ENGINE, ENGINE, ENGINE consistently beat civics, accords, tercels, camrys, and anything with a 4cyl engine off the line. Fast, gotta be careful you don't realize how fast you are going. Handling is great...ENGINE, ENGINE, ENGINE!!!!
Weakness:
Power windows, a/c blower This is a great car, unfortunately I have to sell it to get a truck. But I will have a warm spot in my heart for this car. My parents bought it in 1991 and handed it down to me, my mom was so sad. Anyway, if you are considering a Protege of this era, consider this, the only problems with the car are the CV joints, make sure they are good when you buy it. I had a timing belt break on me at 75 miles an hour and all I had to do was replace it, engine still runs great, a toyota or honda and the engine would have been shot. Great car. and handles like a dream. Similar Products Used: None |

This car is AWFUL in the snow. Have owned Proteges since 1993 and all have been just fine in snow. This one is unbelievably unstable. I don't think it's the tires.....My sister bought identical car...Mine came with Toyos hers with something else....and we are both amazed at the poor performance in snow. Would highly recommend--except snow tires may be a necessity. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Sorry not an owner but test drove one recently. Car had only 34 miles so was definitely stiff and not broken in. Engine sounded good but not noticeably that powerful but once again, car wasn't broken in.
Weakness:
Still a small car and sort of rides like one. Right now you can basically get an ES Protege for about $13K w/o a sunroof. That's still a good value in my opinion. I wasn't that impressed with the ES but maybe it's because I didn't drive it enough or expected it to seem radically different than my '93 DX which it didn't at least initially. Still you really can't go wrong by buying a Protege, especially an ES. I don't know anyone who doesn't like them.....myself included. Similar Products Used: 1993 Protege DX. To me it didn't seem that much more impressive than my '93. But I loved my 93 Protege. |

Strength:
Its appearence, its aftermarket possibility, as well, its drivability. Its a nice small car to drive around in. Interior, big as hell!
Weakness:
Its transmission is weak (auto), as well, it lacks power. Maybe need larger sway bar, but frame itself its pretty stiff. Highly recommend it, but please get the manual transmission or else you'll totally beg for more power. But other than that, its all good. Similar Products Used: Civics - about the same. Seriously. |

It drives like a bat out of hell... (It is great)... Very big engine in small conpartmnet. Drives smooth and handles like a fighter jet.
Weakness:
A little small for a 6'9 300 lbs man... Stick is a little loose on shifting I would reccomend it for beginners and veteran of driving. It is very fuel economical I get 40+ mpg on highway... About 300-400 miles per tank. Good for student and pizza delivery vehicle. Would reccomend to anybody looking for there first car. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic |

cant think of any This is the first car that I have ever owned, and so far it has proved to me to be nothing but reliable. I recently drove to California and got 45 miles a gallon!!!! Thats unheard of for most smaller cars its size. Although its only a 1.8 liter I think it has ample power and always starts up just fine every day. I like very much how it handles on the road, its very quiet as well. Ive never had any problems with this car, and I would recommend this kind of car to those who value reliability and great gas mileage, and also to those that only need drive from home to work or school, great little car if you fit this criteria. The next one I hope to get if I can save enough will be a 2000 model, now that one looks really awesome!!! 118, 000 miles and still running strong. Similar Products Used: Toyota Corolla |
