Strength:

Handles like its on a rail. Never has broke loose from the road and I push it hard. [Maybe the reason the tranny needs replacing now?!]

Weakness:

Impossible to get out of the back seat. Only let your enemies sit back there. Visability in rear is not great. But then what's behind you is not important.

Has had a funny electrical problem since I got the car. No one has been able to fix it and tell me there must be ashort in the eletrical mantel itself. Anyhow, when lights are on and passenger door is open, the windshield wipers - front & back come on; also the dome light flashes on and off. Occasionally other little quirks occur, like I have to turn off the lights if I want to get the washer fluid to squirt. Now at 81,000 need to replace the transmission. But honestly between zero and 81,000 have had few problems if you ignore the electrical gremlin.

Weakness:

Smallish gas tank. Visibilty when backing up. MIGHT handle too well...

Car is a 99, bought used in summer of 03. Car had 87000 km on it. Now has 135 000. Fantastic Car. Did have to replace the alternator, but was ubder warranty. Car has a Sun Roof but it doesn't work. With A/C though, who cares ?? Avg of about 33 mpg. With 4 wheel studded tires for winter, goes through snow like it isn,t there. Traction control and ABS brakes work great in conjunction with bad roads. Have changed oil every 5000, cheap and quick. Level never goes down. Brakes replaced by me at 130 000 km. Consider that routine stuff. I do all my own car work, but other then routine stuff, nothing else has been done. Goes like the wind, handles like it is on rails, and is quiet & comfy to boot.

Weakness:

Rear visibility Stupid MoOnRoOf.. Ford is retarded

I recently bought a used 99' Cougar, with 113,000 Silver with Grey cloth interior. The seats had some mild stains and the ceiling but all came out with some carpet cleaner, and a good scrub. It had quite a few scrapes and the front bottom grill was bissing. No Biggie. The AC only works on "4" but we found the part to fix it for 14$. The C.E.L was on due to a O2 censor in the exhaust "emissions problems" or something...we unhooked the battery for 24hrs. and the computers fixed themselves. The power windows didnt work, we took the door apart and bought a new relay...now they work. There are lots of small problems with this car but they were easy fixes. Overall its a nice car for a good price, rides nicely and is comfortable (unless you weigh 400 lbs and are riding in the backseats..)Overall Pleasing.

It's not worth anything anymore! & Did you read the review??

My granny always used to say "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" Well I've been making freaking lemonade for 5 years and I'm ready for a change! Where to begin...this car has been a god-awful nightmare since the beginning. I'm not sure exactly what the worst problem has been...let's see--maybe the dropped transmission at 60,001 miles (1 mile after the gosh darn warranty was up)--broken power doors & windows, broken trunk, broken AC/Heat that only works on level 4 (really who needs to be that hot or cold ever?) high labor costs, poor engine accessibility, broken rearview mirror (that was my fault) broken cup holder, broken trunk latch, Goddarn CEL, expensive tires, broken fuel pump, new brakes every 10,000 miles, dead person like moaning under hood, squeaky mouse noise from back wheels, rattle snakey noise from under driver side (all of these animal noises may be due to the fact that i never clean it) broken bank account, broken spirit!

Have you seen this car?

Weakness:

Cost of routine maintenance is high. Cost of replacement parts is high. Too many failures that do't provide any warning before they happen.

I've had my Cougar for just over 4-1/2 years and the past 7 months have been horrendous. I've had to call AAA for emergency roadside service three times since June (the idler motor?) In September it was the battery - dead as the proverbial doornail and it wouldn't hold a charge at all. And, of course, we had to go to the dealership for a suitable replacement battery, which cost far more than it should ($100+). And finally, last Saturday, it wouldn't start. That was the ECM, another expensive part that needs to be replaced. Since June '04 I've put about $3000 into this car for maintenance! I have to accept the fact that it isn't worth it! Which is a shame, I have only 69,000 miles on it and, except for these problems, I love it!

This is the first and last Frod product I've bought. Time to go back to the reliable imports.

Strength:

It definitely has the get up and go that I like and it's just a sharp looking car.

Weakness:

It's starting to cost me a lot in repairs

I bought my Cougar brand new right off the truck. I am getting irritated with it lately. It seems I have paid out of pocket for several defects that have been recalled. And Ford doesn't seem to think that my car is eligible. I have replaced the moonroof, gas pump, and as of tomorrow the alternator. I really like the car and it handles ok in the midwest with the winters we have had recently. The back seat is roomy if you can get back there and are under 5 ft 5. :) I have not had any real issues and my 2000 has 134000 miles on it.

Strength:

Price vs. Style Uniqueness & limited quantities Colors curvy headlights & tail lights Stylish interior (except cupholder! see below) Comfortable sports style seats w/lumbar adjustment Large trunk that's easy to load & un-load.

Weakness:

Pull-up cup holder! It sucks. It isn't stable and anything gets in the track and it jams. While still under warranty, it was replaced - and is again sticking. Trunk spring is not stiff enough to hold lid from re-latching. Whiney squeal when starting cold. friends fight over who sits in the back seat.

I've had my Cougar nearly 5 years, and still love it. IMO I think Ford should have promoted the Cougar more and less on the Focus... maybe they would have kept them both. Afterall, they pushed to Focus on the early 20s age group, and what would be more appealing than a curvy sporty car that more or less cost the same as the boxy econo car? I've had a few repairs, but luckily, most came up while still under the warranty. Steamy headlight, loose doorhandle trim piece, electronic key chip/ignition had to be re-set, cup holder. Have only paid for a brake switch replacement (where brake lights stay on) and one fog lamp bulb and a new set of tires so far.

Weakness:

Check engine light has been on since 6 mos after purchase new, no one seems to know why. Took it to 2 different dealerships while it was under warranty but the light never went off. They finally chalked it up to a bad computer and left it at that.(ford customer service sucks) However, now that we have emissions testing, I can't pass emissions with the CEL on. STILL can't get it off after tuneup, replacing multiple sensors, cleaning egr valve, etc. O2 sensors have been replaced many times. Moon roof quit working. Tires ridiculously expensive because they are rare. I could live with the weak cup holder and broken trunk latch if I could just get the CEL light to go off. Beginning to hate this car.

Worst mistake I ever made. I love the way it looks, but I cannot afford the maintenance.
