Model Reviewed: Accord 6 cyl

Strength:

Really appreciate the 6 cyl after previously owning two Accords and one Civic. Big difference from the 4 cyl. I wish they would offer the v-6 in manual, but they don''t want to compete w/their Acura line.

Weakness:

Fickle with the brand of gas. Honda recommends Chevron, but I tried using many cheaper brands and every time the engine light comes on due to carbon deposits from the engire misfiring. The Honda dealer charges $80 to reset the engine light and run engine cleaner thru--better to stick w/name brand gas. Minor weaknesses-overall VERY pleased! Leather on the seats seems thin versus other cars with leather interior

I bought this 97 6 cyl Accord in 1999 with 41k miles and currently have 161k miles 2-1/2 yrs later.

Strength:

Good looks, very reliable, great resale value.Very solid on the road & pleasant& comfortable to drive.

Weakness:

Emission control system. Check engine light goes on & off intermittantly. Cost $75 to learn it''s common problem.Honda just extended the emission control warranty because this problem is common. Moonroof rattles unless lubed with special Honda grease as needed.Takes 10+ minutes ifyou want to fill last 1-2 gals. of gas. Alloy wheels protrude a bit.I found out the hard way the first time I went to a car wash.Had the radio-CD unit replaced 3x.The fuel gauge senders twice. Overpriced fog light option . should be standard equip. like most other cars.Cheapo mudguards. Should be like Solaras with matching body paint.Trim should be better grade.Did they really have to put fuzzy felt on the rear of the seat bottoms instead of another 3 inches of vinyl?

Looks good. Sporty.Very smooth engine with good power.Fit & finish & build quality Disappointingly lower grade then my 86 LX. with obvious corner cutting.Excellent road ride & handling Would be even better with stickier tires.Aftermarket upper strut tower bar tightened up chassis with much better handling on curves .Got 1 piece bar from Neuspeed. Annoying plastic rattles on occasion.Moon roof seals must be lubed with special Honda "shinetsu" lube to prevent creaks & rattles [right over your head].I learned this after app. 11 trips to the dealers, and with various part replacements.Spoiler helps appearance.Rear quarter panels behind tires are bulbous and detract from the car''s otherwise pleasant styling.

Strength:

Nice size, roomy interior, fabulous trunk space, great gadgets....and gas milage

Weakness:

Have not found any yet.

I am very pleased with this car so far. We traded in a 98 Chevy Malibu and lost a bundle due to the low trade in value, but I have not regretted it for a minute. This car is roomy, has an enormous trunk, child safety features and best of all...........it actually stops when I apply the brakes.....a concept lost on the Malibu!! You pay more for the Honda''s, but it is certainly worth the extra $ to know your family is safe.

Model Reviewed: Accord EX V-L Coupe

Strength:

Smooth, smooth, smooth engine. Good acceleration. VERY comfortable, and has lots of equipment, especially for the price. I also think the car is very nice looking, especially the taillights and 16 in. rims.

Weakness:

No manual. Would be LOTS more fun with a 5 speed. Doesn''t handle as well as my Prelude, could be more involving on a twisty road. No carpet on lower door panels mean lots of scuff marks that I can''t get out. Wish it had xenon headlamps and a more powerful stereo. Finally, it has more rattles than I''ve been accustomed to in Hondas. Since this is the first American made Honda I''ve owned, I can only conclude that the Japanese ones are better built.

5th Honda I''ve bought, and I like it the best of all of them, including my previous car, which was a ''94 Prelude Si

Strength:

Reliability, Reliability, Reliability. Low maintenance costs.

Weakness:

Radio never was strong. Weak reception area. Price somewhat high when new.

Best Car I''ve ever owned. Recently purchased a pre-owned 2000 Accord LX due to the reliability of the 1990 Accord. The ''90 has 310,000 miles on it. Never had a part replaced (except brakes, tires and the original key''s teeth wore down). Still using the original plugs and wires, etc. Never had a tune up. I have a pretty bad record on oil changes -- don''t remember for 10 to 15K miles. However, this car never skipped a beat. Power rear windows are inop now -- but not bad for 11 years and 310K miles. Still has the original freon in the A/C and it still cools the vehicle. All power equipment works (except rear windows). Never replaced a light (headlamp taillamp or interior light)

Strength:

Smooth reliable engine, good gas mileage.

Weakness:

I have a rust hole in my rear wheel well and it''s hideous. Honda rust warranty is 5 years and even though my car started rusting inside 5 years (evidence - BIG HOLE IN MY CAR), I didn''t officially report it to American Honda until 6 years. Result: I''m stuck with a rust-bucket that runs well - bye-bye resale value. Also, the electrical has had fits since about 35K - stereo, cigarette lighter and signal relay all shot inside 50K miles. I have a Camry and I like it MUCH better.

116,000 miles and still runs as well as it did with half the mileage...too bad the body started rusting at 60,000 miles.

Strength:

Quality, reliability, durability...bulletproof. Strong engine for a 4 cylinder...stronger than most domestic v6s that i''''ve pulled away from at the stoplights. gas mileage around 32 mpg which is excellent.

Weakness:

drivers side door started making a noise at 80k miles but i tightened some bolts on the door and it stopped. stereo isn''''t that great...in fact my old 89 accord lxi had a much better stereo. wound up getting a new system at a stereo shop.

this is my 10th honda and i don''''t think i''''ll ever stray away from the quality of this brand. it''''s a 94 honda accord ex sedan with 5spd which is our 2nd car (we also own a 2001 civic ex sedan and i kept my old car a 1988 crx hf with 305,000 miles on it).

Model Reviewed: Accord LX-V6 Coupe (San Marino Red)

Strength:

RELIABILITY, Acceleration with the 3.0 VTEC, comfort, interior ergonomics, exterior styling, handling, great suspension balance between handling and comfort

Weakness:

back seat is pretty tiny, not too many features/ammenities on the LX V6 model (had to add a sunroof and CD player), no manual available on the V6 engine, crappy stock tires

The car is by far the best I''ve ever owned. It is extremely comfortable around town, and the very supportive cloth seats never bother my back even during 5 to 6 hour drives on the highway. This car has been driven for 70,000 hard miles in under 2 years and it is better than new. My girlfriend''s 95 Dodge Stratus has only 40k miles and buzzes and vibrates and sounds like it must thave 4 times as many miles as my Accord does. When you step on it, the car really responds. It easily has the best handling of any mid size car in its price range. The interior is also very classy, extremely well thought and laid out. A spoiler does wonders for the coupe''s appearance! Also, get some nice tires - amazing what the suspension and chassis can do once the horrible Michelins are off and a nice set of Dunlop SP9000s are on. Traded her in for a ''02 Acura RSX and was truly sad to see her go.

I bought this car brand new from the dealer and paid $100 dollars over invoice for it. You can''t go wrong with this car it is amazing. I''ve put on Borla exhaust, and AEM Cold air intake, Much better value over the 4cyl accord, there is alot more power and its much more refined and for you people who paid as much for you 4 banger as i did for my brand new V6 with 14 miles on it then haha to you!!

Strength:

Impeccable quality, strong and clear stereo, strong and agressive four cylinder.

Weakness:

Typical Honda problems of idle and harsh transmission.

This is my first car and fits it''s role well. It''s very nicely equipped with all factory options except Leather, which would be nice. I had wanted a 1993 Accord SE with the leather and the Bose stereo, but this is sufficient.
