Strength:

Smooth acceleration, tight handling, nice interior, and turbo

Weakness:

The occasionally noticeable "turbo-lag"

I have been looking forward to getting a WRX for over 6 months. After countless hours of studying and research, I know much about the car, and have also carefully studied other cars in this price market (i.e., RSX Type-S, Celica, etc.). After finally getting the WRX, it has only exceeded my expectations. This car is amazing both from a technical and a drivability standpoint. The handling is tight and crisp, the acceleration is smooth and light, and the braking is firm and efficient. I am truly amazed by what this car can do, and I haven't begun to tap into its full potential. I have no complaints at all. For anyone who is questioning the looks of the car, trust me, the looks grow on you quickly -- I actually now like the bug-eyed headlights and the shape of the car. It is not flashy and exotic, like the Supra or RX-7; it has more of a technical-looking coolness to it. Get the turbo gauge – it makes the ride a lot more fun, being able to watch and feel as the boost rises and turbo opens up. I notice I almost start getting worried as the acceleration starts climbing so rapidly – it happens so quickly I think I am going to launch into warp-speed. That kind of worry is a GOOD thing; I am amazed by its smooth acceleration. This car is an unbelievably fun ride. And for the price, there is nothing that compares with it.

Strength:

Turbo. Great suspention. Good price. All Wheel Drive (and yes, you can feel it!), did I mention the price

Weakness:

The Car is rather slugish below 3000rpm (untill the turbo kicks in). The interior is nothing to write home about.

I've driven many cars over the years, and I have to say that the WRX was the most entertaining. Alhtough it was only a test drive, it was one hell of a test drive. The car performed well under almost all conditions and speeds. The most amazing thing about the car was the feeling of stability, even at 110mph the car felt as if it was idle. Also, driving through an onramp at 90mph was an amazing feat (not to be attemped in most cars in that price range)

similar... I drove a Civic Si a Eclipse, and a lancer that day. The WRX would have handed their asses back to them in a race.

Just about everything...

Weakness:

who cares about the friggin' cupholder!? it can be changed!(i changed mine, now its a tad bit bigger and is stronger) Turbo lag, blah blah(fixed that too, with about $600 in HP parts, now its got around 255hp, yes!) and interior can be changed, i've done so.

Wow. AWD. 227BHP. 4 cylinders! its got more top-end Oomph! then my friend's Camaro! he gets me in low-end torque though. Through abuot $1000 in mods, all of the weaknesses are all but eliminated. I LOVE this car! I'm kind of a gearhead, so i busted off all the cons about this car in about a week and a half! its now, very, VERY fast. turbo lag is down mucho far.

Strength:

Fun-factor, acceleration, handling, AWD, power everything, in-dash CD changer, great seats, awesome steering wheel, fit and finish/quality, practical......and personally I LOVE the looks!

Weakness:

cup holders are just barely adequate, Trunk lid sounds tinny when you close it, and that's really about it.(and I'm a very picky person when it comes to cars)

I am 31 and this is the first BRAND NEW car I have ever bought. All of my other cars have been used. I have wanted this car ever since I read it was finally coming to the USA and boy was it worth the wait. This car is everything I imagined and more. I have two daughters so I had to have something practical, but I am a car nut, so I wanted something performance oriented.(And I could only afford one new car) I have a smile on my face everytime I get out of the WRX. And I've never had a car attract so much attention before either. People either know what it is and tell me they love it, or they have never heard of it and want to know what it is. Either way, a day doesn't go by that someone doesn't say something to me about it. If you need more room, buy a van. If you want something with a more quiet ride, buy a lexus. If you want a practical, affordable race car for the street(or dirt)that can handle just about anything you throw it's way, then the WRX is for you. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's real close. Did I mention I love this car!?

Strength:

Practical/fun combo, acceleration, handling, awd, Subaru reliability, seats, price, cd changer convenience.

Weakness:

Minor stuff - acceleration at low rpm, a/c not very cold, marginal speaker sound, cd changer random feature only works on one disk at a time, cup holders.

