transmission, no recall on the manifold gasket problem.

Our van currently has under 30,000 miles on it and I would say the Venture Van is an okay vehicle but I wouldn't highly recommend it. The van is noisy on the highway, the rear brakes still squeak (a rear brake needed to be repaired for a leak) and it rolls back on the up hill when in gear. The heater/air conditioner control unit needed to be replace before it was a year old. The intake manifold gasket had to be replaced at three years which cost $1500 Cdn, I was fortunate to have the extended warranty. The guy beside me paying his bill for repairs for the same problem on his Venture van didn't have the warranty and was not to happy. The technician at GM said this is a common problem with the engine, I'm surprised GM hasn't done a recall to fix it (are you reading this GM?). Also worth mentioning is that all the lights flicker when the van is idling, the engine occassionaly has difficulty starting and the parts seemed expensive. The last two problems I'll get GM to look at when I take the van in for its next servicing and while the extended warranty is still valid!

Cheap interior, brakes, Parts expensive, will not hold up, looses value too quick.

Where to Start? I know I live in South Georgia . A/C died 3 months old. Lucky it was under warranty but 6 days in the shop waiting on parts. Inside very cheaply made too much plastic. 6 months old back of driver and F passenger seats came apart. Another trip to dealer for repair. Repair lasted 3 weeks. I must say our dealer loaned a car every time we had warranty work done. Now van is 3 years old and is leaking water. Looks like it is leaking from around the intake.URRRRRGH. Several problems from the TPS sensor. This was causing the transmisson to shift hard. GM part was cheap made. I bought an aftermarket Bosch brand and have yet to have anymore trouble (1.5 years). I own a toyota Camry and have owned several Chevy/Geo products. This is by far the worst one we have owned. My wife wants a new van I think we will seek or local Toyota dealer for the new Sienna.

amazing van...best we've had, no problems on it what so ever.....I mean, we have gone down to mexico 3 times, and she's done exceptionally well. Able to keep up with them fast cars on Mexico's AUTOPISTAS, with 5 passengers, without breaking a sweat... the automatic door works really well too, no problems ever, but it does get dirty (the little lever) but as long as u clean it, it works perfectly. so i dunnno what ya'll ppl are talking about, the venture has ample power, and convenient features, kudos to CHEVY!!!

the vehicle has only stranded me once in 5 years. Seems to run and drive well as compared to the other mini vans I've driven.

Weakness:

Poor transmission, brakes, and overall quality. Dealer doesn't seem to know product well. Very expensive to repair for anything!

After 5 years and 120K miles I'm actually quite disappointed in the Ventures quality. At 53K miles the tranny failed ($2400 repair) and I have replaced the front brakes 4 times as the vehicle is seriously underbraked and on So. Cal freeways brakes are very important. I recently spent $1200 on the cooling system as the aluminum intake manifold was leaking coolant. I now have to spend more to replace the front wheel bearings as they are howling loudly. Two of the seat belts have also failed, as have numerous switches and trim items.
