Toyota Camry
Strength:
Well built good looking car. Engine and transmission are excellent. Paint, body fit and finish is excellent. Good visibility. Excellent heating and defrost. Good on ice and snow. Always starts no matter how cold and gets us where we have to go.
Weakness:
At some point it will wear out. This has been an excellent car in every way. 97000 trouble free miles. A great family and comuter car, great on gas, and because of its quality, cheap on service. If it keeps going the way it's been going I'll likely get another 97000 miles out of it. 4 cylinder fe has plenty of power and is very economical. Quiet riding, smooth handling and peppy enough to pass or get out of the way. Similar Products Used: Volvo 240 DL, Honda Civic, Subaru GL, Toyota Corolla. |

CAMRY
This CAMRY 88 is terrific. It's got 190,000 miles on it and it feels like a new car! I would drive it until it's dead. I've used it for more than 6 years and never had any problems. All I did was changing oil. That's all. I once went to a car graveyard and saw a similar CAMRY 88 with an odometer read 280,000 miles!!! If it didn't have an accident, it would have gone up to 300,000 miles by now! Drive for your lifetime! |

Strength:
JBL Stereo. Quiet engine. Cant think of much else.
Weakness:
Handling (this car is all over the road, with tons of gravity-steer), comfort (none), exterior finish, road noise, excessive body roll, tilt wheel is a joke, So far Ive had this thing in for 4-wheel alignment 4 times and it is still all over the road. It has been out of alignment every time. I am pursueing the lemon law. It is totally unsafe to drive..I have been out of my lane more times on this car than any other vehicle ive ever driven. Riding beside a semi on the freeway is a scary thing cuz you never know if the car will take off in any direction. This thing Gravity-steers like crazy, and when the road is cupped or slanted and you have to hit the brakes hard, the steering wheel will rip right out of your hands. Ive been to 2 different dealers with no help. Also, the seating and ergonomics are just aweful. I thot the seat would soften up in time and ive had this 7 months and its the same. the pedals are too close and the wheel is too far away. Tilt wheel??? It doesnt move more than an inch. Now im beginning to smell coolant when its hot, and ive filled the coolant reservoir 3 times! Similar Products Used: nissan altima, honda accord, nissan maxima |

Camry XLE V6
Strength:
I think 2002 is a good year to buy a Camry. Looks like this year Toyota went back to their quality of the begining of the 1990 models. The Camry sold in Canada is manufactured in Japan. Plus they have added nice features like trunk remote open, trunk escape, driver selectable automatic door lock/unlock and lights on/off, delayed inside and outside lights, fuel consumption and average speed display, filtered air intake, rear user controllable air oulets. Plus, you can drive it for 8 to 10 years with no problems and still get a good price for it.
Weakness:
No real weaknwesses: the leather steering in the 2000 feeled good.I suppose it is too early in the model to get it in my 2002.And my wife misses her electrical passanger seat in the 2000 model (but she agrees that the improvements made to the driver seat are worthed the change). This is my second Camry XLE V6 in 2 years. In june of this year I had an accident and it was too expensive to repair. The insurance bought me a new 2002 model. You can see my review on the 2000 model here (July 17, 2001). First, the Camry is AMAZINGLY well built. I have hit this Chrysler minivan (which was crossing on full red) and I have sent it 15 feet in the air. The crumple zones worked by the book. The front was finished but the engine was not even touched. The bags didn't open and the belt did all the work. I came out in one piece (a bit shaking...). From the windshield and back the car looked like new. This was one of the main reasons to buy a Camry again. I read here about boring looks and other nonsense complaints. The reality is built quality is hidden from view and I believe it saved my life. As for the new car, I have only 5000 miles on it. The engine is just starting to open. Same power train. But this where the similarity ends. The 2002 model's finish is far superior to the 2000 model. No rattle.Less road noise. It is a different car. Feels more on the Lexus side. Better driver seat. Better road handling. Great interior design.Cd doesn't jump on bumps. The breaks were redesigned and it feels. Lots of investment in comfort and utility design. Strength:
Durability, dependability, never did anything to the a/c, still works fine.
Weakness:
gears grind going in/out of 3rd, but no big deal. body metal is weak, should be rustproofed regularly. 5 speed standard, 4 cyl, air conditioning, pwr windows, steering, brakes. Not overly luxurious, or overly powerful, but good enough for the last 14 years. I hardly put any money in this car, and the last years it showed (rust), but I don't care, it starts every time, even in the dead of Northern Ontario winter. Unfortunately, the body goes long before the engine. the speed/odometer quit on me at 154,000 km ~3 years ago, it would've cost over $300 to fix, not worth it, I just went by the tachometer. The mileage is still excellent, another reason to drive her till she's dead. Unfortunately, the bottom is so rusted, there's hardly a floor/unibody frame left, so now I have to look for something else. Will likely be another Toyota, but this one's year was above average, so I doubt I'll do as good. |

Strength:
1.quality feel all around compare to car cost 2X . 2. ride quality ,excellent (like a luxury car with floating feeling). 3. quiet ride (improved with sound upgrading & deadening )better than car cost 2X . 4.6mo driving logged 30000+ miles no problem so far. 5. very response & smooth V4 engine smoother & quieter than my MBZ& Honda . 6. price very reasonable .(shame to those car comp car cost 2-3X more than this car . 7. Good car crash test record & reliablity . 8. loved the styling (look much better than 2003 Honda)
Weakness:
missing a different luxury name plate. I've never been a fan of till the test drive the 2002camry is a completely different story. This car is large(larger than my MBZ eclass), dense, well-crafted. It's quiet with a soft ride like a luxury vehicle. The appointments in the XLE make it feel like a luxury car. I drive 6hrs every week to & from SF LA each way without any back pain, my back/hips were not killing me..like my MBZeclass ...the commute is a different experience in this vehicle. I wanted a decent car with a good reliability for daily commute with high gas milage New model styling, attractive, ergonomic interior, quiet ride, powerful drive, responsive engine. It doesn't feel like a 4 cylinder car and I'm getting great milage (30MPG).....nice sound system with a little upgrade it sounds better than my MBZeclass & lot less for maintainance Similar Products Used: Honda98,MBZ97(eclass),MBZ94(sclass) Alvalon02 (my wife) |
