Model Reviewed: Oldsmobile Intrigue GL

Strength:

Great engine and transmission, nice exterior styling, handsome two-tone interior styling, great paint job, lots of standard options on the GL, ride quality is very satisfying. The dual zone, automatic air condition works well.

Weakness:

Exterior assembly quality is lacking, but you will only notice if you are a perfectionist. One interior panel under the steering wheel doesn't fit properly. Don't care for radio sound, but the CD player sounds great.

A smooth, powerful engine, great mountain handling, and fine suspension make for a fine driving experience. I live in rugged mountain terrain, and the car feels stable and secure on winding highways (no tire squeal). I love the styling, both interior and exterior; it has more pizzaz that some of the imports (except Passat). The two tone interior is pleasing to the eye, and most of the materials have a quality feel. The sophisticated-feeling engine and transmission seem to improve after 500 miles. I hate arriving at my destintion; I just want to keep driving. Since Oldsmobile is winding down now, you can get a $2000 factory rebate and 5 year/60,000 mile warranty. I think it is a great buy with these incentives.

Buy the Intrigue if your priorities are styling, driving and handling. Don't buy it if you expect perfection in assembly (although paint is very nice).

Similar Products Used:

Honda Accord V6 - Great build quality, but lacks excitment. I don't care for the pronounced center dash design. The Honda does feel lighter than the Intrigue.
1.8 liter Passat - A fantastic car, wonderful styling, a great ride. The four cylinder engine is not as smooth and powerful as the Intrigue. The six cylinder is matches well, but that will drive the price up way beyond the Intrigue.
Nissan Maxima - Wonderful V6 engine, great handling and ride, but it is too expensive. The interior design, while interesting, feels a bit cold.

Model Reviewed: LX Coupe

Strength:

Reliability, sportier look than the sedan, which i think is too boring. Fairly good gas mileage (or I should say great compared to my Dodge Durango)

Weakness:

The only problem I had was the power window on the passenger side broke and I was 1400 miles past the warranty, but they honored it anyway!

This was a great car and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a car that is very reliable. We took it on the road and drove it to work everyday and had no major repairs, and the biggest shock for me was I didn't have to replace the CV joints (which I had to fix numerous times on my 1988 Accord LXI.) This car was a lease, and I sadly have to turn it in next month because it is too hard with a car seat in a 2-door car, but I will be sorry to see it go.

Similar Products Used:

1988 Honda Accord LXI - Beautiful car, no problems until 75k miles, then started with all kinds of problems, power window on drivers side stopped working, couldn't turn off the windshield wipers, transmission probs, power steering fluid leaking, etc. but I was able to drive it fixing some of these problems up to 125k miles, then i sold it. Also, had to change the CV joints many times (due to poor quality or bad streets in New Orleans, who knows?)

Strength:

Nothing : Accords suck ! The coupe is so small and sweet I felt like a woman . The fake dual exhaust looks rusted or none functional!

Weakness:

First of all the V6 sucks ! I constantly get beat by Grand Am GT's and Civic SI's . The inside is ugly!!!!!! The ugly radio points up at everyone
in the car. I can't fit a CD in the glove department. There are other cars
with less horse power and the same torque that will school this car!!!

I now have a 2001 Grand AM GT1 with V rated tires and a functional dual exhaust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can tell you right know that the Accord
is a work of art and it's maker must have been tired! Ugly...... !
It's a fat heavy car 3,300 pounds??? It rolls like a ball and brakes better
than it drives . Buyers Beware . The Civic should take the accords spot !
Get a Grand AM GT and take control! Peace

This car compares to nothing. Just like all foriegn cars it needs a manual
to beat American automatics ? Why does Honda put H rated tires on this car ? I guess they knew that the Accord V6 would discourage it's drivers
from going to fast !

Strength:

Smooth, travels at 90mph without a problem. Comfortable seating for four. Lots of trunk space.