I love my silver rocket/station wagon. Incredibly fast acceleration and great handling in a very practical, relatively affordable package with great seats and decent gadgets considering the price. I've grown to like the goofy looks. Seats are fantastic. Minor complaints - CD changer in dash is very convenient but sound quality is so so. A/C doesn't get cold enough to handle really hot weather. Absolute slug at low rpm's - have to keep the revs up. I got the short-throw shifter, and I reccomend it - makes shifting very quick and easy. Salesperson actually encouraged me to drive it really hard during the test drive. They have one designated sacrificial lamb wrx tester, so the one you drive off with will not have been abused.

Weakness:

Turbo lag, cup holders, blah, blah, blah. I dont care about this stuff anyway.

Very fun car! I drove an 87' Subaru RX Turbo when I was teenager and loved that car. The car went for 275,000 miles of which I drove 175,00 0 miles. So when the WRX finally made it to the states buying one was a no brainer. This cars potential for modifications was a big selling point also. I plan to do exhaust, intake, and break mods as soon as the car is broke in and I have some extra money. Dont get me wrong, the car is great right from the factory but the increased horse power and performance from a few minor modifications make a great car even better. Turbo lag is a minor issue but can easily taken care of with the right driving techniques and modifications. While inspecting the interior I was appauled to find styrofoam molding in the rear(wagon) under the floor covers. I guess Subaru wanted to either save some money or they were trying to shave some weight. We'll see We'll see how it holds up in the long run. I cant wait to get to that 1,000 mile mark so I can see what the car will really do. I am going to love this car!!!

Strength:

Blistering acceleration Shifts well, gear ratios are great Handles nicely Brakes work well when ABS leaves you alone Nice guages, easy to read at a glance

Weakness:

This car may create an irresistable appetite for smoking far-tee little Hondas with Folgers can exhausts ABS seems too 'active' for my liking The passenger side cupholder. It's right above the radio/CD player and heat/AC controls. DUH!! What a stupid place for cupholder that might end up holding drippy, sticky things.

Holy cow! If you like kick in the back acceleration and surefooted handling, this is the car for you. Once the tach is over the magic ~3400RPM mark, it's as though the hand of God is propelling you down the road til you release the accelerator. Great fun to drive! Handles well, overall kick-butt value for a compact sport sleeper.

Strength:

AWD, handling, speed, room (for a small car), distinctiveness (in the past 3 months, I've seen 4 others on NY metro roads).

Weakness:

Turbo lag (important only if you're trying out for The Fast and the Furious 2), incomplete instrumentation.

When my Mk III Supra started getting too long in the tooth for my weekly NYC-Vermont run, I had three criteria for a replacement: AWD (the Supra is a pig in snow), cargo capacity (sometimes I need to haul a lot of stuff), and performance (after driving 13 years in a car that zooms, it's hard to settle for an econobox). I found 2 cars that fit the bill: the WRX and the Audi S4 Avant. I figured I didn't need to pay 17 grand more for leather and a moonroof and I opted for the Subaru. Am I glad I did! This car eats up the miles on the highway, whips around that rusted out pickup truck on the only straight 100 yard stretch in 10 miles, and rockets through the curves on unpaved mountain roads. Plenty of room with the back seats down for skis, picnic tables, pet carriers. For summer, the AC does the job, although you don't get a blast of Arctic air out of the vents. For highway driving, a radar detector helps, but you'd better use the cruise control if you don't want uniformed persons asking you: "do you know why I stopped you, sir/ma'am?" (the only noticeable difference between doing 60 and 100 is that the scenery changes much faster). Oh, yeah, the insurance company thinks this is a subcompact with a lot of safety features and charges you accordingly.

Strength:

excellent acceleration, just enough oversteer to be fun in the dirt. Power windows, locks, remote entry, and 6-disc thanger are standard equipment.

Weakness:

Not very much torque under 3500 - makes standstill acceleration a little tricky. Factory tires are relatively useless on asphalt.

Thrilled with the car. Not another car comparable for the price.
