Fastest 4 cyl. i''ve seen(after my truck). Good daily driver, stylish, reliable, easy to modify.
Weakness:
Overpriced, you don''t get what you pay for. Preludes are the best Hondas ever made (with the exception of the NSX because it wears an Acura badge). they are fast light and really cool looking. they are a killer daily driver too because they get good gas mileage and last a long time too. But here i am, the performance reviewer, saying you can get more for less. Why pay $25,000(!!!) for a Prelude when you can get a Supra, RX-7, or 300Zx for the same and maybe lower price? Now to those Honda lovers that say their Preludes destroy the above cars, quit deluding yourselves. Sure a Prelude might be able to hang with those even with some mods on, but when it comes to the big leagues, where are all the Preludes? There are none, because they can''t hang with the big boys. They could possibly be the most dominating of the 4 cylinders though. Similar Products Used: Supra, 3000GT, RX-7, 300ZX |

Suspension, silky smooth engine, and did I mention telepathic tranny? ATTS really works!
Weakness:
Styling. I think Honda could have done so much better. They went a bit too conservative/retroish on this one.. but it''s true, the care does grow on you. Great CAR!!! Well balance, does so many things well. Honda''s techno showcase car. And this being one of honda''s biggest 4 bangers, it''s actually got some torque. This car is definitely civilized, but, knows how to let loose! and play with the rest of the brat pack. Similar Products Used: 96 Eclipse Turbo, 91 Prelude, and 97 Miata |

- Rev happy 195HP engine w/ Auto. - Smoothest Trans I''ve encountered - Honda''s grade logic transmission REALLY works !! - Beautifully sculpted sheetmetal. - No feel of understeer in most cornering applications. HANDLES Fantastically - Ride is fair (due to stiff suspension)
Weakness:
- if you''re a 6''0", you may ''not'' like the lack of easy entry/exit. - Rear suspension components have a nice ''clunking'' sound everytime u pass a pothole/speedbump. (nothing can be done to remedy issue). - Rear bumper and body ''gap'' tends to increase w/ time. Needs adjustment w/ Honda service. - EXPENSIVE BODY KIT (front/rear spoiler and side sills) - Paid too much w/o negotiating price of vehicle. Wonderful high revving VTEC 2.0L Engine. Enough HP for most occasions. Don''t expect 4 people to fit in this car, only 2 + a baby seat or pet. Interior is modest and generic w/ Honda''s typical dash setup. No strings attached.. Prelude
Strength:
The car portrays almost no body roll yet isn''t harsh like the Integra''s. It feels firmly planted with plenty of feedback. As the driver you know exactly what the car is doing and how much more it can do. The motor is impressive too - silky smooth and a powerful rush at the top end. This mill loves playing lose to redline and makes some of the sweetest sounds this side of a motorcycle. Note: stay away from the automatic, this motor is built for the 5-spd. Honda''s quality shines through in the blend of performance, materials used, and the close tolerances used in putting it all together. This car is extremely well though-out, kudos to the designer! Oh yeah, the best headlights I have ever used.
Weakness:
Could use a bit more oomph right off the line (although a Jackson Supercharger wold surely fix that). Small interior, useless back seat. Trunk is tiny too, and suspension bits intrude on the space limiting the usefulness of folding down the rear seat. Great car! Where this car shines in the combination of comfort and performance. Although it lacks many of options like heated seats and digital dash and automatic temp control, it shines on ergonomics and basic utilities. Stereo is good and doesn''t warrant an upgrade unless you like to annoy the cars around you. In terms of handling, Motortrend voted this the best-handling car less than $30k. Unlike the musclecars (camaros/firebirds/mustangs) their is no geartooth whine or grind, and the build quality is topnotch. I had this car 20,000 miles and only did oil changes. I sold it because it doesn''t do well in snow and I have moved to the mountains. If only Honda made an AWD Prelude! DOHC VTEC 190+ HP Everybody wouldn''t mind having this engine in their civics, integras, crx, del sol, etc. You''ll be quick if u did.
Weakness:
Weight = approx. 3000lbs. Love this car. Although it is heavy you, u can''t say it doesn''t look nice. If look at the car from the front view it look like it has a wide bodykit. And I just love the engine. DOHC VTEC 190+ HP One of the strongest Honda engines. Fast car great handling. I wouldn''t bust sharp corners with it though. My car is too precious to lose over trying to drift or something. Max Speed is ok topping out at 140. This model can beat the 97 and up models freeway racing. It all depends on your experience. I did. Similar Products Used: None |

