Strength:
Power, great handling, good ergonomics. 4 door practicality. My friend all want one after riding with me :)
Weakness:
In heavy snow, snow will cake up in the wheel-wells feeling like a flat tire. I had to knock it out after driving 50miles in 10inch deep wet snow. I love this car. Fast, fun, and Practical. I live in northern-Illinois and have just had a 10in snowfall. The car handles great in both the snow and the rain. The stock tires drive through large drifts and snow patches like they dont even exist. I look forward to more snow driving with this vehicle. Purchased for $300 over invoice at this dealer! WRX Wagon
Strength:
Best performance car for the money, hands down. Like to actually DRIVE a car? This is the car for you. It is not expensive to run, comfortable for long drives, and the sheer joy of driving it keeps you alert and happy. Need a roomy station wagon for a trip to the store? This is it. (However, best tie down those bags of groceries for the trip home)
Weakness:
Well ok, one gripe. Its boring to set the cruise control on the highway. So take the back roads! Look, it is NOT a luxury car or a pseudo perfomance car, its in a class by itself. You can get cars with leather, moonroofs, etc, so if that is what you want, look elsewhere. A marevelous car, the longer I own it, the more I learn of its capabilities. Has more than enough ''luxury'' items, the upgraded stereo is good enough, etc etc...but...it is the DRIVING that makes it worth it. To get the most out of this car, you have to actually DRIVE it...can''t just step on the gas and cruise. The driving is the joy of it. And I have yet to tire of the thrill of out-accelerating virtually every other car off the line. I just love to let someone start out, get a car length or two ahead, then, ZOOM, leave them behind. I can just see them saying, "What was that? a little 4 door Subaru station wagon? I must be halucinating..." But it is not just speed of course, it is the handling, the quickness in curves, the incredible traction, etc etc. And, that it requires the drivers imput to get the best out of it. This is not a car to be taken for granted once you get behind the wheel. I think it is the perfect compromise car, what other 4 door station wagon blows the two doors off most other cars! If I had it to do again, after 15k miles, I would order the short throw shifter, but as I have read in other reviews here, the car does seem to break in and settle in and run better and better. Plus of course, I have learned to drive it better, and better. A radar detector is a must! I have the Whistler model that installs in the car, detector up in the grill, and the cabin module mounts nicely where the ashtray goes (don''t smoke so its a perfect spot!) Read all the other reviews for more technical opinions of why this is such a great car, I can''t say more or better than those. If you are the type of car snob who just has to spend the extra thousands on a beemer or what not, go right ahead! I will see you at the next red light, or the next twisty mountain road, and then soon, I will be looking at you in the rear view mirror, trying to see that amazed look on your face! Strength:
Fun to drive--seems to want to go fast handling rigid body panels Tires can get you sideways Interior/trunk room versus other fast 25,000 cars like Mustang, Camaro. Practical and Fast with great handling, smooth ride, solid feel. Can drive it like a Corolla or a Camaro and get the gas milege of either. Personally I think it feels like a fast little BMW without the price. Wouldn''t buy it if it had leather or a sunroof. Car insurance cheaper than my van or Grand Am. Mine brakes great. No antilock problems, window chip problems or AC problems. Paint shrugs off barrels. Seats better than Recaros in Jetta I like the drivers seat height adjustment you can wear a cowboy hat and not get out of the car with it looking like a Berette
Weakness:
Tires can get you sideways Cup holders where do you put the big gulp? Made for tea drinkers. **Titanium shift knob--where''s the beef? For that price I want a bowling ball sized knob. **Will fit in Barbie mobile when not driving WRX I think it is funny how people complain about the interior of the WRX and then say compared to an Audi, Porsche, BMW it looks cheap. I don''t recall any car for $25,000.00 that has a $40,000 car interior. If you want cheap look at the Celica, Mitsubishi, or the cheapo plastic last gen. Camry. This car is so quiet I find it a little disturbing. I have to roll the window down to try to hear anything exciting and then all I get is wind noise. The car is much quieter than my girl friends 2000 Grand Am and quieter than my 2000 Mark 3 conversion van, or my mothers Sebring. I thought the Grand Am handled pretty good till I drove this thing. It handles so well it is scary. I live in the Texas Hill country and have taken curves without so much as going outside of the paint lines. Other cars would be off in the bushes. As for the paint durability--Itook out a construction barrel as 60 mph with no dents or paints damage. The impact was to the drivers front