Strength:

highways and sunny days runs so amazingly good even though its from mexico! ^_^ definatley worth what i paid for it

Weakness:

Ive never tried to go to a vw dealership and from what i have read you shouldnt either. Expensive parts. White is hard to keep clean. The guy that did my top...DO NOT GO TO THE TOP SHOP IN FAYETTEVILLE NC because that mf is horrible. Kept my car for THREE WEEKS for a 2-3 day job. Then gave me my car back with the rear window seals all hanging off and not sealed on in any way. He disgusts me. I didnt even take it back to him to make him fix my seals because i was afraid hed keep it another month. that a$$ >=(

Well i've owned the car for about a year and some change, and I like it. I've read some really horrible reviews, wow. More bad than good. As for me, I absolutley love my car even though its from Mexico and not Germany! Ive had my share of problems. Nothing too serious I guess. I got a fuel pump replaced for $600ish, and put on a canvas top (screw vinyl) for $900. My strangest problem was when my starter was going out. All ive got to say on that one is wow. during this period when i couldnt figure out what the heck was wrong with it, the blower for the vents didnt work, the headlights didnt work, the abs didnt work, the cruise didnt work, and the horn didnt work. UNLESS you turned AND HELD (how exhausting) the key a little bit farther than its normal resting position after the car was started. What else...yeah i have the cracking leather seats too. I dont have anything to say about my sound system because I ripped out the factory and put in one of my own and any problems I have with that is my business. I wish i had gotten that 6 cd changer though! The 5 speed is freakin fun man, It gives the car pretty good power and acceleration to suprise your friends with. Ive read about this running funny in the rain business, and I cant say ive noticed anything strange. Some of those stories were funny. Yet sad =( Oh yeah, and the stupid window wont go down. Havent looked into it yet but i hope its not that $500 motor ive read about. Yeah, and ive got the vinyl peeling down from the window seal thing.

Weakness:

Volkswagen is a bad, bad , bad purchase. stay away. all mentioned above. Even Ford/KIA/hyundai/suuzki/ Dodge rental cars are better than a VW

AVOID VW at all costs!!! Volkswagen is the WORST CAR i have ever driven. This car has been a pain in the rear since i made the awful purchase decision. The car has only 2 year/ 24K miles warranty because all major problems crop up in the 3rd year. The VW service is worst of all. I almost landed up in an accident because the seat broke and slid back while I was driving the car on a freeway. The door handle leather has peeled off after two replacements. The dashboard 1s broken, the doors don’t open properly The Power windows and security have broken down twice. Engine light comes on every two months, a good way to milk the customers because only authorized VW service an repair it. In All its not a safe vehicle to drive.

GREAT in the snow, so important this winter, great audio system, love the 6 cd changer, tape player and radio, all work and sound great!, like new inside and almost like new outside, very easy to use manual convertible top, meneuvers well in traffic, easy to fit in small parking spots, roomy inside, including back seats, for a small car, it's just plain cute!!!

Weakness:

Would be nice if the front cupholders were more useable size, but it's not hard to reach the one for the backseat passengers behind the console.

Wow, looks like we need another positive review. I love my Cabrio...purchased it with over 100,000 miles, and it was in spotless condition, was a rental car. When you buy a used car at a good price, you have to figure some things will need repair...I replaced the Muffler, Mieneckie so I'll have the lifetime warrantee, and the battery, picked up "cheap" and Walmart. There was a crack in something that made it not run when it was wet when I first purchased it, had that repaired. After getting all the "bugs" out, it's been great!

Weakness:

runs funny when it rains

I've seen many bad reviews for the cabrio, and I had to put this in. I have always wanted a cabrio and finally bought one over a year ago. I bought it used with 85K miles. I've put on new breaks, coil, top, and a couple of other small things and am ready to replace the muffler. I use this car to commute 100 miles a day and I love it!! This car whips in and out of traffic like no other. And it's small enough to fit in little spots. I've done the 3K mile oil changes and yearly tuneups. With that said--this car is worth every dollar I have put into it. I have had a VW specialist do all repairs and maintenance.

Was my dream car, and looks cute!

Weakness:

My summary says enough!

Biggest PIECE ever owned!! I don't even know where to start. But I will try--- - Something with the key ignition went bad $1100 after 8 months, not under warranty! -heated seats never hooked up. -doesn't shift well, especially in rain or snow. -the blower doesn't turn off causing battery to die. -check engine light comes on about every month and doesn't go off til fixed. -Driver side door will randomly not open -factory cd player got jammed -new spark plugs at $90 you would think they would be gold for that! - paint chipping on door handles -lighter & power outlet randomly won't work. - wheel barring went bad and had to be fixed twice...my tire almost fell off!!! - speedometer broke - windows drip bad when raining. - turn signals will randomly not work. -coolant leaked with a hole. -the whole muffler system was rotted all the way out said it was from salt damage, but you think they should last longer than 1 yr for $350 a pop!---fixed TWICE in 2 years!!! - I go to the mechanic about every 2 to 3 months to find something else is wrong, it's all in another language to me, I've had so many engine problems I don't know what they are all called! This car has been driven gently, too. - Put about $6,000 into repairs on this car and now this is my final visit to the shop- I'm selling it! I have no clue who would want to buy this piece of JUNK! - SOUNDS LIKE A BIG COMPUTER MESS!! -Did anyone else notice vw has the lowest overall ratings...not looking good!! Maybe they should recall the whole car!

