Strength:

Styling, engine layout, moonroof, temp control, Homelink

Weakness:

Front cupholders (awkward and small), I hate that the doors don't auto lock when you start to drive, No trip computer.

I shall write another review in a year or so but these are my initial impressions of my silver Sonata LX V6 w/option package 7. I love the styling on this car. Since I got it I've had numerous people tell me that it looks like a Jag, Mercedes or BMW. They're all very surprised that its a Hyundai. The V6 engine isn't that powerful but its no slowpoke either - suits my everyday purposes just fine. Also, the car is as quiet as can be though I'm sure the ride could be a little bit smoother overall. I was fearful that the interior would look cheap but it doesn't - it looks great, even the leather. I love that the lights go off when you shut off the ignition. I have no big problems with this car - only minor annoyances, most of which probably just take some getting used to. I've never driven a foreign car before but so far, I'm very impressed.

Strength:

Lots of options for the money. Rides like a camery

Weakness:

Not a lot of power, small engine

I purchased the my Sonata used, it had 10,000 miles on it when bought it. The car still came with a 60k mile warranty(better than most others new car warranty). I love the car, it runs smooth. I purchased it used so I got a great deal on it. Car looks great, has sytle.

Strength:

Flawlessly manufactured compared to domestics, and as good as the models from Asia and Europe it competes against.Very plush features inside, better than its Japanese competitors at any price except high end models over 32,000.00. Very comfortable seats, soft ride, quiet, 25mpg hi way, and lots of room with many amenities, plus adequate power to pass quickly at upper end.

Weakness:

Could use 40 more HP to get 0-60 and 1/4 mile times down, nevertheless, its times are equal to competitor's similar V6's from Japan. No way to address complaints about its lack of snob appeal, but its cost is so low to begin with that complaint about resale value is moot. Remove head restraints on rear seats to get more rear viewing over large rear deck.

Top of line model w/TC & ABS & auto/manual shift & metalic silver 4DR is similar to son's BMW 2000 5 series V8 4DR in all but performance, and is 30,000.00 less expensive. Look, when you are 'older' you do not need to drive in passing lane any more.

Strength:

Comfortable. Easy to drive.

Weakness:

I have had many problems with my Hyundai Sonata (2001). The window mounts have broken 4 times, the back door lock broke once, the transmission went once, the radio had to be replaced due to an intermittent power problem, I have had to have two batteries replaced and the driver’s seat has had to be replaced. This car is 1 1/2 years old and only has 35000 miles on it. I am very unhappy with the quality of the work. These problems have been replaced for free but the time lost from work has been a burden.

Strength:

Looks, Sunroof, its quiet, runs smooth, still fits the family and everyone tells me it looks like a jag

Weakness:

I have not found any.

I fell in love with the Sonata, I was driving a Ford Windstar and I was ready to get out of the Mom-Mobile. My sonata has a lot of extras like the Sun Roof.

Strength:

styling and price......I guess you guess you do get what you pay for.

Weakness:

as i said above

My husband and I fell in love with 2002 sonata sleek style and still do. But there are definately some problems we've had. First the shift from 1 to 2 feels almost as though it shifts twice as though its confused as to which gear to shift to. And our brakes squeek when the car is first taken off. I've brought it into the dealer several times and still not resolved.

Strength:

Styling is great compared to other vehicles in the entry level midsize class/ ride comfort/ ergonomics bang for the buck/ V6 price vs other imports/ drivers view of the road/front and back.

Weakness:

Could use another 25 horsepower in the V6/ABS should be standard and not an expensive options

I saved a lot of money buying the V6 Sonata compared to the Camry or Altima V6. I'm very pleased with the styling and ride. It remains to be seen how reliable it'll be in the long run, but since it came with 5 yr bumper to bumper and 5 yr roadside assistance I should do OK

Looks. Warranty. Great car for the price.

Weakness:

Low end power.

I have only had this car for 3 weeks and I love it. Smooth ride, great styling. The warrranty is what made me consider Hyundai. I was originally looking at the Elantra but fell in love with the looks of the Sonata.

Strength:

Good looks, power, excellent ride and mine will out run a V6 automatic Accord. This car has a killer light system. The seats are fabric and after an 8 hour trip you get out of it feeling good. Overall average mileage is 31.2mpg.

Weakness:

None yet. If you are in a hurry use the tiptronic shift the standard automatic wont respond well off the line

I have driven many of the competitions cars. They are just as good but lack the price and warranty. If you are just cruising around town everthing is OK. If you need it to move forcefully slip it over to the tiptronic shift, it will not disapoint you as it transfers all of the torque to the wheels and shifts when you want it to like a clutchless four speed. My two sons have V6 5 speed Eclipse's, they will pull away from me while accelerating onto I75 but not by much until we reach 100mph then ...oh well I didn't buy a rocket launcher this is an in exspensive car for my wife. I love this thing it is powerfull, quiet, cheap, good looking , comfortable, cheap, smooth, cheap, good sound system, and a great Dealer with a very competent service department. The door would not lock and they checked every electric thing in it. The AC is very cold.I have 8000 miles on it and I am very happy with it. If you are going to buy one look for a great Dealer and then look at the car.
