Strength:
Extremeley comfortable inside, appears like a newer model car. I love everything about my car, and it drives like a dream.
Weakness:
Only slight one - glitch in seatbelt monitor makes it beep once in a while Being my very first car (i am fifteen), the protege drives perfectly and handles great so I am happy. The exterior is awesome as well - tinted windows, sunroof, spoiler, and even the little mudflaps are cool. Excellent car for only 3 grand! Similar Products Used: 1991 Plymouth Sundance, 1992 Pontiac Grand-Am - Protege is better than both by far, (buy my opinion may be biased, seeing that the progege is MINE. |

Protege LX
Strength:
Even though I have only had the car for about 1 day or so, I believe that it is one of the best if not the best small sedans out on the market. After looking at other cars, (civic, acord, corrola), the Mazada Protege LX had many of the same gadgets as the cars mentioned above, but it also had many gadgets that they didn't have.
Weakness:
To early to tell. Many people complained about the cars noise when going 65+ on the highway, but I did not here anything. I Paid $16,000 for the car after mazda discounted the car a little bit. Being someone who just graduated from college, I would recomend the car to any body looking for a good long lasting car. If you are thinking about buying a protege, go with the LX or ES and forget about the DXP. Similar Products Used: corrola, civic. |

Not a Toyoya or Honda I paid $13,000 for my Mazda Protege LX manual trans in '94. I have been driving it for 6 years now and put 62,000 miles on it. I don't have any problem it this car. I only change front brake, repleace 1 CV-boot and do the basic maintainance. I felt lucky that I bought it. It's cheap and reliable. And I hardly spend any money for maintainance. What else can you expect from a compact car? Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Classy interior styling, with plenty of leg/head room for tall drivers. At 6' 5", I fit this car perfectly, and the kids don't complain about leg room in the back seats. Smooth, quiet, solid and stable ride. Very good stereo.
Weakness:
Not the most powerful engine, but I was going for fuel economy - not street racing. Paid 13.2K after rebates for 2000 LX w/ Automatic and A/C packages. I was very satisfied with the price, and the car is the best value I have experienced. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Has a special turbo button that increases power. Used to take climbs in elevation from 1000 to 3000 feet at 75/80 MPH while other vehicles were gasping for air. Dependable. Love that it turns over everday since it's paid for.
Weakness:
CV joint clicks and CV boot wear out, but I don't care. Has 94k miles. Had engine partially rebuilt in 1998. Leaks a little oil and now the air is shot. Any ideas on the air? Overall, love the car. It outlasted the payments. It's burning some oil but if I get another 50K + miles out of it I'll be happy. Gas mileage is still very good. I'm not putting any more $ into it except to fix the air Similar Products Used: Not really any comparison. Into the SUV thing now |

*Great&Euro Looking
Weakness:
*Poor Acceleration at 4th gear (auto trans.) from 80km/h to 100 km/h For $20,000 Cdn, I got my Protege LX (U.S ES) with touring package. I love it. I think the protege has the best shape in the small car market. Better than Civic, Sentra, Acura 1.6EL, much better than Corolla. Similar Products Used: *1992 Corolla LSX, I even have virable inter. wiper but not available on Protege |

It looks great especially the color I have - midnight blue mica. Very roomy interior, I like it how they pushe the dashboard more to the front, similar to accrd, it makes the car feel much more roomier inside. Handling is great, great on turns, and acceleration is very nice. I have a 5 speed manual, and it is very responsive. All these myths about the engine noise are not true. When doing 80mph on a highway the car feels like its a high class 4 cyl, or six cyl car. I think the stereo is great, CD player is very comfortable to use, and the speakers provide very very adequate power for anyone. I have a $350 Alpine in my basement, and I am not even thinking of putting it in this car, no point, the mazda CD player is great!
Weakness:
Brakes, they are a little weak, if Mazda had ABS standart on thyis or toher model this would make this car pretty much perfect leasing for $228 a month taxes included, and $2600 down for 39 months. Similar Products Used: Mazda protege 1992 LX. Same thing but older |

Feels like a bigger car, first time i drove it felt like a miniature tank, not what you'd get from American cars. Excellent handling, very precise. Seats offer excellent support and firm, excellent for long hauls. Gauges are complete and very well located. Reat seating is almost as comfortable as front. Lots of head room to spare for taller people. Mileage is good until you hit 3000 rpms then bye bye gasoline. Visibility is excellent.
Weakness:
Too many rattles with the windows (all 4 of them!). Slight transmission balking between first and second gears, dealer couldnt fix it, will bring it back again. Driver's seat has become loose with time, other odds and ends but nothing major. This car gives excellent value for the money, just dont get the 1.5 or 1.6 liter engine, get the 1.8 or you will need to add hamsters in your engine yourself. I would recommend this car simply because I havent had any major issues with it, rattles and stuff are typical of 80% or cars out there anyways. The car is a lot of fun to drive, mileage is good, not great for a small car. I took mine fully loaded except for the sunroof which was too small to be effective (about the size of a computer keyboard) and it's a very practical car. Sandlewood is definitely the best color, takes forever until it looks dirty. For the price, about $20,000 (i leased it), it's very hard to beat, and Honda Civics are way too expensive. Will look at the new Saturn LS for the next car ... Similar Products Used: Neon 1995, what a piece of junk !!! Chrysler must've used the Flinstones blueprints to build this car. I wouldnt recommend it to my worst enemy; nobody deserves that. |

Strength:
reliable always starts. Handels well at speeds of 125mph. roomy front and back. Comfortable seats. Great for mountain driving and off road.
Weakness:
drab body styling. occasional interior rattles. I have over 200,000mi. on my protege and the engine runs like a top w/out burning or leaking oil. went through a couple sets of cv joints and had the wheel bearins replaced in the front. What do you expect when i go off road drive the hell out of it. No engine repairs or problems just basic tune-ups and belts. I don't think Mazda makes as good of car as they did before 95. Strength:
This car has been extremely reliable. The only parts that have failed were due to the fault of the owner. After 126k km's of hard use (4 road racing track events, 3 visits to the drag strip) I am still on the original clutch, and I do not need to add ANY oil in between oil changes.
Weakness:
Rust has been a problem on the trim and body panels. A bit noisy (but this may be due to an acccident. paid 16600 $cdn brand new in 1993. i would recommend the new models as they seem to be drastically improved over this year. Similar Products Used: 1995 honda civic, 1996 honda accord. |
