Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

Mazda Millenia (1995 - 2003) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Mazda Millenia was launched in North America in 1995 and replaced the 929 as Mazda's flagship sedan offering. The Millenia is offered as a 4 door sedan with a 2.5-liter/170-hp DOHC V-6 or a supercharged 2.3-liter/210-hp DOHC V-6. It comes standard with a 4-speed automatic and ABS.

Having been developed for a separate audience from typical Mazda customers, the Millenia boasted a myriad of finer details. It was engineered to far greater levels of perceived quality than existing Mazda cars, such as interior plastic, panel gap and thicker paint coating.

Strength:

good looking, value for amounth paid.

Weakness:

parts are expensive and you must get a lot of things from dealer.

bought this car with 125K on it. Engien is strong, supercharger is strong, Check Engtine light is a problem on these cars. 02 sensor triggered mine but it was a $100 fix. For the money, this car is solid. I read a few reviews here about the engine and supercharger going, but again, I've had no problems with 125K miles.

Strength:

The car drives good & has a very nice look to it if its taken care of (like mine).

Weakness:

I think the car doesnt have enough power for a v6. And to find parts for this car is very hard. It's also very uncomfortable to work under the hood & especially to work on the sound system.

Something I DONT like about this car is that I'ts REAL HARD to find parts for the car. Especially because the car's audio came with "Bose", & "Bose" is made not to mess with. When I bought my car I didnt notice that the people that owned that car changed the "Bose" speakers, & took out the "Bose" amp. So now just to look for the right adapters and stuff to connect some new speakers & a c.d player is a mission.

Weakness:

TSC light expensive parts and repairs CV boots

I enjoy the rapid acceleration from the Turbo Charger and that's about it. The TCS light comes on when gears are shifted rapidly and the car stutters. No one seems to know why or how to fix it. The CV boots need replacing as well as the front rotors. The seats are not comfortable for long road trips.

Strength:

Wonderful ride, handling and fun to drive factor. Looks good in the driveway AND on the road.

Weakness:

Cooling system, transmission (jumpy/hesitant), gas mileage, parts availability, longevity of original equipment. Engine leaks oil alot, with no way to tighten up valve cover gaskets (rear bank) without engine disassembly.

I have owned this car for almost four years. The fact that it has no available parts outside of mazda dealers is the big obstacle to my ever buying another. I like to do my own work to save money, but cannot get parts other than through the dealer. Obviously the aftermarket parts industry took a major pass on Mazda. I have gotten 70K miles out of it since I bought it (at 63K)used. So far I have repaired/replaced the drive axles, cooling system (radiator and hoses, ALL OF THEM), brakes 2X, tires once, Fuel pump, O2 sensors, timing belt, headlight bulbs, spark plug wires...the list goes on. The seats have split (cheap thin leather), the button on the shifter keeps popping out, the on/off volume knob on the stereo is so loose it threatens to fall out (with no way to tighten it). The only Zoom Zoom this car makes is the sound of the money flying out of my bank account. But you know, whenever I get in it, and drive, it just feels great to be driving it. If someone at Mazda would just realize that customer satisfaction goes beyond driving fun. I would label this car the Triumph/MGA of the 90's

Strength:

Great looks in and out for a car in this price range.

Weakness:

See Quirks in the above summary.

MORE FAMILY CAR/ LESS ZOOM ZOOM! Bought car with 23,000 miles now has 43,200 miles Clearly a good looking car with a well crafted interior for its class this car is more of a family sedan than a sports car. The 2.5L engine is quiet but rather slow of the start. Once in fourth this car has more than enough cruising power for the highway. Their are some rather annoying quirks that take away from an otherwise good driving experience. Quirks---- Steering wheel slightly off center to the left requiring adjustment of front end. This seems to be a common concern even from consumers who purchased this model new. Sticky gas cap door. Easily fixed with a little lubricant but common complaint. Lumbar support control does not push lower half of front seat far enough into drivers back. Gas Pedal on the tight side. Transmision shifts a little rough when cold. This can be noticeable especially in the North Climate. Solution: Let your car warm up a few minutes.(Not a bad idea to also preserve the engine :-) Also some noticable transmission bumps when car is required to quickly down shift and then quickly accelerate. Gas millage not as good as expected for a 2.5 L 6 cylinder. Original equipment tires very expensive to replace. $177.00 to $200.00 each. NOTE: Research other alternatives. I replaced my tires with Cooper LifeLiner 93v series. Speed rating at 149 mi/hr. Tires were only 114 each. (This is not an endorsement for any individual tire just a suggestion to look around and do some research). You may be asking, "Why did he replace the OE tires so soon?" Answer: I asked the dealer why they looked so worn? He could not give me a straight answer. I liked the car overall and the price so I compromised on the tires. Back seat leg room: Ok for kids 1 - 12, but a bit on the tight side for adults. Cup holders a litte far back in the front console.