Good power for a four cylinder, great handling even better with upgrade on tires and suspension. Nice looking, and reliable.
Weakness:
Insurance, low end torque, bump it up to a V6 and 50 more Hp and it would rock. I bought this car used with 43,500 km on it. It has been an awesome time ever since, its not the fastest car on the road, it''s not the best looking, but ut has the perfect blend of power and handling. I have had one bad incident in which my car was broken into and some contents were stolen, but thats about it. I have had it up to 235 km (144mph) per hour with two other guys with me(Yes that was stupid and dangerous) but it felt in control. Great car and great years to come. I almost forgot, to anyone who likes to put down the prelude because of it''s lack of big time power and torque, shut up. This is not a straight line quarter mile car, it''s a combination of handling, class and good power. I hate the guys with Mustangs And Camaros who put down the Lude, You know that we can out handle any of your tanks bone stock. So I politely say love your car for now, because you will be buying a new one in a couple of years after they break down. Later! One last thing: The last time I left a review I said I was going to race my buddies Talon TSI, I lost by two car lengths up to 85 mph, he smoked me off the line with his AWD, I had a sh#t start also but I was gaining very slowly after 60 mph, he told me if we were on the highway I would have beat him, well I dont race as much as when I first got the car! Have Fun, Luders! Similar Products Used: Integra Type R - Very nice track car, - Excellent all around Pontiac Grand Prix Gtp - A car I can fit in better, fast on the highway. (Im 6''5" and barely fit in my lude. (I know it' |

The stock stereo was not all that great... but who freaking cares. And to that idiot who posted about his SS, we should get together and drag. I will destroy your car, I have beat them on a daily basis at the local drag strip. Even tricked out ,blown, racing SS''''s. The year does not matter. No amercian built car will ever be able to hold a candle to ANY japanese car. GM is a very poor company and their power train team should be shot. Any engine with an output of under 90/hp liter should not be aloud on the road. In a few years I doubt we are going to be seing very many JDM cars with under 100/hp liter. The Honda S2000 is a 240 hp 2 liter beast that will shred your SS... I bought the car initially as a gas saver that had a little bit of get up and go.... it did not stay that way for very long. The car is amazing. The Si uses the H23A non vtec engine but converting it over to a H22A head is actually very easy. I would reccomend it. I did the conversion then built up the internals. Right now the engine has a Crower 4340 stroker crank (Profiled and lightened...) with Paeco Titanium connecting rods, JE pistons, Peaco Titanium wrist pins, arp studs n'''' blots, and finally Total Seal piston rings, with some JUN cams and an almost all Titanium valve assembly. To top it all of I put in a Turbo kit with intercooler about 5 months ago. Everything elses is built up also.... This is a stealth killer. I honestly have not come up against any car that can even hang with me. And it is as reliable as ever. Hondas have the best engines period. The car has over 175,000 miles on the body and about 35,000 since I rebuilt the engine. It looks like it did the day it was new. No rust on it. I live in Wisconsin and car up here rust very quickly. The ride and the suspension is amazing, I test drove an M3 and my car feels more solid on the road. Simply put the preludes are amazing. It is a shame honda decided to pull the plug... *sniff* *sniff* oh yea... as for any dyno runs and time slips email me. Similar Products Used: Camero SS, and Ford 5.slow, 2001 BMW M3 |

Strength:
Smooth, powerful engine Fast w/good acceleration Very good handling Good fuel economy Very solid build Huge trunk Reliable
Weakness:
Hydraulic clutch cylinder poorly placed; seals fail due to heat Dents/scratches very easily Headroom Driving position; mediorcre seats and needs a telescoping wheel Engine gets hot in traffic Possibly finicky in heat I was fortunate to find in June of ''98 a new ''97 Prelude that, due to a substantial amount of upgrades, was priced out of its market and never sold. The original sticker was well over $30K, but I was able to negotiate around $19K -- GREAT deal. The car has proven to be, by-and-large, a winner. With the factory Honda air dam, spoiler and and ground effects, the car looks aggressive without looking too disco-ed out. The engine is excellent, smooth, quiet and extremely powerful given its small displacement. As a result, the acceleration is great, especially once you learn to keep it between 4,000-7,000 rpm. Despite the power, the fuel economy is pretty good; I usually get 20+. The car is surprisingly beefy. It''s solid, silent and feels substantial. The fit and finish is excellent. The handling, while a bit soft, is more than adaquate for almost any situation -- just lose the miserable OEM tires. Do I have any complaints? A few. For one thing, the headroom is very limited -- if you are taller than 6''1"-6''2," do NOT buy this car. For the first few months, I found the seats very uncomfortable, and the steering wheel is too far from the driver; the driving position could be much better. The rear and side visability is not great, either. The car has no body molding and as a result collects door dents and scratches on a daily basis. My paint has begun to fade a bit from the sun as well. The engine is good, but I''ve found that it has a tendency to get very hot in traffic. During the summer, it nearly overheats almost every day. In general, I''ve found that this car doesn''t like heat; it just doesn''t seem to run as well on hot, humid days. The hydraulic clutch cylinder is poorly placed. It gets very hot, which kills the seals. I had to replace the cylinder with less than 50K on the car. Finally, the stereo sounds good only when loud. At less than half volume, your grandma''s AM radio sounds better. Overall, though, it''s a good car. It''s fun, it''s fast, it''s reliable and it''s very practical -- tons of legroom, fold-down rear and a huge trunk. And since they don''t seem to sell well, good deals should be available. Not perfect, but hard to beat all-around.n Similar Products Used: Acura Integra˜ |
