Purchased on 1/30/07 with 93,331, took the van home and notice a puddle of coolant on pass side. The next day we had power failure and vehicle would not start; it was parked in the garage all night. The interior and exterior lights flashed and the van made a clicking sound when I tried to start it. Called the dealer and was told that it was due to the extreme cold tempters outside; I have a 1988 diesel suburban with 500,000 miles that sat outside in -12 weather and started fine. The owner Scott Wierslma called me and gave me the same BS about the cold weather hard/no start, he then asked me what I wanted him to do. I told him I needed a rental car that would hold my family of 7 and the van repaired as it should have been prior being sold to me. I also explained that the state of Illinois has a 30 day buyer’s remorse law. We took the van to the dealer and were given a Buick Century as a rental; far from the 7 passenger vehicle like I had asked for. The Customer Service manager threw the keys at us and made remark about the how he hoped that the vehicle would start. We stood outside in the cold strapping in our car seat and gathering our belongings. I called the deal the next day and was told by a different service manager that that the van is awaiting an inspection. He stated that they smelled coolant and that it is most likely the intake gasket; I would assume it has been inspected prior to the sale to me however I guess that this is not the case. The service man also made a comment about payment for the repair; I explained the law to him and was told that the owner Scott would make the final decision. Other than the rude service manager and mechanical issues the 4 days we have had the van we love it. The DVD player is great it keeps the kids occupied so we can have a conversation with out yelling and the power door is great for letting the kids in and out. I guess it is in the dealer’s hands at this point we will have to see if the owner Scott Wierslma is going to stand behind his product or not.

Model Reviewed: Chev Venture Warner Bros.

Strength:

Entertainment centre, load levelling, dual power sliding doors, 8 passenger seating (three across the middle) and the leather seats.

Weakness:

Soft shock, the van likes to roll in the corners (just backing out of the driveway the van rolls around a lot) but even the new GM vans do that!
Very weak ventilation system in the front. Fan on setting of 4 and barely any air moving around.

A great van for our family. We needed the ability to seat our three kids in the middle row which would leave lots of space in the rear for "stuff". We wanted to dress the vehicle up a bit so the Warner Bros edition came loaded with the entertainment centre, dual power sliding doors (a gem of a feature), the load levelling (I love that) and rear heating/cooling and leather seats.
We push our towing capacity over the 3500lb limit with the trailer and van loaded, but this things pulls like a dream, even through some of the mountains we've been through.
We bought it off lease, pd cash and never looked back. Repairs have been minimal.

Strength:

Plenty of room, endurance, good gas mileage, relaible, reliable, reliable.

Weakness:

Mine does not have the 2nd. sliding door.
Problems with the rear handle, have to mess with sometimes.

This is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I have taken it from Ohio to the East coast several times. My husband currently uses it as a delivery vehicle and we use it for family transportation. I have 4 children, so you know it has taken a beating. I have had only minor problems with it, which is expected with any vehicle. The driver window button sensor went bad and had to be replaced. Also the glove compartment latch. Glove compartment latch repaired under warranty and window problem under $200. Other than that just regular maintenance. I would buy another Venture, no doubt about it. Plenty of room. Only downside is no rear heat or air and lately the blower for the air has been very weak. Needs to be repaired. Hvae owned it for 3 1/2 years. It will be paid off in 7 more months!

Strength:

If I keep putting money into it, it runs (most of the time). At least a couple thousand a year, though, on top of the monthly payments & routine maintenance (oil changes, fluids, etc.).

Weakness:

See above.