Unfortuntely some of the best things about this car are cosmetic like the good styling, great seating comfort, incredible Bose sound system, it looks great on the outside body integrity is great also the interior.

Weakness:

Expensive repairs and every area of the car will breakdown or malfunction, the engine, suspension, computer & electrical components, air conditioner, except the stereo.

I agree with the review of the gentleman written in February. I love my car but the constant problems and the enormous repair bills has deterred me from recommending Mazda to any of my friends and business acquaintances. Now the big problem!!!! The engine has to be replace. Two days after getting a rountine oil/filters changed and all fuel levels checked and wiper blade replaced my oil light came on and shortly after that the egine started to loose compression and an erratic noise from the engine became increasing louder. I was told by my mechanic that the miller booster component fell apart. How could this happen, no one seems to know! If only it ran the way it did the first year I had it.

the car looks great with a nice body and nice leather. very fast car. you can do a lot of physical upgrades to it.

Weakness:

expensive to keep and not realiable at all. A good car if you have money to waste.

The first reason I purchased this car was because some of my friends had it. I drove it and loved the attention that I got from the young ladies. I asked if they ever have major problems and they told me they did. Some said transmission, expensive parts, expensive maint...I had to change the crank shaft and tension pullies. engine and transmission mount, and maybe soon my trans will go out. This is my first real car and its eating my pockets. I feel like crying sometimes. I'm a student and the car is sometimes a distraction from school. I should have gotten a Toyota,Nissan maxima, or something realiable.

Strength:

Great looks, great comfort, quiet ride, excellent sounding stereo, ample power, great price

Weakness:

parts are pricy, fuel door does stick sometimes.

I made the decision to buy this car after reading a consumer reports magazine on used vehicle purchases. The reviews listed the vehicle as one of the best used vehicle purchases that you could get. Excellent handling, ample power, and great comfort. The article also said because the car has depreciated significantly that it was one of the most bang for your buck used cars out there. So far I have not been disatisfied. I opted for the less powerful p model because I read reviews where the supercharged engine had some problems. The 2.5L engine is more reliable, still has plenty of passing power, and goes way fast enough to break the law. Why would I need more? The stereo sounds great. Road noise is miniscule. The suspension all but eliminates jars and jolts. I enjoy this car. This is a luxury car, if I wanted super powered ridiculousness I would have gotten a mustang like the 2000 other soldiers that live around me. This brings up the final argument. I don't like looking like everyone else. This car's style is unique and beautiful. The fact that they dont make them anymore will just make it even more beautiful in my eyes because everyone and there mother isn't driving one.

Weakness:

Too many to go into detail, but the GAS MILEAGE is at the top of the list..the gas needle acts just like an hour glass, you can literally see the gas being consumed by the car via the gas needle

The Mazda Millenia is a great looking car, but it is hardly worth the fortune I paid for it. It just looks good that's about it! The gas mileage on this car is horrible, I commute daily about 50 miles, and I have to fill up my car every 2-3 days. The maintenance on this car is very expensive, especially tires ($200-$250 a piece), the brakes are expensive and the car has terrible performance, it's very sluggish..a V4 Honda Accord can smoke this car anyday. The car is very cramped, little to no leg room in the back..a 1-touch button for the sunroof would be nice, instead of holding it. And last but not least I hope when you buy this car you plan on keeping, it depreciates like a leaking faucet, and hopefully it will last you that long. The Millenia is a very bad purchase and it is way over priced..this car is not worth more than $17K brand new. Thank God they don't sell/make them anymore. This car will do some serious damage to your wallet. I have lost so much money dealing with this car. This car is like taking care of 5 kids.

Great style, ride and comfort for the money, Bose stereo, seating.

Weakness:

Repair parts take long to get, tires to replace are very expensive, I blew one out at 1100 miles and it was $255.00 and it took a week to get it in stock, no one in a city of 200,000 had one in stock, Depreciation is probably worse than some and maybe worse now that they are no longer sending them to the U.S.

This is the second Millenia I have had, I always thought they were great cars for the money,, great style, comfort. I have 30,000 on mine now, just had to put in an Oxygen Sensor under warranty, now have the exhaust problem going on. Shop says it is probably the Catalytic converter or the supercharger.Hope this will be the end of the problems.I really do like this car though and enjoy driving it. Mine has plenty of speed, cruises great at 75.
