Strength:

radio, and speed is okay

Weakness:

its breaking down to quick

I was happy with it untill it started to make a wired noise, when the car was in parked. We took it in twice and they couldnt figure anything out. Well now the noise is gone, but now when you gas the car it jerks really bad like if it wants to kill off. We only had the car for 3months and its breaking down. I think this car should be made better.

Strength:

have had no trouble with the motor yet

Weakness:

i really think there are major problems with the front end on these cars

i have had trouble from the engine light to the front end. the front end had to be aligned and at that time i found out i need a left strut. by this time my tires were worn out. i had to get another alignment, a strut and a new set of tires. now i need a another set of tires because now i find out that the front end is out of alignment again and now i also need a lower control arm........i had to replace the condenser because it got a hole in it....how about ford just redoing this car...oh yea had 4 recalls on the car at one time....(4)...i think they should trade all of these out and maybe the 2003 and up are better

Million s(named in summary)

I have had nothing but problems with this car, since the day I bought it. I do not think that I could name everything that has gone wrong with it but I will try: check engine light goes on periodically, the brakes squeak in the rain, I had to have a "lock cylyneer" replaced six months after I bought it along with towing and inconvinence cost $300. The tires are terribley worn and had to be replaced very soon after I bought it, the radio turn off for no reason, the trunk does not close properly, the gas gauge sometimes reads EMPTY when in fact it is full, many others I cannot remember. I HATE this car and cannot wait until the day that I buy a new one. But it has depreciated in value so much that It would be impossible for me to sell it now without loosing a lot of money. Terrible, Terrible car.

Strength:

none anymore!

Weakness:

all of them!!

Real nice at first, but after a while the tire on the back on the driver's side started to rub up against the plastic. I took it several times to the dealer and they kept saying nothing was wrong. It got to the point where they looked at me like I was crazy. Finally after three months, they noticed it too. After about a year and a half, the car would all of a sudden stall, all the lights in the dash would turn on, it would say I was going at 140mph, the tank was full, the radio would turn off, all within 10 seconds, and then the car would go on its normal self. When I took to the dealership several times, they kept saying that nothing was wrong. Though it has stopped doing this, it was never actually fixed. Just recently while driving on the freeway they engine fell off!!! Apparently the screws that hold up the engine were loose. I'm still dealing with this right now.

Strength:

Style, roomyness, cargo room, comfort of driving, and sporty handling.

Weakness:

MAJOR QUALITY CONTROL PROBLEM. I love the car, but may not buy another Ford because of all the problems I have had with this one.

I enjoy the ride, but I have serious doughts about the quality of my car. I have spontainiously broken down at least a dozen times over the past 3 years, some times the car seems to fix itself and get on its way though. Havn't figured that one out yet... Have replaced the alternator 2 times, so this is the 3rd one now. (waranty) A few recalls as well, and after one recall maintanence, I can hear a high pitch noise comming from around the right rear wheel area when driving. Both of my seat lever's broke, you know the ones used to clime into the back seat of a 2 door car. Other thant those things, its a nice car.

Strength:

the 2000 focus is a cute little car

Weakness:

road noise, cheap made, no tilt or cruise control

The car seemed okay on the designated test route but after purchasing the car I noticed how you could feel every bump in the highway. I was concerned that it might bounce right off of the road. No tilt or cruise was also a big negative as well as the road noise. After talking talking to a couple of friends that had owned the same make and model an hearing all about the problems, recalls and breakdowns I returned the car to the dealership and began looking for something else.

Strength:

Plenty of head room Handles ok

Weakness:

Needs to go into the shop way to often.

Was good at first bought used with 6000 Miles on it it is now at 32000 and I have had to replace the Driver seat, im told now i need a new clutch the brakes have been replaced 3 times . I have never had so much trouble with a car. I would not recommmend this car. I will never but a ford again. Cost more to maintain it than the car cost. The dealership wants 800 to replace the clutch.

Strength:

The overall handling is great. it is a very comfortable car for long distance driving as well. My wife & I did a trip up to southern Oregon & back through Lake Tahoe to L.A with no drama at all. The stereo is very good for a car in this price range. You can load an amazing amount of stuff with the back seat folded. we recently fit a papasan chair in there! The 2 litre Zetec engine gets the job done with plenty of passing power on the freeway. It's a sleek looking car, Especially when compared to the Toyota Matrix & Pontiac Vibe which look too busy. The head room is excellent & back leg room is never a problem. Good looking wheel & tyre package as well.

Weakness:

Very scarey build quality for the 2000 & 2001 models. A real lucky dip for consumers. Thankfully I haven't had to deal with the stalling & transmission nightmares of other buyers. The brakes are a big worry. The service guys didn't think that the air flow was sufficient over the rotors to cool them, as well as them being too thin. Creaks & groans. I haven't met a Focus owner yet who gets within 5 miles of the posted fuel economy figures. Those stupid plastic screws holding the interior panels to the car, which constantly fall out.

The Ford Focus is certainly a mixed bag. After test driving other vehicles, the ZX3 just felt so well put together. Tight fit & finish, excellent seats(comfort wise & the ability to raise the drivers seat), good ergonomics & a surprisingly good stereo. I really liked the clean lines & the handling is superb. After a few months however, I started to hear disturbing noises coming from the chasis & interior body panels. Lots of creaking & groaning at low speeds going around town. The Ford dealer service guy said that is to be expected when you buy a plastic car. Hmmm. First big problem was vibrating brake pedal due to the front rotors being warped from over heating. They were replaced after only 9000 miles (warranty) again at 12000 & again at 16000 miles. The service guys admitted that the rotors are too thin for the job. The upholstery started to come away from the back seat bottom & was taken care of under warranty. The paint started lifting off the hood & was replaced under warranty. The drivers seat track was replaced under warranty because it was misaligned somehow & was prematurally coming apart. There is way too much twist to the car resulting in wear marks to the rear bumper from the hatch door. Ford says there is nothing that they can do about that. It's a damn good car but the quality control in the Mexico plant is killing the good name of this otherwise well designed, fun & extremely user friendly car.

No repair or recalls-today

Weakness:

Looks to be a costly maintenance nightmare -I pray for a total recall or just let me get rid of this junk!!

Bought used 6/01. O.K. at first(23600 miles)Now more recalls, and stalling problem. Took in when idled rough, check engine light on,and stalling more. Surprise!!Told that cylinder head was cracked and car is just out of factory warranty (32655 miles)Have extended warranty (API)but they won't cover either because they say there is carbon buildup. Ford wants $1,780.00 to fix!!After going nuts they agree to do for $ 400.00 then they also find leaking trans. hose for $ 41.32.As if this isn't bad enough the brakes need to be done ,the driver door keyless entry is intermittent and the trunk key mechanism needs to be replaced!! There have ONLY been 10,000 miles put on this car since I bought it! I can hardly wait till my tranny goes and I get burned when my airbag deploys like my fellow focus owners have experienced! I am getting rid of this piece of worthless DUNG as soon as I figure out how. NO WAY WOULD I EVER RECOMMEND FORD!! The best they could do is make the customer pay for their lousy workmanship!