Hate this car. Bought with 30000 miles on it, plus extended warranty (which never actually covered any of the many problems). Replaced front & rear brakes & rotors. Fuel sensor is shot (if less than half a tank, gauge flies all over the place)--our car people (not the dealer) said to let it go until the fuel pump dies to save an extra expense, and just fill more frequently. Engine light is constantly coming on & off--no good reason. Electrical doesn't work right. Compass never correct, temp gauge says there's ice on an 80 degree day. If the temp falls below 35, all sorts of stuff goes wrong. The power passenger rear door won't close effectively--takes at least 3 or 4 tries (and usually turning off the power feature and manually doing it), wiper blades get stuck in the up position, rear wiper motor randomly stops (we've replaced it every year for 4 years--broken again within weeks, but the dealer claims it must be the motor). A/C blower had to be fixed, cd player broke 3 years ago (still have cassette), water in headlights, transmission leaks, had to replace multiple belts & spark plugs & some kind of arm bushing (don't know what it is, but it cost a couple hundred dollars including labor). Minor annoyances: seat belt covers, air blowers regularly come out of place, rust issues, metal labels on trunk have fallen off, handle to pull trunk closed has broken 4 times, metal brackets that hold seats into vehicle bend (hence need hammer to put seats back in car securely). Sadly, I could go on, but writing about it just makes it more depressing that I can't afford to get rid of this piece of crap yet, so I'll stop.

Strength:

DVD entertainment system, power sliding doors, no mechanical problems at all. Very nice ride, no rattles.

Well worth every penny I paid. It had a $32,000 sticker, but so much in rebates, we only paid about $26,000. I'd do it over again in a second.

Weakness:

Problems with power window, broken glove compartment latch, contacts on power sliding door get dirty and need cleaned, or door thinks something is in the way and won't close

I love my Venture. We sprung for the Warner Brothers, which has dual power slide doors, leather and a DVD entertainment system. We've had no mechanical problems at all. We replaced the brakes recently, but at 4 1/2 years and 60,000, that's typical. The only problems we've had with it were a bad power window motor and the glove compartment latch just broke. It broke in the new car where we were considering trading it in on something new. I wonder if its trying to tell us something. With less than a year to pay it off, its a great van and it'll be hard to part with. I've NEVER kept a car until it was paid off.

Weakness:

Flickering headlights since new.
Coolant use 1pt per 10k miles since new.
Rear brakes need don't auto adjust

This is my 2nd Venture. 1st one was leased was returned with 36k miles. Only trouble with that we had was a bad window motor. The current one has 82k miles on it and had had no repairs other than a pair of rear shocks that blew @ 60k because I used to hang 300lb motorcycles on a hitch carrier while driving over dirt roads. The only other faults I can find is the rear brakes that need to be adjusted manualy every 10k miles and difficulty filling the gas tank from time to time.

The paint still shines and the interioe shows very little wear. I expect to keep it for 5 more years and 65k more miles.

My brother in law has the Honda and I like to Chevy much better due to far better handling and interior. The Honda has a better motor though. Costs more too.

My next car will be GM for sure!

Body , Mechanics , GM ( no wonder they are having issuies )

Where do I start, we bought used with about 48k on it, after the first year, Rear wiper, air conditioning, tail light leak, brakes and wheel hub all needed to be fixed and or replaced. Most covered under the $1500 extened warranty. Then about six months later the Head gasket went, again covered under warranty. Then I just took it in for the inspection, less the 20k after all of the above first visit. Front brakes AGAIM ?? 71 dollars for pads, some thing about a slide pin that locked up ... I have done brakes before and I have always but never seize on them, but I am not a dealer mechanic ( thye didnt use so now it is my problem and 1 hour of labor ) Need less to say I will never buy a CHEVY again. Over the Last year alone there have been over 4k put in this Van, and I am told I am lucky that I got the extended warranty .. Warranties are like insureance you dont want to use it.. But if I didnt have it, it would be in the scrap yard, beacause thats all it is good for.

comfortable and roomy for large family

Weakness:

If pulled too far out, our cupholder will fall off.
Glove compartment latch broke

Maybe I'm "jinxing" myself, but we have loved our Venture. We've driven it hard, (it now has 85k miles on it), we live on dirt roads and have no rattle problems, and we've put $ out for only basic maint. like front brakes, tires, oil changes, etc. I searched for several months before deciding what minivan to buy. We wanted a Honda or Toyota, but we couldn't afford the price, and I think we made a great choice. I've never been a Chevy fan and can't promise that I'll buy another one - hopefully I won't have to worry about it for awhile!