fender, bumper and drivers sideview. I do paint a bodywork for a living and I know that almost any other car would have had panel damage. It did blow out the glass in the drivers side mirror but that was the only damage. I think the metal it exceptionally rigid unlike some cars that you lean on and can feel the metal bend like a beer can. I don''t notice any turbo lag if I am using the gas pedal. If you drive it like your grandma''s car you will get a little stutter and some lag. Drive it like a sports car and you will not. I remember driving the 89 RX7 turbo and you could really feel the turbo kick in especially when circling a parking lot and the thing would kick in. The WRX is smooth all the way. Mine does have one major dash rattle which tightened up like a drum when it hit 70 degrees the other day. Guess the plastic likes hot weather. Upgraded stereo I think is excellant sound wise and easy to use. I Like the 6 cd in dash. Has large buttons unlike the aftermarket mini me buttons. Easier to hit at 60 on a 20 mph curve with barrels flying at you. I think it is deceptive to drive due to the quietness and lack of wheel spin. I am used to squealing wheels, sliding rear ends, and the feel of the wheel jerking out of you hands due to torque steer. In this thing you just get your neck snapping back into the headrest. just a regular 2.0 litre engine under 3000 rpm, but again, anyone who would buy this car would be above 3000 most of the time. I traded in my 2k1 eclipse gt spyder for the wrx (thank god). This car blows away my old one in every category. If you''re all about mashing on the gas through tight turns and having fun doing it... this is the car for you. Great handling, great personality, fast, fast and fast!
Weakness:
I don''''t really mind about the turbo lag, but it is there. sucky stereo for those who enjoys musics while driving, not a STi tunned one... ^____^ Oh, this is an awsome car!!! very good handling and fast too!!! some people is complaining about its look, you know bug looking eyes, weird looking butt, etc. but personaly i think it is a mean looking beast! you would think that way when you kick the audi S4''''s ass from 0-60. the stereo was okay since i don''''t really listening to music while i''''m driving because i love to hear to sound from the engine when i step on the gas to kick the turbo in. oh, you gotta love the sound. I had a honda Civic AT before and this is my first MT car, and i''''m a beginner MT driver, but this car is very easy to get use to its personality. you could easily predict how it wants you to drive after a few runs with it. anyway, if you are wondering what kind of car you want to get in about 30k of buget. i would recommend to wait for WRX STi for about 2k more, or just get a WRX now and modify it to 280hp just under 30k buget. heh, now you play chase with the police... just kidding :P (don''''t play chase w/ police, its not worth it) Similar Products Used: i have tried Audi S4 and BMW 325Xi but i still like the WRX better. 325Xi runs like a slow pork... |

Strength:
Quick. Responsive. Explosive acceleration from a dead stop. Aftermarket is getting larger as we speak. In-dash changer is a nice amenity. The ''whoosh'' of the turbo puts a smile on your face everytime.
Weakness:
Turbo Lag, yadda yadda. (Just shift around 3500 and this isn''t a problem.) Few interior choices. Plastic accents. Back seats don''t fold down. Audio quality is ok, pretty tame actually. (But you won''t care, you don''t buy this car for a stereo.) I love my car, oh how I love my car. A better job put me in my WRX, but Subaru is keeping me there. After trading in my ''92 Geo Storm (go ahead, laugh) I rested my butt in those seats and was hooked. The test drive I took was on a twisty back road with no salesperson. My girlfriend kept telling me to ease back, this is only a test drive, but I knew these roads. I owned them now and was making them bow to my WRX wishes. This car hammers out corners like Thor on Meth. If you''re considering buying a WRX. Just stop messing around and researching. If you want to go fast, for under $30k, this is your car. If you don''t like the looks, buy something else and stare at my ugly taillights. *snicker* I''m financing my car through Subaru, and the driver''s option is quite nice. I won''t bore you with it here, but ask your dealer about it. A short test drive does not do this car justice. In a previous review, I saw, "You have to learn to drive this car properly." This is true. The turbo lag, which everyone complains about, is the biggest obstacle to overcome. If you can, install a boost gauge to really get the feel of what''s going on under that big-nosed aluminum alloy hood. The gearbox takes a few days to get used to, after that, it''s beautiful. I purchased my WRX in November of 2001 and have not yet used the A/C. The heater does pump out the warmth, that''s for sure. Bottom line: Just go buy one already. Strength:
Handling, handling, handling. Fun factor. Acceleration. Driver seating. Sound. @30 mpg on hwy, 22 with agrressive driving. Above average stock radio w/ CD. Distinctive looks.
