Steering is great. Seats are supportive. Very peppy 5 speed. Can whip even my bad a** Honda CRX. Shifts smooth as butter/ Very forgiving transmission. I often forget to shift. The car doesn't care! My Honda stalls if you start out in any gear but 1st. My Focus can start out in third with out a problem, which is good so you can save yourself the embarassment of looking like a beginner in your mommies car!!
Weakness:
None My car absolutely rocks!! Don't listen to the bad reviews!! I have not had one problem with my Focus. The handling is crisp and the acceleration is fast. The seats are so comfy, especially compared to my Honda CRX. A lot of head room!! Similar Products Used: 1991 Honda CRX, 1999 Ford Explorer |

Weakness:
It's a Ford (Found on Road Dead) This is the worst car I have ever owned. When I bought it new, it was great for a year. At 26000 miles, the front tires had to be replaced because they were cupped. I can only buy low profile and the car DOES NOT handle in the winter. Then te back passenger door broke on it and had to be fixed a month ago. Then the back tires are worn at 35,000 miles. I also had to have the PFE sensor replaced. Similar Products Used: 1988 Plymouth Sundance |

I paid $11,500 who can complain. It is alot of fun and very practical.
Weakness:
The milage is less than hoped for. It is a small car, that I drive at high speeds. I hear you save money on a closed casket funeral. After reading the other writers reviews of the Focus I had to check to make sure I wasn't in the wrong section. In short, I love this car. It is a blast to drive and is inexpensive to maintain. I find it highly maneuverable in the city and plenty fast on the hiway. So here is my helpful hint. Before you buy a car off the lot check the build date. Don't buy one made on a Monday or a Friday. My Wednesday car rocks! Similar Products Used: Honda Civic, Ford Escort, Honda CRX,BMW 525 |

Focus ZX3
Strength:
Ride, handling, seats, interior controls, value, good interior space, lots of aftermarket accessories available, good lighting. Just a nice, fun to drive car.
Weakness:
OE Firestone Firehawks are horrible in the wet (rentals both had Pirelli P6s -- much better); 3-door has a bit of a blind-spot over the driver's shoulder that isn't there in the other models; smaller cargo area than the Escort GT it replaced; only fixed time interval for front w/wipers (easily remedied by fitting 6-spd intermittent w/w switch from wagon model for <$30, though), 2002MY Focus ZX3 w/42K miles on it; 2.0L Zetec/manual trans. No major problems to date. Gas, oil, rotate the tires and that's it. 2 visits to dealer for warranty work: 1] loose water pump pulley bolts causing a knocking noise (pulley wobbling); 2] slight hesitation during medium to hard acceleration -- dealer replace IAC motor, but as far as I'm concerned it's not fixed. Also not big enough of an issue for me to return and fight to have them look at it again. Most likely some sort of ECU programming issue. Steers and drives great; no squeaks/rattles; decent fuel mileage (30-31mpg -- mostly highway, 65-75mph). I would, and have recommended the Focus to anyone who asks. Have driven 2 2004MY rental cars with the new, 2.3L PZEV engine/auto trans and the engine is a nice, noticable improvement in power delivery, smoothness, and fuel economy. Everything - Ranging from the comfort to the driving capability. It handles roads really well, and I can take it round sharp bends at 60mph! Interior is well finished, ranging from luxury leather interior, to beautifully finished off wood effect.
Weakness:
There is none. The Ford Focus is a fantastic car and I would never buy anything else. I come from England, and the problems you guys have with the Ford Focus in America, is nothing like what we experience over here. They are Englands top best sellers, and most reliable car on the road. I have taken long journeys, short journeys, and the car has proven to be the most comfatable car I have ever experienced. It is very egonomical on the fuel, and so far (touch wood!) I have never had any serious problems with it. I WOULD NEVER SETTLE FOR ANYTHING ELSE!!! Strength:
It is roomy and has some pep. The CD/radio is great. It's not too bad to change your own oil. Good headroom and you get great vision. The steering wheel is thick and can give one the feeling of greater control.
Weakness:
This car has the worst trade-in value! The market is flooded with former rentals and private party sellers are almost giving them away! The brakes are very poor! The brake dust will cover your front rims. Had to get new rotors at 35k miles. I don't understand how Ford could knowingly pass on the inferior braking system to the public? They've been building cars for a hundred years, right? You'd think that the braking system is elementary. The gas mileage is poor! It's not as well as one would expect for a car this size. The trunk looks large but the opening is tight and you cannot maximize the space! You cannot fit an average size cooler in it when going to the beach. The black cloth seats have already faded. The LCD mileage instrument cluster has stained. The driver right arm rest-storage compartment is not solidly set and has broken. It's very laborous to drive for trips over an hour long. It's not very comfortable after the new car novelty wears off. You will get very tired driving this uncomfortable car. The windshield gasket is loose and is off its track at the top. I had to make a spare key and the dealer nailed me for $90. Don't lose that key! The doors lock automatically once closed and it's very annoying! The tires are more expensive to replace than other models in its class. They are an odd size. It takes 5W20 motor oil to enhance its mileage rating. I haven't noticed a difference! I bought the car with 12k miles from the dealer in 2002. It was a former rental. I was upside down on my trade and this was the newest vehicle I thought I could get for what I wanted to pay monthly. In other words, I did not go out intending to buy this car and knew nothing about its recall history. Although the salesperson did not use any pressure tatics to get me to commit to buying the car I wish I would have gone home to research it beforehand! Although the car has not left me stranded on the road, I was very disappointed with the quality when comparing it to my wife's Nissan Sentra. If you can help it you should not even consider this car! I understand that Ford has since extended its warranty for the Focus to help boost sales. I suppose its the only car a dealer will work with you if you are trading in a trade you are up-side down in since the dealer probably paid far below trade-in value for it. This is an update to my last review. Not only does the windshield STILL have an air leak, the brakes squeak, faulty radio, and problems getting into reverse, but now the ENGINE LIGHT is on. The fuel cap and filler neck had to be replaced. DO NOT buy this car!! |

Did okay on snow and ice.
Weakness:
Weak plastic body, too many defects and recalls to list. This car is terrible. It has been to the repair shop more than any other cars I have owned combined. The windshield has an air leak, and has been replaced twice and resealed twice. The problem still REMAINS! The brakes are incessantly squeaky, and I was told that it was condusive with the car. Sometimes I have problems shifting into Reverse and the radio has been replaced also. I will never buy another Ford, and I am really dissapointed in my supposed Brand New Car. I am currently persuing the LEMON LAW. These cars need to go back to the designing table and start again. I can't beleive Ford would promote and sell a shoddy product like the FOCUS. They tried to copy the Jetta and FAILED miserably. I just want Ford to repurchase this low-quality piece of garbage.
