Strength:

ENGINE, ENGINE, ENGINE consistently beat civics, accords, tercels, camrys, and anything with a 4cyl engine off the line. Fast, gotta be careful you don't realize how fast you are going. Handling is great...ENGINE, ENGINE, ENGINE!!!!

Weakness:

Power windows, a/c blower

This is a great car, unfortunately I have to sell it to get a truck. But I will have a warm spot in my heart for this car. My parents bought it in 1991 and handed it down to me, my mom was so sad. Anyway, if you are considering a Protege of this era, consider this, the only problems with the car are the CV joints, make sure they are good when you buy it. I had a timing belt break on me at 75 miles an hour and all I had to do was replace it, engine still runs great, a toyota or honda and the engine would have been shot. Great car. and handles like a dream.

This car is AWFUL in the snow. Have owned Proteges since 1993 and all have been just fine in snow. This one is unbelievably unstable. I don't think it's the tires.....My sister bought identical car...Mine came with Toyos hers with something else....and we are both amazed at the poor performance in snow.

Would highly recommend--except snow tires may be a necessity.

Strength:

Sorry not an owner but test drove one recently. Car had only 34 miles so was definitely stiff and not broken in. Engine sounded good but not noticeably that powerful but once again, car wasn't broken in.
Has nice clean looks and thoughtful interior. Quality build/feel.

Weakness:

Still a small car and sort of rides like one.
Not sure what the thinking was behind the "mini-me" circular fan dial.

Right now you can basically get an ES Protege for about $13K w/o a sunroof. That's still a good value in my opinion. I wasn't that impressed with the ES but maybe it's because I didn't drive it enough or expected it to seem radically different than my '93 DX which it didn't at least initially. Still you really can't go wrong by buying a Protege, especially an ES. I don't know anyone who doesn't like them.....myself included.

1993 Protege DX. To me it didn't seem that much more impressive than my '93. But I loved my 93 Protege.
2000 626ES V6-What I got instead used for a few grand more than a new Protege ES. 626 is a different car. Not as nimble but feels more substantial with a much better ride and my V6 obviously has more pull.

Strength:

good front head and leg room with good manual adjustments
good cubby holes & glove box
good size trunk
easy gages and controls
great steering, easy to park
quick to heat up

Weakness:

bland dashboard-Upgraded it with wood dash trim, improved the interior tremendously
High speeds-Engine feels and sounds like it's straining and get a bit wind noise
factory radio-is just functional, no frills

1. as a general run around car is great, kinda tiring on long trips
2. good looking and fun to drive
3. seems lower priced than most commpact imports when used

Strength:

Its appearence, its aftermarket possibility, as well, its drivability. Its a nice small car to drive around in. Interior, big as hell!
The mica black paint looks so damn nice..nicer than a lot of brand new cars out there. Probability its cuz of the metalic elements in there.

Weakness:

Its transmission is weak (auto), as well, it lacks power. Maybe need larger sway bar, but frame itself its pretty stiff.

Highly recommend it, but please get the manual transmission or else you'll totally beg for more power. But other than that, its all good.

Strength:

It drives like a bat out of hell... (It is great)... Very big engine in small conpartmnet. Drives smooth and handles like a fighter jet.

Weakness:

A little small for a 6'9 300 lbs man... Stick is a little loose on shifting

I would reccomend it for beginners and veteran of driving. It is very fuel economical I get 40+ mpg on highway... About 300-400 miles per tank. Good for student and pizza delivery vehicle. Would reccomend to anybody looking for there first car.

cant think of any

This is the first car that I have ever owned, and so far it has proved to me to be nothing but reliable. I recently drove to California and got 45 miles a gallon!!!! Thats unheard of for most smaller cars its size. Although its only a 1.8 liter I think it has ample power and always starts up just fine every day. I like very much how it handles on the road, its very quiet as well. Ive never had any problems with this car, and I would recommend this kind of car to those who value reliability and great gas mileage, and also to those that only need drive from home to work or school, great little car if you fit this criteria. The next one I hope to get if I can save enough will be a 2000 model, now that one looks really awesome!!! 118, 000 miles and still running strong.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST CARS I HAVE EVER OWNED, RARELY HAVE I HAD A PROBLEM . PROBLEMS THAT OCCURED WERE ALWAYS MINOR IN NATURE.
THE CAR IS NOW NINE YEARS OLD AND STILL RIDES ON THE ORIGINAL TIRES.THE CAR IS AS QUIET TODAY AS THE DAY I BOUGHT IT FIVE YEARS AGO.(ORIGINAL MUFFLER) THE CAR GETS 450 KM PRE TANK ALMOST EVERY TIME. TODAY THE CAR HAS 83 OOO KM ON IT, I THINK I'LL KEEP IT FOR ATLEAST TEN MORE YEARS OR MORE BECAUSE IT IS SO TROUBLE FREE. IT'S A GREAT CAR TO DRIVE AND IS VERY DEPEDABLE. I DROVE THIS CAR FROM VICTORIA TO PORT HARDY AND BACK IN ONE DAY,A DISTANCE OF OVER 900 KM . THE TRIP TOOK SEVENTEEN HOURS FROM START TO FINSH AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM , NOR DID I THINK I WOULD.

Weakness:

POOR WINDOW DEFROSTER

IF YOU NEED A CAR THAT WILL NOT CAUSE YOU HEADACHES AND WILL NOT EMPTY YOUR BANK ACCOUNT TO PURCHASE OR MAINTAIN THIS IS THE CAR FOR YOU.
