Strength:

22 pumpkins can fit in the back of the hatch
or 3 full sized bikes with the seats down

Weakness:

1 cup holder in the back.
No light for the back seat.
The trunk light seems to be in a strange spot
Rims are cheep 2 of the 4 are bent on mine.

Basically the biggest mistake of my life thus far.
Had 30,000mi now has 76,000
I bought my Focus used I got it home and the window motor went out no biggie it was a cheep fix.
The 6 disk changer ate one of my CD's.
I bought a new cd player with an ipod hook up.
Later found out I cant change my tires due to pry points and have to call some one to help me its been kicked off preyed off had a sludge hammer taken to it and beaten off with the spare.
Its mostly impassable to figure out how to put the spare tire and jack back together properly.
Then the alternator started to go out on me, acting like it was out of gas running at about 10volts or so.
Wasn't a bad fix had I not been working when it went out on me.
I was a pizza delivery driver at the time.
Doors have looked on me for no reason. Doors not locked car running checked to make sure I didn't lock door came back doors locked.
I don't get the gas millage I was hoping to get just around 20mpg, but is double what I did get before hand.
Now my ABS light is on and there seems to be nothing wrong.

Superb handling, pefect steering, and nicest looking hatchback I've seen

Weakness:

Underpowered

Great car has had a few minor problems starter went out and had to replace a hose nothing big and this was after the previous owner flipped it. I get no lower than 20 mpg even when shifting just before the rev limiter. It was a great handling car when I bought it but with 500 bucks into the suspension it is now pulling 1g+ if you want to out run all those civics on the road this is the car for you. Then there is the steering its perfectly weighted and you just point the wheel where you want to go. The only complaint I have about this car is underpowered but its an economy car so who cares when it runs with corvette's through twisties.

Decent gas mileage.

Weakness:

Reliability. Repair costs. Awkward seating and pillar positions if you're taller than 4'2". You feel like you're sitting on the ground. Terrible ride. You have to deal with Ford Rip-Off artists three times a year for recalls.

I like all the positive reviews from people who have has a Focus for a couple weeks. Wait until you've had it for 3 years then write your review.

This car was a colossal pile of junk. We had to have had at least six or seven recalls on this thing. The one time we tried to have one repaired, the dealer tried to screw us by saying that he woudln't know if the problem was covered under the recall until he did all the work. Typical Ford - always try to screw the customer.

Well, the car lived up to its Ford expectations. After 3 years and 80k miles it was a crapshoot as to whether the car was going to strand you or not. The electrical system was a constant problem. We ended up having a $700 tune up at one point because it was running so poorly. The back door wouldn't close. The ignition key wouldn't turn. the transmission was starting to go (imagine that!) so we traded it in on a Toyota. No problems to report from the Toyota whatsoever.

Make sure you keep walking shoes in the car if you buy a Focus.

Not available in North America. What are we? Second class world citizens?

My wife and I just returned from three and a half weeks travelling throughout the South of Italy by car. We rented a 2007 Ford Focus hatchback, 5 speed maunal at Rome's termini station in the heart of Rome.

The car was fabulous. Anyone who has driven in the South of Italy would fully appreciate the abilities of this vehicle.

The Amalfi Coast with its inumerable super-tight hair pins along a rock cliff face falling to the Mediteranean Sea 200 ft below required great handling and agility. Press-back acceleration in 2nd gear (on these roads you can barely get to 3rd gear an the few short straight sections) allowed passing (yeah, we drove like Italians) when only seconds were a luxury.

An Italian parking spot is one that is just 24 inches longer than the car. That's 12" in front and 12 in back. The Ford Focus had the tighteset truning radius of any car we've driven and it was needed to manouver into these tight spots and to handle the "threading" of the car through small village streets where people park in "Italian Random" style.

The autostrada was another story. Left lane driving is normally for Mercedes, Audis and BMWs (andthe odd Ferrari). Not uncommon to be travelling above the 130 km limit ( 150 is the Italian translation) and have another car BLOW past you as if you're standing still. The Ford Focus held it's own in these intimidating conditions so well I don't think the locals new we were tourists.

Did I mention that it was a diesel engine? We used 220 litres to travel 3950 km. That's about 40 miles per US gal or 53 miles per Imperial gal.

The car was a 5 door model. The trunk took our two large suit cases and more.

I can have back pain when sitting in somme car seats too long but there was no discomfort during the odd 500 km day during our vacation.

This was a great looking car with styling that reflected the European image of what they like in their shoes and clothes.

Wish we could get one of these cars here in Canada.

Strength:

Handles very well, steering feel is good, cruises along well at 75-80, 5-speed has long throws but shifts pretty smoothly, stereo sounds pretty good for factory (6-disc in-dash/mp3), seats have good bolstering, power sunroof works very nicely, 2-tone interior looks more expensive than it is.

Weakness:

melted fog light and peeling gear shift knob replaced under warranty, some QC issues (but not much worse than a Honda or Nissan), gauges/radio kinda boring looking but functional, could use a bit more power (probably curable w/aftermarket)

I think this car is great. . . I bought my Focus used as a 2nd vehicle to commute mainly for a 90-mile round trip to work, the HEMI in my Dodge Ram was not the best on gas mileage. This car is a blast to drive, handles very well, has loads of features I didn't expect to have, especially for the price as a slightly used 1- year old vehicle.

Not much get up and go

I can only say GOOD things about this car.
That's right!! GOOD THINGS!!!
I purchased this car as a "buy back" in 2001, and it has been going strong ever since. It has never had any problems except for the usual maintenance, brakes, oil, etc.
If your are looking for power and performance this car is not for you, but if you want something reliable and will start at the fist turn of the key (for the past 7 years) this is the car for you.

