Strength:

A solid, reliable car. I got a good deal on this car at just under $20K.

Weakness:

SEAT COMFORT

The funny thing is that I was debating on wether to get a camry or an accord. I opted for the camry, BIG BIG mistake with regards to comfort! I'm not too happy with this stupid car. Although it's reliable and the quality is exceptional, the cloth seats are VERY uncomfortable. This kind of takes the joy out of driving it, especially on longer trips. Like I said I'm am happy about how it drives and the quality. At 20,000 miles, it has never been in the shop except for regular maintence. The thing that I regret the most of not getting the honda accord is that its seats are leather and are much more comfortable and of course its just as reliable as the camry if not more so.

Strength:

Reliable, easy to drive, reliable, good gas milage, reliable, relatively cheap and easy to maintain, and reliable.

Weakness:

If anything- mushier brakes than I'd like.

Great car- rock solid, very reliable, never leaves you stranded. My parents bought this car new in 96- a metallic green coupe w/leather, gold pkg, moon roof- the works. They had it until this winter, when I bought the car from them. It gave them 0 problems total. It starts every time, gets good gas milage, carries a ton of stuff if you need it to, and it looks pretty good doing it all, too. It's not the most exciting car to drive, but it is very comfortable, and very easy to take long distances. I drove it 2,000 miles over the course of 30 hours or so, and didn't get a strained neck or back as other cars have done to me. If you're looking to get one used, the major points to look for are CV boots/joints, water pump/timing belt, and brakes. There aren't any other area's that you have to be concerned with on these cars.

Strength:

Great MPG, very quiet, comfortable seats, better than my celica GT, supra - rest in peace:(, or corolla I've had before. Seems to drive better and better as the miles go up.

Weakness:

The SE stock tires SUCK. SUCK SUCK SUCK. I've been through 6 tires, 5 of which I ruined because I did something dumb. The first one blew out from hitting a curb. THe next 4 I burned a flat spot into stopping too fast down a steep hill (no ABS, damn) and the last I ran over something unseen and got a flat. The tires are VERY soft and wear quickly. They offer little protection from road hazards as well. I got fed up and replaced them with a "harder" set. Clear sailing. You'll never win any races or beauty pagents with a camry, but that's not the point. If you want beauty/performance, buy an american car. I'll wave to you when I pass your broken down car on the highway.

First, I drive 300 miles a day, so if you want to know how what condition your new 2002 camry will be in when you hit 34K miles in a few years(ugh, that's a lot for 6 months...), read this: This car (for the most part) rocks. It's big, VERY quiet, quick (for 4cl), and gets great mileage. I've done nothing to it other than routine maintenance, and I've gotten a solid 32-33 miles per gallon out of the 4 cylendar, stick SE. Only 2 problems I've had that were not caused by the user (ie me being dumb) was some wierd rattle coming from the passenger's side engine compartment. Went away after awhile, sometimes reappears when getting hit by a gust of wind from the passengers side. Also, when it was new, it stalled on 2 occoasions going up very steep hills. My RPM was good (2500-3000), but the engine just cut out and I rolled to a stop. Restarted, the engine light would stay on for a few days, then go off. The Toyota guys don't know the cause, and the computer had no codes in it. Hasn't done it for a long time, don't expect it to again. These cars settle and break in well, and improve with use. I check the dip stick each weekend and you know what, the oil is always honey colored, never black. Toyota quality. Should last forever. My celica has 70K and also shows me clear, honey oil every time.

Sun Roof Makes Noise Between 20 & 45 MPH. We purchased the optional visor to go with this car. At first my wife thought the rear end was coming apart. We were told by the dealer this was normal (The whole car vibrated badly)We told them we was not satisfied with the car. They then put on an older style visor with a piece of weather stripping on it to turn the air up-ward. This helps a lot but does not look good in my opinion. Toyota needs to come up with a fix to this problem. We was put on a list incase a fix is found. (Simple Fix Redesign The Visor)

Dependable car. We had a Camry 5 years before buying this one. Onyone wanting a quality car should consider this one regardless of age.

The sludge thing has always been a design problem. Toyota Motor knew about it all along. However, Toyota of North America (the sales division) had declined to accept their fair share for building inferior quality products. What a shame. According to inside industrial info, there were approximately 60,000 Toyota vehicles, mostly 4Runner, Camry, and Sienna vans that have had this problem. The sludge thing came across the board with both V6 and in line 4 engines. I suggest people who have experienced the sludge should petition to the Consumer Affair department at their resident state to get compensated and to avoid being ripped blind in the future by the greedy top executives at Toyota of North America. Peace!!!!

Strength:

DriveTrain, Styling, Trunk Space, Fuel Ecomony, DEPENDABILITY!!!. Easy to upgrade

Weakness:

Brakes :(, My factory rotors warped easily and were turned numerous times, so I went to the aftermarket and purchased performance ones, problem solved.

I''''''''m a 19 yr old male, and purchased my 1997 Camry about a rear and a half ago. The mileage is rising because I Am a kid and like to drive a lot. This car is amazing 5 yrs old, it''''''''s only had scheduled servicing. I had the car for about 4 months and was involved in a 4 car pile up, my Camry was the second in like, causing a estimated 3k in damages, I drove my vehicle home that that say the other 2 vehicles did not, the vehicle my car was pushed into also drove away. Very great car. Toyota pulls through again

Strength:

The JBL sound sytem with 6-disc CD changer is great. Great handling and plenty of pep (for a 4 cylinder). Very little road noise. Surprisingly good gas mileage, even with lead-foot driving.

Weakness:

I am very disappointed with the quality control of this vehicle. I only had 800 miles on it and I heard a loose part rolling around in the bottom driver''s side door. Not long after a "clicking" sound started coming from the rear window area. (The dealer found a loose panel clip in the door, and re-sealed the rear glass to fix the click.) Now with 2500 miles on it there is a rather loud vibration coming from both the driver''s side and passenger''s side headliner areas when driving on rough pavement. This car has more squeaks and rattles than my Tacoma with 80K miles on it.

The 2002 Camry SE is almost a great car, but I''d suggest waiting until ''03 to see if they get it right (see weaknesses for details). I have owned several Toyotas over the past 15 years and they all have been very reliable with little (if any) repairs needed.
