Strength:

Toyota quality and reliability. Unique. Style, powerful V6, spacious trunk. JBL premium system adequate but not great. Better than most factory systems.

Weakness:

Paint hard to keep clean, maybe cuz mine's dark green. Not as many aftermarket parts since it's still relatively new.

I really enjoy this car. Originally marketed towards baby boomers. I've had this since I was 19 (now 21). No problems other than CD player skipping sometimes (only seemed to happen on burned CD's and on random occassions). Not a true sports car but good blend. Picked this over Celica and Supra because has more interior room. Twin sister has Camry V6. I like the convenience of the 4 door but Solara more rare and unique everywhere I go. Get compliments all the time. Chicks at school always eyeing me when driving. Has sportier suspension than Camry but not enough for me. Upgraded to Eibach lowering springs and Tokico struts for more aggressive handling and stance. Not as many aftermarket performance and appearance upgrades as Camry but still quite a bit. Camry and Solara aren't typical tuner cars which is why I wanna mod it out.

Strength:

Handling, Style, Mileage, Price, I get several compliments a day - nobody sees a car like this.

Weakness:

Aftermarket parts only available from TRD are super expensive.

I love this car. Since the very first time I set my eyes on it to the day of today. Its absolute perfect. Its the import of my dreams - roomy, comfortable, sensible etc. I can even use it as a family car (when i get a family). You see, I am a young buck only at the age of 18.. 17 when I bought the car. I put a stereo in it, neon light kit underneath, inside, tinted windows all around - I know all you Solara fans would love to see it. I get great mileage, handling and I havn't lost a race to any import.

Honda Accord - Toyota Camry. I didn't like the Accord, I don't think they offered a v6 with their coupe 5 spd. Not fast enough for me.

Strength:

Smooth and quiet. Nice interior. More solid than Honda Accord coupe. A LEXUS with a Toyota body. Lots of compliments.

Weakness:

Not as fast as the Accord V6. Suspension not as tight as Honda, but rides much better. Body roll when cornering hard. Crappy mileage. Rear spoiler cheap looking. Needs more interior storage spaces. But, better than anything else I looked at.

First choice was Corvette C5, but impractible and would need a second vehicle for Wis. winters and couldn't afford that(But what a beautiful car). Nissan has a nice V6 but no coupe. May have gotten another Honda, but no styling change of Accord Coupe until 2003. Had a 95 Monte Carlo but new model Monte is still a big sled. Sebring is still Chrysler junk regardless of reviews. Mazda, Ford & Mistubishi have nothing. No other cars of interest unless you go Lexus or European.
Had the dealership put on Gold trim, tinted windows and cargo net which added a few $$$ to the SLE price. Traded in a '98 Accord Coupe V6 w/26,000 mi. Including incentives and rebate worked out to $3500 over Bluebook of Accord trade in price. The difference between two dealerships I went to was $2100!! The final dealership I worked with was super friendly, not at all pushy and had no problem negotiating. I got the car at about $1000 less than what I was trying for, a great deal and time to trade!

Model Reviewed: Solar SEL V6

Strength:

CD player, parts are very easy to have access to, and smooth shifting on the tranny.

Weakness:

NO POWER!......here in Texas insurance is high on imports such as the Camry and Solar cause their claimed to be high risk cars, such as getting stolen, or ran into. Sluge is forming when I change my oil, and I only have 21k miles. Twice the Alternator had to be replaced, and check engine light comes on for no reason, the dealer just resets the codes. Over all iam very unpleased at Toyota for the problems iam having with my Solar, plus the help at the dealer sucks! I have noticed my Solar to make head look to noticed her, but they make fun of it and call it a want to be Sebring....I guess youwould expect that in these part of the country since most people here are so called faithful American who only buy American cars!

Overall, I beileve that this car is a great car but can use some work. For a sport coupe it kind of hard for it to compare with American sport coupes such as the Chrysler Sebring JXi, and the the Pontiac Grand Prix SE. It still a lit slugish on horsepower, but I would suggust that one do their research before bring this WANT TO BE Sebring. That was my mistake, but if I would have looked at the Sebring, I would have saved about 4k dollars and get more car for my money!

2001 Sebring JXi...rented it for the weekend, this car sad to say leaves the Solar way behind. It more powerful, better design, and more eligant!
