What's New for 2010
The 2010 Volkswagen Passat receives VW's DSG dual-clutch automated manual transmission in place of the old conventional automatic. It also gets a new multifunction steering wheel, a new radio, standard Bluetooth connectivity and optional 18-inch wheels.

On the road, the 2010 Passat hits the perfect blend of reassuring handling, a supple ride, and absolute composure at above-legal cruising speeds. The interior is arguably the nicest in this class, boasting high-quality materials and a classy look. Another feature is the available wagon version, a welcome alternative to the oversize SUV.

The front-wheel-drive 2010 Volkswagen Passat is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is VW's responsive DSG, a six-speed, dual-clutch automated manual.

Fuel economy is quite good given the Passat's peppy performance. EPA estimates stand at 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined.

The 2010 Volkswagen Passat is available as a midsize sedan or wagon. Both body styles come in Komfort trim only. Standard equipment on the sedan includes 17-inch alloy wheels, heated windshield washer nozzles, foglights, a sunroof, air-conditioning, a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, leatherette vinyl upholstery, a power driver seat, heated front seats, Bluetooth and an eight-speaker sound system with an in-dash six-CD changer, an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio.

Options include 18-inch alloy wheels, a variety of exterior appearance packages (sedan only), an iPod adapter (replaces the standard aux jack) and a hard-drive-based touchscreen navigation system with a USB port, an iPod interface and 20GB available for digital music storage.

Strength:

consumption, quietness at higher speeds, finishing, size.

Weakness:

where does the boot end and the wall start?

Drove an A4 TDI for a year (40k miles) and now bought my own Passat 1.8T and love it! It''s roomier, smoother, and more comfortable than the Audi. The blue dash needs getting used to but now it''s very nice indeed. Sports seats are excellent, cruise is smooth (better than BMW), consumption low.

Strength:

Solid, good Handling. Good fuel economy. Confort.

Weakness:

Power seats would have been nice.

I have owned the Passat for 13 months and have 41000 miles on it. It has been absolutely trouble free. I compared Acura 3.2 CL, Camray, Altima, Maxima Accord, Prelude, and others before purchase. This car is the finest handling of any I tested. It is a pleasure to drive and plenty peppy with the automatic and 170hp 1.8T. I really thought about a BMW or AUDI, but couldn''t justify the proce difference. I am now looking for a used 2001 1/2 with a standard transmission, to put the chip and exaust customer upgrades and boost the hp to around 225 or so for some real fun.

Strength:

Great handling, a driver''s car with a strong, smooth engine and stability at speed. Great seats. Fronts are comfortable for any distance and rear has great leg room for two, but tight at the hips for three. Decent gas milage, 23-24 in city commuting, or 28-29 on highway.

Weakness:

Bad traction on snowy roads with stock tires.

The 1995 was never appreciated as it should be. It has a very roomy rear seat with loads of leg room, extraordinary comfort in the front seats, plenty of trunk space, and terrific handling. The V6 is smooth and powerful, and when matched to the manual, produces good acceleration and decent milage. This machine loves to cruise and makes any driving trip more enjoyable with its very comfortable seats and great handling. In over six years, ours has been totally dependable. Only the pathetic cup holder has broken (twice and we gave up on it) and everything else has been great. Summer driving and handling are excellent with the stock setup, but winter driving needs snow tires to get decent traction.

Strength:

Performance, equipment level, quality of materials and construction. The feel and look of the interior is better than the C-Class Mercedes I looked at, and was second only to the Audi A4.

Weakness:

Could use a stiffer, more sporting suspension.

A great car with lots of luxury features. The dollar value is about the best in its class, which includes the Maxima, Camry, Accord, Altima, A4, etc. The standard safety equipment can''t be beat. The 1.8 turbo and 5-speed manual is a very entertaining combination.

Strength:

cheap, quick, comfortable, good gas mileage, feature rich, sticky seats, the cup holders are great!

Weakness:

wierd instrument lights. needs stiffer shocks. static shock exiting the vehicle in winter.

