on dash clock does not work - he-he

I bought it with 150,000 miles 3.5y ago. EVERYTHING 100% functional now at 175,000 including sunroof, all windows, AC and so on. Oh, on dash clock does not work, but who cares. It is not unbreakable , I changed master cylinder, 1 injector and hiPress PS hose but ABS, engine, trans, suspension never failed – this is all I need to get from point A to B. It is getting more and more rusty and I feel very sorry I will have to replace it one day.

Strength:

Power, interior room (which is deceiving from the outside, but I am very tall and there is plenty of legroom, more than most larger cars that I test drove), gadgets (heated seats, DVD Nav, 6-CD Bose) and everything is fully customizable. You can even change if you want to horn to honk when you lock your car.

Weakness:

6-speed transmission. Sounds ridiculous, I know. But when driving at lower speeds (read 20-35) the transmission wants to shift a lot. With six gears to go through, it shifts every 5-10 miles per hour. When driving in traffic, you can feel it downshift at times. Turning radius is poor. Once again, sounds petty, but took some time getting accustomed to when trying to park. Somewhat uncomfortable seats on long trips. Though that may be attributed to my height.

While I will readily admit that since I have only had the car for about 2 months I should still be smitten with it I will also say that this is a fun car to drive. At 265 HP's she has enough power to deal with the erratic driving of the locals here in Philadelphia but not so much that your neck becomes sore. I will recommend that if you buy the Maxima, get everything. The DVD navigation, heated seats (both front and rear), and the Bose audio system. The DVD navigation system is like a Palm pilot; life was just fine without one, but now that you have one you could not live without it. All that being said, the '04 Maxima is a great car with great looks (I chose the Radiant Ember paint job with the Burnt Orange interior...a little eccentric I know) that turns a lot of heads.

Strength:

Good car with smooth ride, accelerated, no minor problem.

Weakness:

Nissan knew the ignition coil problem but did not offer to recall. Most 95-99 Maxima have the Service Engine Soon light ON after 40K miles on it (unfortunately after a warranty). When this light is ON, it can be anything that cost a owner from $50 to over $700.

My review will be worth it since I have been driving my 99 Maxima since it was brought brand new until today. It is a good car so far after 4 years. A latest and only problem I recently had was a Service Engine Soon light ON. After I took it to a dealer for diagnostic test, they found there was a problem with Ignition Signal Primary code P1320. The car was still running fine without any misfire. Therefore, a mechanic could not pin point which ignition coil was bad. He suggested to replace all six coils on 6-cynlinders. The cost will be $74 for each coil and $244 for labor. Over $700 total. It really made me mad at a car with only 47K and has been well maintenance.

well built to substain serious accidents. the whole car , i will buy another.

Weakness:

none in my mind

well we all know about the maxima dependability, ride and looks. let me tell you about this. my son had a 98 maxima and was involved in a crash of about 60 mph. someone pulled out in front of my son on a state hwy, and he t - boned this chevy blazer at 60 mph. my son is alive today with only stiffness in neck back and knees. due to the well built maxima. the air bags and seatbelts saved his life. the car is totaled but my son is alive. there is no doubt in my mind that if this car was a subcompact or one of the small pickups that he wouldn't be alive today. please keep this in mind when purchasing a car for a loved one, it might cost a few thousand more, but what price can you put on the life of a loved one. i love the maximas and will buy another as soon as we settle.

Strength:

Acceleration, Braking, Fuel Economy, Reliability, Price

Weakness:

Automatic Transmission, Location of Stereo Controls, No Fold Down Rear Seat

Within the past year the car has been driven about 28,000 miles. The Maxima provides its driver with a smooth, but sporty ride, decent braking, excellent acceleration, and decent fuel economy (28/21) at a good price. This is my second Maxima. The last Maxima I owned went 185,000 miles and was going strong when I sold it. I currently have 87,000 miles on this 1998 and haven't experienced any Mechanical problems to date. The Bose CD Stereo has good sound, and the speakers handle good power for a stock stereo. The controls for the sound system are inconveniently located for a channel flipper such as myself (I would prefer a steering wheel tuner button). My car has a black leather interior. The leather seats look cheap but are relatively comfortable. Don't buy black leather unless you choose to "limo tint" your car unless you want to fry every time you get into the car during the day. The significant downfall in this Maxima is the automatic transmission. It is simply boring and will not downshift to its lowest gear unless the car comes to a complete stop. If the driver slows down to a near stop (1mph) then tries to accelerate quickly, the car tries to move forward in 3rd gear unless the gas pedal is pushed to the floor. Once the pedal is depressed completely, the car revs and slams into the lower gear. I'm sure that action does not help the transmission lifespan. Besides that, I would recommend a Maxima to anyone who wishes to obtain a quality and sporty midside car at a good price.

trunk would not open when i hit the trunk switch, and the right passenger side window would not stay up.

good gas mileage, never had a problem with this car, but i traded it in for a 97 plymouth voyager, which was a big mistake, for any college students out there, the Nissan Maxima is for you.

Comfort, and power. The car has been relatively solid over the years. Breaks are great! It is alot of car for the money.

Weakness:

Clutch doesn't seem to last as long as it should (and I don't gun or race my car or ride the clutch). Shifting is a bit stiff. The CD player never really worked well.

The 5 speed Maxima has been a great car. The only thing in the way of unexpected issues over the last 8 years: Injector went, and the Clutch has been replaced twice over 90K miles. The radio never really work well..particularily the CD. I also had a bearing go in my trans at 90k

Power and performance. Reliability history. Great interior appointments including LOTS of room. Excellent style!

Weakness:

Wide turning circle.

OK. This is a HOT, PHAT automobile. A lot of bang for the buck! I bought the SE model in a 6 speed manual (a monster I say!) with the sensory package. (leather, heated seats and mirrors, 320 watt Bose stereo, and more) I say super job to Nissan for the total redesign of this car. The styling is so sexy and with its agressive coupe like appearence I see so many heads turn when I cruise down the streets! Not to mention the awesome power with it's 265 horses and it's sleek, modern interior appointments.... and talk about a kick a-- stereo? Best factory (Bose) stereo I've ever heard. The cabin has such an open airy feel and PLENTY of room. And the skyview roof? My passengers LOVE it. I originally wanted the sunroof but when I test drove one with the skyview roof, I wanted to try this original concept. I have no regrets! Given it's reliability history, power and luxury features you would find in entry level luxury to luxury level cars I say buy this car if it's amongst your list to shop.

engine, power, features, quality build, reliability, space and mpg. I averaged 28.3mpg on a 500mile trip with the A/C last week!!!

Weakness:

poor cup holders and that is all.

THIS CAR IS WONDERFUL! I bought this car used in February of 98 with only 24000 miles. I now have over 195,000. This bad boy will "boogy." It has excellent power, excellent reliability, and a pretty good look. It is pearl white with sunroof, and everything else: ABS, heated leather... everything. I have not had a major problem yet. I only had to take it too the dealer for a 90000 mile service because I thought it would be something nice to do. Other than that, the only thing that I have had to replace was oil, brakes, and tires. The a/c had to be recharged last summer, that is all. I will never trade it. I will also get the 04 Maxima SE with the Elite pkge. So all in all, it is great. And I love the 6 speaker Bose. It is great for all types of music. If you own one of these cars, you are a lucky person! My girlfriend said that it is a sexy looking car when it is clean.