Strength:

Handling, transmission, the noise the doors make when they shut.

Weakness:

Not splashy by any stretch. And that's good, fewer things to break.

After 1 year I can still say this car is a gem. I never expected to buy it, went to the Ford lot looking for something used and cheap, but the dealer turned me toward the Focus with 0% financing, so I test drove it. I am an old school Japanese car snob, so I was quite surprised at how nicely this thing drives.

It's only grown on me. I feel like I have the most reliable car ever, and the cheapest to fix if I ever need to (bought the extended warranty just because I couldn't believe I was buying a new Ford).

It's not exciting to look at, but it's still "cute". Space inside is amazing, and you really feel like you're in a midsize with this car. I admit the stereo isn't the greatest, but it sure isn't bad. I have read a lot of complaints about the cheap quality of the materials, and that may be so, but they're not gaudy -- they're quite "Ikea" minimalist, and everything does what it's supposed to. Seats are comfortable, ride is excellent, handling is superior. Little noisy on the road, but this car grips the road so it's easy to get caught up in the drive itself.

I'm glad people continue to underestimate the Focus. It keeps it cheap for those of us who realize we got a hell of a good car at bargain basement prices. (Oh yeah, and the insurance on these, as opposed to say a Civic or Corolla, is laughably cheap. Who the hell wants to steal one?!)

Weakness:

it's a ford. need i say more?

this car has ruined me. i hae never been so disgusted with a personal decision as i am with the decision to buy a ford. mind you, i've heard not all their models are so bad, but i have had such an atrocious experience with this one i am forced to believe that ford is an evil corporation that preys on those who don't have the money to head down to the bmw dealership. the car is not even paid off, i only have about 2 monthsleft on the loan and i am willing to have it re-poed just so i don't have to look at it anymore. in the 5 years i have owned it i have had to have 3 major brake jobs because of some sort of defect, the throttle cable(which i'm told should last up to 10 years) snapped in 2003 - the thermostat and housing have been replaced twice - the ignition has been relapced twice - the a/c, heater, and defrost have not worked in 3 years (no, it's not a fuse problem) - i tapped the side mirror once at which point it fell right off (tapped. not slammed into something) - the water pump has gone out - i have purchased 3 new batteries and 2 new alternators - and currently must stay in constant motion or it overheats (the fan or the fan relay have gone out. again - not the fuse)... oh. and the motor mounts are broken. oh oh oh! and whoever had the brilliant idea to put that size rim on a stock car needs to be medicaly examined. the only tires that fit happen to be a minimum of $85 a piece and are racing tires. good luck racing that thing!! the engine will either blow up mid-race or the brakes will fail at the end.
i have never been hard on my car. i drive it very nicely and have never been in an accident because i know i can't afford to fix it, but as a 21 year old girl, i am in so much debt because of ford that i have no idea how i will ever get out of it.

Easy to park? (All I can think of right now)

Weakness:

Poor build quality. Lousy recall system (tumblers, strut springs etc.)
Lousy dealership. Damages car and then says it was like that when it came in.

Wow. Where to start? Worst car I have ever had the displeasure of owning. Very poor support from local dealership... new dent every time they repair it? They must be playing baseball in the shop. I have had to replace the ignition tumbler 3 times, once under warranty and the other 2 times at my expense. Also had to get it towed twice when the tumbler failed as it wouldn't start. Had the center rear seat belt replaced twice. Once due to dealership incompetence (they didn't think I would notice that the mechanic drilled holes through the webbing by accident). Center seat belt still doesn't work. Valve cover gasket started leaking at about 75K. Most recent break down was due to a "silent recall" that I wasn't notified about. Seems that some of the early model Focus's had faulty strut coil springs on the front that could break. Recall isn't made public because they weren't sure which models were affected. Spring broke in a busy intersection on my wife and 6 year old son. They had to vacate the vehicle in heavy traffic and get it towed to the dealership. Turns out that when the spring broke it also bent the strut (30K on struts). Also there is a dent in the fender and the bottom valance is broken, I can only assume this damage is from an incompetent mechanic. Bad enough that my wife and son had to risk their lives in a busy intersection, can you imagine what would have happened if this spring had broke on the highway at 100KMH? Thanks for thinking of our safety ford! Other beefs with the car, poor quality seats, noisy/defective defrost motor, undersize brakes necessitating expensive brake jobs (warped rotors etc.), poor fuel economy. Definitely one of the worst cars I have ever owned. I will never buy another ford product or deal at this dealership again. All this and the car only has 130K on it now.

the glass works, i mean you can see thru it, so it works, but not much else does

Weakness:

With 36000 miles, it needs: new tires-bc they are chewed due to incorrect toe in, it has had an alternater go out that left me stranded 60 miles from home, the arm rest/center console does not latch, if you let it sit for more than 3 days you have to jupm start the POS, the brakes are way under sized, and the front end shakes when you stop due to small roters that have overheated and warped, the seating in uncomfortable to say it nicely. milage is not what was estimated on sheet, dealer support on this vehicle sucks, Ford customer care for Focus owners can bite my a$$, and to top it all off, the trade in on it is worth $8000 after just 23 months! What a car...

This is the worst vehice I have ever owned. I would recommend buy a bicycle instead of a Focus and possibly any other Ford-I have owned 8 brand new Fords and the service and reliabilty of Focus makes me want to go buy a Chevy, and I am able to purchse fords at A/Z plan.