Not too expensive, and its easy to live with. The engine makes just enough noise to be pleasant, its pretty quick (we have the 1.8T) yet sips the gas, hadling is good on smooth roads, but lame on rough ones (needs stiffer shocks). The more I drive this car, the more I like it.

Strength:

handling, interior comfort, one touch sunroof is great, so is the monsoon sound and exterior styling.Oh almost forgot the full size spare with matching wheel.

Weakness:

I wish the tires had been wider to improve handling and overall aestethics. Also accelaration is not that great with the 1.8 Turbo 4 unless your manually shifting via the Triptronic transmission. And of course, the cupholders. But really who cares about the cupholders when the rest of the vehicle is such a pleasure to drive?

Purchased for what I believe was a decent price, when I purchased the vehicle the right rear speaker was fried and it displayed a slight hesitation when taking off from a full stop.Returned to dealer and they changed speaker without any problem. they also adjusted the the computer which resolved the hesitation problem. So far I am very pleased with the vihicle althought a little leary after reading some of the previous reviews, but the vehicle seems solid so far,on a recent trip i had''nt even noticed I had climbed to over 100 M.P.H had my wife not pointed it out I probably would have gone up to 120.

Strength:

Competent handling for a family sedan. Good legroom and headroom front and back. Great gas mileage with the 4 turbo / manual (getting about 30 mpg combined). Comfy, supportive seats. Great safety record. Classy, timeless looks.

Weakness:

Nitpicks: Could use a sport suspension package (offered in Europe, not US). Base model has wimpy tires for a sport sedan. Electronics not as reliable as Japanese. Interior door trim pieces tend to separate over time. VW dealership service not up to standards of other Euro competitors. Rear seat tight for 3.

Very nice car at a great price. 9/10ths of a BMW 528 for half the price (unless you buy Beemers for the status). Over 50,000 miles so far. Plan to keep it for ten years unless reliability becomes a problem.

Weakness:

bagage opener (rear) failed, due to lose cabel. It is a flaw

The Passat is a great car, with the new modell all standards were raised. Liability is good and fuel cons. for a 150 bhp. is nice. When you drive it its very good, esp. at dark (even the fan lights are red!!). Standard ESP and curtain airbags are the best.

Strength:

Looks great! When we first moved to Nashville from Cincy, some man came up to me in a parking lot and said how he loved how my car looked and he wanted one. We get compliments on it everywhere we go, mainly b/c they are fairly uncommon around here, and they do look great. We may be trading it in for a minivan (oh, the horror!), as we are expecting # 3, but my 4 year old DOES NOT want to get rid of the ''white car''.

Weakness:

The interior light on the temperature controls have burned out. The speaker on the driver''s side has blown out. I also HATE-HATE-HATE the key! We have 2 keys, and have dropped them both to where they have separated, so the key is on one side, and the lock/trunk button is still on the key ring. I have lost one key part and have yet to find it, so I am using the service key.(superglue DOES NOT work!)As for the service, it was great in Cincinnati, but it is terrible here in Nashville. Maybe b/c there is only one dealer in the area, but their communication sucks and being a woman doesn''t help either.(my husband has had no problems when he has gone in for the service). I probably wouldn''t buy another anytime soon, but I do wish the vans had a nicer body, like the Passat, as we need a bigger car.

Bought 5 speed, 4 cylinder Passat in Jan. of 2000. It is our family car, 2 toddlers under age 4. Love it so far, but few small problems. Have put on lots of highway miles, up to 47,000 currently, and still running great. I''m a little worried after reading some of the horror stories, but most seem to be on the V6 model.

So far, I love the car. That''s why I bought it.

Weakness:

Have noticed that on a steep inclune, the ABS breaks kick.

I have only owned my car for less than a month, and from reading these reviews, I am very concerned. The overal review of the car is good, but in reading each one, it is clear that only the poeple who have owned the car for less than one year are truley happy with the car. Almost everyone who has had it over a year has had some sort of problem. I am PRAYING that the 2300 changes made to my 2002 model include serious changes to the reliability.
