Strength:
Gas mileage, plastic panels, reliable, roomy for the cost.
Weakness:
Turn signal hard to switch, radio lacks UMPHH. This car has not caused me one problem since I purchased it about a year and a half ago (had 39K...now at 90K). It's been great. Yes, it's not an IROC engine, seats are not the most comfortable etc but it has been very reliable and good on gas. |

Strength:
good body, engine and drivetrain.
Weakness:
ridiculous prices on auto glass and possibly other things as well. I bought a '92 Saturn SL (pretty much the same as the SL2, except it has a single cam instead of a twin cam on the exact same inline 4-cylinder engine (WONDERFUL engine), and the trunk has no reflector across it) Anyway, I paid $1400 for it. It was beautiful, except for a couple of little dings on the trunk lid (made from something that was inside the trunk). I noticed some rust on one of the rear rocker panels, which I still have to fix, but it wasn't visible when the door was closed. The car has over 150k miles on it, and is as tight as a new one. The engine runs quiet and smooth. The manual trans is very good for shifting. After owning mine for 4 months, I was involved in an accident. I rear-ended a '88 Taurus Station Wagon. The nose of my SL went under the Taurus. The restraints worked perfectly and I was surprised at how well the car held up, based on the impact. I went to a junk yard and bought a '93 SL front-end for $350, and installed it myself. I had a rude awakening when I priced the windshield. Saturn quoted me $620 to replace the shield. I know someone in the business, and the best he could do was install it for $360, and that was basically him installing it for his cost of the windshield, and NO labor included. Saturn is the only maker of those windshields, and therefore their prices are horrendous for auto glass. If you buy one, it may be a good idea to get auto glass coverage on the insurance policy... it could save you a fortune in the long run. I had gotten many quotes for windshield replacement... one of them was for $1,420 !!! ...pretty funny, especially since the CAR cost me $20 less than that! Other than that fact that replacing the windshield is ludicrously expensive and I haven't been able to get the car back on the road for over 3 months, it's a wonderful little vehicle, and I miss driving it. I'm very ticked off that used shields break when removed and new ones are so expensive. I've written to Saturn about the prices, but I don't expect that they'll care to even respond with anything better than a form letter, if anything at all. Strength:
good gas mileage and easy to maneuver.
Weakness:
My windshield wiper reservoir was mysteriously missing after an oil change at the Saturn Dealership. I still don't understand that one. Burns oil fast. when I bought my saturn it had about 24,000 miles on it, and the problems started at about 30,000 miles. One day I was driving and noticed that the oil light was coming on. It had only been 2000 miles since my last oil change, but it had already burned down to a quart. I took it to Saturn to have them look at it, and they said that it had a problem with the rings which was "not cheap" as they said ($1700) to repair. I didn't care for their flippant attitudes in the service department so I left without having any repairs done. It still burns oil fast, and a couple of times I have had to add oil three weeks after an oil change. Last summer the alternator and timing belt went out at the same time. I had them replaced at the dealership where the service department told me the price was "not cheap" ($964) and said, "You bought this thing used?!?!" Luckily, it hasn't caused me any trouble in the past year, but I wouldn't buy another one. |

No body rusting Smaller finding an honest mechanic!
Weakness:
Dealer repair service honesty (not to say some are) electrical glitches Alternator I'm attached to this car for as long as the engine will be. I would not recommend going to the dealer for repairs in any Cincinnati Saturn dealer or to the Greeensboro,NC dealer unless you have warrenty work to be done. I've put enough money into replacing the now third alternator, after the third battery was replace by the greensboro dealer. The same dealer that did several hundred, proably into thousands of dollars of repairs. I was a young college student far from home at the time then...Butn the first warning signs came earlier, that were supressed until now. I was told by a Cincinnati, service manger that I was "taken" by a service manger in Greensboro and that he could not honor a credit writtne on the back of a business car. I've been told that 140,000 miles are to many and that the engine is to old...it keeps going. (hum)I've been handed a new battery and told to put it in myself, the car was 3 years old. How's that for great customer service. But yes I do like the it for a younger first time driver. Or a single person who has short friends...Yes I've fit 3 broad shouldered men in there but to say it was comfortable would be like OJ saying he was innocent. My loudest complaint is the repair service and honesty..So i could have and should have complained or questioned more, but this is supposed to be an honest company. I love this car, and now my new mechanic who is honest and won't rip me off....It was great for the first 4 years, but after that dump it and fast.. excellent product, customer service, great company. I am the one owner of my 7yr old Saturn. My only problems are that in my 5th year of ownership my lumbar support broke and the seal over my driver's side door slightly leaks in a downpour. The car runs great, is reliable, and cost efficient. I have 135,000 miles on it and I still get 35 to 40 mi/gal. To make everything even better the Saturn company has a great personal attitude towards thier customers. I STILL GET BIRTHDAY CARDS FOR MY CAR! Similar Products Used: 1998 SC2 |

Price, gas milage, customer service, I've had nothing but good experiences with the Saturn staff, across 2 states too.
Weakness:
can't really think of anything My Saturn was the first brand new car I bought as an adult. The customer service has been outstanding! I moved to NC in 1999 and had trouble with my Saturn down there. My thermostat was shot (or so I thought) so I replaced it. A week later I was driveing down the road, and bam! the engine seized. I had it towed to a nearby garage and they said it was done, I could get $500 for it and that was about it. I called the Saturn retailer closest to me in Charlotte in hysterics and told them what happened. They paid for it to be towed to their dealership and gave me a rental car free of charge while they looked at it. Apparently, there was a defective part in the engine that casued it. They gave me a brand new engine, let me keep the rental car and delivered it back to me and I didn't pay a dime! I still have my Saturn and other than routine maintenace, I've never had a problem. The gas milage is great and for the price of this car, you couldn't ask for more. Similar Products Used: 1982 Buick Regal |

Very few problems.
Weakness:
Not a lot of room now that I have a family. We purchased the car used in 1997 with 40,000 miles. My Saturn now has nearly 130,000 miles. I love my Saturn! The alternator had to be replaced a few years ago and I have had a few minor electrical problems with the power windows and seat belts. Over all the Saturn has proven itself to be a great car with minor problems. I would definately buy another one and hope to get a few more 1,000 miles on mine. Cheap, cheap, cheap!
Weakness:
None so far I had a 93 SL2 that went 200,000 miles so I am hopeful. Plus, this car was one of the special 2002 SL models with A/C for $9995 including destination. So far, it is better than my SL2, but it needed an engine when I traded it in. They gave me $600 for it and I was pretty happy considering it needed an engine and had 199,800 miles on it! Friendly service in the warranty.
Weakness:
Outside of warranty, wants to charge $75 an hour for labor plus parts. At first, the Saturn staff was pretty nice considering I was still in my warranty. Within 25 miles of my manufacturers warranty, the sunroof motor went out. Had it replaced and in the process, pinched a wire for the brake lights, making them inoperable. The wire finally broke AFTER the service warranty expired, and now Saturn wants to charge me for the repair. My sunroof motor went out again, and I have only had the car a little less than 2 years. |

Strength:
Very strong design, many options to add on the standard model, customer satisfaction.
Weakness:
Haunted by poor reviews. I was a little aprehensive on purchasing a Saturn, mainly due to the poor reviews. But after owning the car for a short time, I have 100% satisfaction. I have purchased a Pontiac brand new, and that experience can't even compete with the customer satisfaction that I received from Saturn. The car itself is smart. I mean that there are so many little characteristics that make sense and make the car just that much more perfect. My price paid was Canadian and included every option except for automatic transmission. |
