Size, dependability, with studs it does very well on ice and snow, cuteness, FUEL ECONOMY IS AWESOME 350 miles/tank!!! Low maintenance, hyundai really cares about their cars, and takes good care of hyundai owners.
Weakness:
plastic compartments in front doors came out. A little gorilla glue and I was set. I'm 17, and I bought an elantra for my first car. I was recently in an accident, and the vehicle is totalled, but I would love to get another one. It is a perfect car for a high school or college student, it's just zippy enough, but not enough to get you into trouble, it's affordable, low maintenance, I got 32 average gas mileage, mostly city driving. I had the 5 speed manual and loved it! When I bought it it had 70,000 miles on it and it looked and drove like new. The exhaust manifold was cracked, but that was recalled, and other than a fuel system the previous owner never cleaned, the car was maintenance free. I absolutely love how Hyundai has cleaned up their act. 1999 is definitely a good year for elantras, and I would check into any model year older than that. By all means, get this car! It's economic, cute, small but not too small, (my 6' 7" bf is comfy in it) and an ideal car for a teenager. I didn't have a lot of money, and my parents were concerned about my buying an older, less-safe car. I could not afford a newer car, but the elantra fit the bill perfectly. It was newer, nicer, and had lower mileage than our 1998 altima or our big mpv, and for thousands less. My parents got peace of mind, I got the best car for my money. I definitely reccomend this car. |

PRICE! WARRANTY! VALUE! HP better than many others
Weakness:
mileage not that great I bought this elantra with 52,000 miles on it for only $4300. I had a budget of $5000 and the elantra had a very low resale value so i went ahead and purchased it. I couldn't be happier. I replaced the spark plugs and now it runs like new. The mileage (22/31) is nothing when compared to say the civic or corolla but it does have 140 hp which makes it even pretty even with celica gt, eclipse rs, and integra. The head room could be better but unless you are over 6 feet, you'll be fine. I am right now working on sleeper status for this car. |

Strength:
Standard features (power windows, power locks, keyless entry with alarm, a/c) Reliability A lot of power with the smooth shifting 5-speed (got it to 115 and it was still climbing when i backed off) Excellent in snow, standard 15" Michelin tires are a big plus.
Weakness:
Car seems to like to hydroplane. Stock audio system sucks. Has a recall that I am not too thrilled about, but the dealer is taking care of it. Compared to my Accent, this car is harder to work on and not as well laid out for maintenance. Putting speakers and a stereo in this car is a royal pain in the @$$. After my trusty 2002 Accent was involved in a 60mph barrel roll, I needed a new car. After my experience with the Accent and the fact that it saved my life in the accident, there was NO DOUBT that another Hyundai was in my future. I originally was going to get another Accent, but the sales rep at Moon Hyundai (Tom Trasport, same guy I bought my Accent from, AWESOME GUY) suggested the Elantra. I test drove it and it is eons above the Accent in smoothness, power, comfort, and features. I drove the 5-speed and bought a 5-speed and it is TIGHT. I can smoke a Civic like a cheap cigar with the 2.0 Base Tiburon engine under the hood. The car is very nice for hauling passengers or gear, it rides very smooth even on Pennsylvania's wonderful roads (for anyone who has never been here, a minefield is smoother), it is very good on gas with the 5-speed (I average about 28 with a mix of highway and city driving.) This car is great for me. I am 23 so I want something sporty that handles well, but within a few years I expect to have a little one, so the four door was a necessity. I got everything I wanted with this vehicle and expect it to last a very long time. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. Similar Products Used: 2002 Hyundai Accent. Great car, I miss it dearly. Reliable as hell, even off-roaded with it and it never left me stranded. In 42,000 miles, it was NEVER in the shop and it lived a hard but short life. Even after barrel rolling 3 times at 60mph, it started right up (the CHECK ENGINE light wasn't even on!) and drove like nothing was wrong with it! All I would have had to do was change the one flat tire and kick out the windshield, and I could have driven it home. Now THAT'S A DAMN GOOD CAR! 2002 Ford Focus. Rental car. Wanted to push it off of a cliff. Anyone who buys one needs to be beaten. I hate American cars and this is why. |

Radio sucks No problems whatsoever with this car. I drive 20 miles each way to work and back on the 405 in LA. Lots of stop and go. At 20,000 just had the transmission fluid replaced...probably from all the slow gridlock driving |

the leather on the seats had to be replaced and so did the floor mats. The dealer did that with no problem. Traded my 2002 Hyundai Elantra GLS for this car. I love this car, it is fun to drive. The dealer is excellant, they go out of their way to be helpful. Even tho there is a local dealer (less than 3 miles from us) and where I bought my first 2 hyundai's I prefer to drive 50 miles for superior service. We bought a 2003 Sonata from Lehigh Valley hyundai also Similar Products Used: Nissan sentra, honda civic, mazda protege |

Good ride, excellent value for money, excellent warranty package.
Weakness:
Auto gear shift could have been better This car is great value for the money. My intention was buy the cheaper Accent, but when I tried this car, I had no doubts about buying it. The ride quality is on par with most full size cars i.e. it's a softer ride. The handling is pretty good too. A little wind noise does creep into the cabin on windy days at the limit on freeways. I had to get the weather seals on the driver side front door upgraded due to the wind noise. This solved the problem and was covered by the warranty. The inside of the car is quite spacious. The cruise control works extremely well. The mileage is not the best; typically 25 mpg. I have notice on occasion that the automatic gear box tends to shift down easily when you press on the gas to accelerate quickly on the freeway - this tends to defeat the aim of speeding up - I have read about this behavior before. However for a daily commute to work, this car is the best. If I had a few more $$ I would have bought the GT which is fully loaded for just a couple of 1000s more. - dealership This car is absoutly great. Friend made fun of me for buying a Hyundai but are now bitting their toungs after a ride. The few complaints would be: notchy shifter (5spd) when cold, engine a little noisy when hi-speed crusing, slight over the shoulder blind spot, but I am picky. Good power, sporty ride and great equipment. Well done hyundai. Similar Products Used: - honda civic 1993 - chev lumina 1993 |

Interior finishes look cheap. Bought this car 2 months ago and my family loves it. My wife likes driving it and I also look for a chance to get it. My 17 year old daughter has her own car, but will probably get this when she learns to drive better. Great car and a great value. |