The car is very cute and comfy. Very fun to drive, especially in the summer with the top down.

Weakness:

Where do I even begin??? I thought the engine fire was the worst of my problems..oh no! I have had the car a little over a year and here is what has gone wrong/been replaced: -New top: $650 -Window Motor: $500 -Clutch: $650 -Ignition: $500 -Brakes: TWICE @ $300 -Timing belt: $120 Miscellaneous things that I don't even remember the cost of: tires, new spark plugs (all the time), belts, peeling leather along interior door, cracked leather seats, car sometimes doesn't work in the rain, alarm system and automatic doors only work when they want to- causing some embarassing moments when I literally had to break into my car, something misfiring, alternator, etc, etc, etc. I had a major engine fire for no apparent reason and (thank God!)my insurance covered $3200 worth of damage-along with the $300 deductable that I had to pay *and these are only the things that I can think of off the top of my head!!!!

A complete nightmare from day one. This is my first and last VW. This car has been nothing but problems- extremely high maintainence. I am very good to my cars, very easy on them and always keeping up with maintainence. However, this car is an exception. Unless you have nothing but time and money to waste, I do NOT recommend purchasing a VW.

loud on freeway, LOT of maintenance required, NOT reliable

This car basically gave nothing but problems. I put online 3000 miles on the car in under a year and we've already put over $3000 into maintenance. Within months, both the driver and passenger window motors broke, the battery had to be replaced and something had to be fixed (sorry, i dont remember what it was specifically) or the mechanic said it wouldn't pass smog!! this was only a 3 year old car with 38,000 miles on it!! definately not worth it.

Driving with the top down.

Weakness:

All of the above, plus I can't get AM on my radio, the passenger side window doesn't always go down, the turn signals sometimes works, the floor leaks, VW dealerships are awful, the car has no pick up, when I first start my car there is a strong odor of gas for the first 20 minutes and then goes away, loud

This is the worst car I have ever had. I had problems with it before I even picked it up. The dealership power washed the engine and the car shorted out. Had to wait 2 days for it to dry out. A month after I picked it uo, drove through a puddle and it died. Had to have it towed to and let dry out before it would start. Then the check engine light came on. Took it back to the dealership and they had to replace the distributor cap and cadilitic convertor. Also the motor of the back windows needed to be replaced. And the dealership never aligned it like I asked. Over the next year the check engine light came on when it rained. The brake pedal wouldn't always depress when I pushed it. The ABS light came on a couple of times. Recently, I drove it in the rain, the car stopped and the check engine light came on. Brought it in to have it looked at, and it needed a new distributor cap (again), new spark plugs and wires, rotar, air fliter, iginition coil, tie rods, the rear brake shoes were cracked, 4 new tires (because the dealership sold it to me with 4 different tires that all had different treads), and it needed to be aligned (again). Dealership quoted me $1700, which my car probably isn't even worth. Went to local mechanic, and he fixed everything for around $600 - and it turns out I didn't actually need a new tie rod, VW was trying to screw me. Then on my way home today (I had everything fixed 2 days ago), I tried to downshift and the piece of crap car wouldn't let me put it in gear. I had to pull over and stop, shift into 1st, drive 4 feet and pull over again, wait a minute, force it into 1st, drive another 4 feet and then pull over again.

Strength:

I have had so many problems with this car I can't remember why I bought it.

Weakness:

Poor design, poor quality. Horrible dealer service. They will try to cheat you. Very expensive to get fix. Poor gas mileage for such a small engine with anemic performance.

Car is a mechanical nightmare. Check engine light comes on constantly, which gives the dealer an excuse to blame any part for failure. (One time they said it needed a new master cylinder not realizing they had replaced the it 3 months before! When I reminded them they were embarrassed and called back later and said it was a broken distributor cap!!! Master cylinder to distributor cap?) Everything is very expensive to fix and should not be owned out of the warranty period. The car can't be driven when it rains. Hit a puddle and it dies. Fixed: Power windows, 5 times Master cylinder, 2 times Oxygen sensor, 1 time Spark plug wires, 1 time Distributor cap, 1 time Mysterious engine part replacements: too numerous to mention Dealer service is extremely expensive for everything. The window riser repair cost $527 to repair - $143 more than my Mercedes! Taking it in for an oil change will give the dealer a chance to "suggest" repairing some currently functioning part before failure. This car has been treated gently, can you imagine one that has been treated rough?

Floor Matts. Bells sounds like a French Police Car(Not exactly a weakness...just odd)

This is my first car and I LOVE it! It is a great car and I could recommend it it anyone in the market for an economical convertable. As a teenager, I don't make a ton of money, so the fact that I know that my car won't break down on me is very reassuring. Also, it has great gas milage. Right now the gas prices where I live are at about $2.05 a gallon and I only have to put gas in my car once a week if that. The only complaint that I have for my car are the floor matts which bunched up from breaking after driving a while and that problem was solved with new floor matts. I think a Cabrio is a great first car, second car, any car!