Weakness:
Cheap interior molding. Some fit & finish creaks. Speakers only ok. I am an owner, not a test driver or wannabe owner. I have used the WRX a little over 6 months and absolutely love it. Handling, grip, suspension feedback are all top notch. This car loves accelerations in the turns. The AWD improves stability when you''re in the gas. It hugs the road better than any four seater under $35,000. The MoMo steering wheel definately improves the driver''s ability to handle this car. Accleration is excellent. While there is that lag under 3000 rpm it is not significant unless you are accustomed to a high performance 6 or V8. Once the turbo engages it more than compensates for the lower rpm lag. Braking is terrific - the car seems so light that quick stopping is a pleasure. Seating is a real strong suit, even for a 6''4 man. This car has more headroom and leg room than any other performance car that I''ve driven. Back seat leg room can be cramped. The Recaro type seats have excellent grip and prominent side bolsters to hold your bum while you hold the car. Adjustments to the seat are varied enough to find a comfortable position. The position of the shifter in relation to the driver is excellent. Opt for the short throw option - it''s a blast and will improve your shifting ability to help offset the turbo lag. Dashboard layout is also good. Gauges view is clear and the amber green lights are easy on the eyes. I purchased the optional 3-in-dash gauges (temp, volt, turbo) and they are terrific. Besides giving the car that extra rally look, the turbo gauge has provided important feedback when shifting, accelerating, etc. As a $700 option it is negotiable and your friends will think it''s way-cool. Fit is finish is on par with other rice rockets - not BMW or Audi or quality, however. It is better than other under $20k cars like Saturn or Geo. The main weakness is in the plastic pieces surrounding the radio, a/c controls, and window controls. Otherwise the look of the black dash, instrument cluster, and general interior is quite good. The sound of this car is incredible. When that turbo hits the accompanying sound is like music. As a family hauler it makes a road rocket flexible and practical. This is the most fun I''ve had with my family in the car! Similar Products Used: Honda Accord EX - tries to be all things to all people. Audi A-6 - too mushy and fat to perform well. |

High theft rate. I''m in Australia and have had a WRX for about 6 years. I have to say the new model is butt ugly compared to the earlier models. Looks like a cross between a Corolla and a Hyundai. Most WRX owners here tend to agree. As a consequence the price of the new model has dropped quite considerably. Even the top of the line STI model. Similar Products Used: None |

No matter if it is a 10 minute run to the store or a 4 hour trek to the mountains this car is a blast to drive. Prior to my purchase, I did my research and read everthing possible on the 02 WRX. Carreview.com''ers and their reviews were extremely helpful. Also, Ask your local Subie Dealer for a copy of the ''WRX-Popular Press'' magazine I found it very helpful. It goes the 140mph! I''ve done it! 227hp AWD and a buncha torque. . .stock!!! 2nd gear is diesal, and dropping it into 3rd to show off is sweet as hell.Steering is quick and responsive. Oh and I got dealer installed leather($1000) and that adds to the kickin interior design.
Weakness:
The biggest weekness I found was that you dont really feel the power of the turbo kick in until about 3k rpm''s later. Oh and one other thing, if the window is rolled down when you shut the door it makes this lound "clunk" sound thats not music to the ears. To fix it I''m going to install "Xtreme Dynamat" to muffle the sound a little. But these weaknesses are minor, and easily fixable. This car is awesome! Talk about "Bang-for-the-Buck". I''m out there Beating $40,000 BMW''s, Mustang GT''s, Camero''s, and a whole bunch of other cars. It''s only been 2 months that I have been driving it and I''ve managed to rack up a little over 8k miles! This car is fun and i reccomend it to anyone. Similar Products Used: None |
