Mercury Sable
Strength:
Little to no rust (on a nine year old car), smooth running engine. The car has never left me stranded.
Weakness:
Some rattles. I have had my Sable for seven years, purchased it off a two year lease. It now has 115,000 miles and still running great. I had problems with the radiator and water pump. I''m on my fourth water pump and third radiator, but once I had the water pump replaced at a Ford dealership it''s been fine since. I''m not sure why the radiator kept springing leaks. The body still looks great (very little to no rust) and the finish still looks brand new. I also had problems with the oil pan gasket, but no major engine or transmission problems. My daughter is turning 16 next year and she is taking over the car; I don''t want to part with it because it has been a great car (and it''s been paid off for three years now!) not worth the headaches!!!!!!
Weakness:
doors not water resistant, wipers fit wrong, and lazy service men!!!! I bought this car new because i thought for the money you can not beat the options, however i wish i would have thoughtmore about quaility and not quanity. For the first 3 weeks my drivers side front tire kept going flat, took it to the dealer they said their was nothing wrong. I took the tire off and saw a crack in the rim with a "blue " circle around it. Next the drivers side rear door collects water( when it rains)in the bottom and apon opening the door water pours on your feet. Dealer says never saw water, even though the entire back floor was soaked. next the wipers, even though the car is brand new, squeak and squeel and hug the window to tightly. Strength:
Comfort is the most appealing feature. Lots of leg, arm, body and storage room has been great.
Weakness:
Gas milege isn''t too hot. Decorative trims aswell as window and door seals are always loose of have fallen right off. We are starting to have some fuel and transmission problems (bucking during acceloration)but lucky us it was just written off by our insurance company. The car was sandwiched between two vehicles at a red light. I like this car. We''ve used it for vactions across Canada and into the states on top of everyday use which is hours and hours of highway driving. The car has protected my family in several accidents. I walked away after rolling down a hill into a creek. I''ve had no mechanical problem untill summer 2000. The alternator had to be rebuilt (tension belt), the dash shook, rad leaked and I was always fixing tire rods, arms and struts but my driving my play a roll in those cases. Strength:
Great reliability, smooth ride, all options, comfortable, great looking, solid car, AMERICAN MADE!!!!
Weakness:
I don''t like the factory 5x7 speakers in the rear. This is a great car. I only have the 3.0, but it still has ok acceleration and speed. I haven''t had anything wrong with the car. I had the rear struts replaced because the last person that did them did them wrong. I am getting some rust, but that is expected. I also think the tranny might be going out, but it just rolled over 180,000 miles. Similar Products Used: None |

SABLE LS
Strength:
Get the 3 litre, 200 hp engine. It can really get up and go. Mileage is good, about 28 on the highway. Roomy interior, good lumbar support for driver. Safety features ahead of the game. Good visibility. A/C up to Texas summer standards.
Weakness:
Now at 50,000 miles, I regret not buying the extended warranty. Had to replace power steering gear & pump to the tune of $1,200. Transmission slow to respond when engine is cold. More squeaks and wind noise than the imports, of course. Trunk spacious, but opening too restrictive. Bought this car with 18,000 miles in 1998. The 200 hp engine is surprisingly powerful. This is NOT a Japanese or German car, and does not compare favorably with Camry, et al. However, the Sable is considerably more affordable than an import if you buy it used. Overall, a fine American-built car for its class. Similar Products Used: 1992 Saturn SL2; 1991 Ford Tempo GS |

TO THE LOSERS WITH THE "HUNGRY? EAT YOUR IMPORT" BUMPERSTICKER.....SHUT UP DORK! hummer gets better gas milage. Radio is too difficult to replace. Poor reception. Low head-rests are uncomfortable. Check engine light came on and transmission slides all over like a hockey puck. DONT BE A SUCKER. IT LOOKS LIKE A NICE HONEST RESPONSIBLE DEPENDABLE CAR BUT ITS A GAS GUZZLING MONEY SUCKING P.O.S. I am sooooo mad, should have bought a Honda. I am an advertising executive so I travel alot. I put 70xxx mi in one year. bought with 15xxx miles. the ENGINE, the sets were not comfortable until i put old pillows in them and put vinyl on them, and the mechanical quality. This car has some of the best looks on a car to date cause of the gold paint with brown trim and the fact that i added a spoiler. Mechanically it ford can take it and shove it cause they messed up big time. The car NOW has a good transmission in it. The engine began its crap at 90,000 miles and the trans went out at 124,000. My parents had it then and they got a used transmission and engine. They gave it to me at this point and all me and them have had is problems. It has too many problems to list i am not lying. The last one was the headgasket (Ford's Lil surprise). I have since decided to get another car THAT is not built by ford cause they suck. I am looking at a dodge intrepid and a mitsibishi galant. Similar Products Used: Ford Focus alot better, dodge intrepid made the car look like an escort gag, Plymouth Reliant, i like it still and i hate my sable |

Mercury Sable Station Wagon
Strength:
Comfortable, Roomy and loads of features
Weakness:
Fuel economy is poor. Had a similar warrantied power steering problem to that noted above. Thankfully no transmission problems to date. We started looking for a small station wagon, Ford Escort or Hyundai Excel but made the mistake of test driving the Sable Wagon and we were impressed with the ride. The exterior looks are love or leave but from a distance they actually look good and they grow on you even if you don't like them at first. Whoever said first impressions were lasting impressions. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort/Hyundai Excel. I found the Ford/Mercury product to be superior but fuel economy concerns are an issue. |

ashtry is an after thought i have the 96 sable ls that has the 200 hp duratec dual overhead cam v6 with dual exhaust. i also have the highly up graded factory stereo system. it has a 12 bass speaker mounted in the trunk as well as a 6 cd changer. it is fully equipped with leather fully power seats with lumbar support. needless to say it is bad merc indeed.