Weakness:

Drivers side mirror vibrates at 75mph and above. Dealer replaced it, helped it some. I think its a design flaw.
A real silver color not avaible in the EX-V6. =(

Great car, awesome resale value. Problem is that you will not be the only one on the block with one. They are very popular.

Strength:

I'm not an accord coupe owner (I was going to buy one but decided on the prelude instead)...By the way buddy, (GT) you are full of crap about accord coupes and how they suck. You probably can't beat P.O.S. american Grand am GT's because you simply suck S#*T at driving. The accord coupe is almost as fast as my prelude...therefore you are saying that a Grand am GT's could beat me in a race...Bull S**T! In fact, I've dragged 2 GT's and have LITERALLY blew the SNOUGHT out of them...They think that their fake dual exhaust and auto tranny will take a prelude..no way man

Weakness:

As for the accord, I didn't buy it because it was too much of a family car. The V6 model didn't come with the stick...I don't like AUTO-MAGIC transmissions (it takes the fun out of driving).

I would recommend buying the accord coupe...EXCELLENT build quality, smooth, quiet, refined, exceptional value, smooth v6.

Simply put, Grand am GT's are so bad that they don't can't even fall in the same category as an accord coupe...world's apart!

Oh yeah, by the way, The dual exhaust IS functional on the v6 coupe!

If you have a grand am gt and think you can beat an accord v6 coupe, contact me...I have a buddy who owns an accord coupe...he'll take the challenge..and will savour an easy victory.

Model Reviewed: Accord EX 2.2VTEC

Strength:

Looks good. Ultra-reliable, interior functions well.

Weakness:

Snore. Uninspired handling. I've driven worse, but this isn't exactly a prelude. Far too nose-heavy. The 4 cylinder engine has no torque. I have the manual tranny too. Too much body roll.

I think this makes an excellent car for an adult (commuter) but its kinda bland compared to other cars. Being 17 myself i guess would have something to do with my opinion of the car. I took off that dumb resonator and snorkel for the air intake. Big difference, when i hit VTEC in 1st and 2nd, i can actually feel it now. Makes a nice low purr too. Also added a MOMO competition shift knob and a B&M short shift kit, makes a big difference, shifting is gate-like, feels great. Blue bulbs, look good from the outside if not riceboy, but in terms of what it throws on the road, its terrible, i'd go back to the stock ones if i hadn't broken them taking them out. Added a strut tower bar, tires don't spin nearly as much when accelerating in a turn from a full stop.

Toyota Camry -WAAAY better peroforming car, the 2000 Toyota Camry XLEV6 beats the hell out of the V6 Accord, Im trading mine in. Ive tested both, my friend has a V6 Camry and the accord in NO WAY competes with the Camry, Boy that 1Mj-ZE engine in the Camry REALLY kicks ass off the line, icve borrowed his car and beat several V6 NEW accords off the line and on the freeway. the accord does have slightly better handling though

Strength:

Tons of power for a family car, good amount of room, great stock stereo.

Weakness:

first is geared too high, takes a lot of gas to get going, also gives it a bad ultra low end power curve (3-10 mph) seatbelt indicator went out after about 4 months (not a big problem)

if you are looking for a midrange family car, but you still want something that can screech the tires, this is a good one.

Model Reviewed: Accord Coupe

Strength:

Nice styling, very comfortable and spacious, more powerful than some competitors.

Weakness:

The front of the car looks too much like the sedan.

The redesigned Honda Accord Coupe looks great and performs nicely with its 150 hp VTEC engine. You can also get it with a 200 hp V6 engine. It handles well and the suspension is firm for good cornering, but also provides for a smooth ride.
The coupe has a lot of passenger and storage space. It is a very practical car which can also be fun to drive. With a 6300 rpm redline, the engine is willing to rev and cruise at high speeds. The ergonomics inside are excellent and so is the ride comfort. The styling is much more sporty than the sedan and looks great with a rear spoiler and alloy wheels.
Better brakes w/ ABS in the LX and a bit more horsepower wouldn't hurt, but overall, this is a great car for any driver.
