Yea Right

Weakness:

theres not enough room in this section.

This car blows. It ran good for awail until my tail lights and dash lights went out on a cold January evening in the middle of NOWHERE! That little party cost me a left nut. Found out it was a recall and had to basicaly threaten the dealership until I got paid back.

Next....wheel bearings. Yep, both went out and it cost me my other nut. Good thing I had a vasectomy.

How about sqeeky suspension. Sounds like I'm riding in a antique bed with rusty box springs.

Gas door sticks. Engine light continues to stay on althought no one seems to know what the hell is wrong with it.

Need I say more? This car sucks and if your looking at this thinking you might get one, think again. I'd sooner drive a Festiva.

Model Reviewed: Ford Contour GL (2.0L 16V 4cyl Zetec, Auto) ~80,000miles

Strength:

excellent power for a 4cyl engine (130hp=rated, mine~145/150hp), clean lines inside and out, nice color (silver), very reliable!, fast, even faster and more powerful with cheap (<$1500) modifications

Weakness:

not much of a "sporty" look, no power windows or locks, no tilt, gas cover wont open unless you beat on it, my front right tire is misaligned (but *that* was my fault)

this was my second car (the first a TOYota tercel... lol), and i've been consistantly impressed with its power and its reliability. contrary to many of the previous reports, my "95 contour" is no lemon. the car is a very nice looking sedan, though it doesnt posess the sporty look found in comparable sized vehicles. it goes pretty fast for a midsize (i was able to get it up to 105mph more than once without modifications) and it zips off the start of any streetlight. i've spent some time and money on new intake and exaust systems to pep it up (new filter system $250, new perf muffler and dual exaust $900), and so far i've had better acceleration than the couple of souped up hondas and toyotas i've met (most were civics or corollas... i did meet a corolla with $12,000 under the hood (and a $4500 paint job... wow) that i couldnt touch). so, for less than $1500, i've turned a cheap family sedan into a sporty street car. i havent experianced any real problems with it (two recalls, nothing wrong there) except for a misaligned front right tire, but that happened because i bounced off a curb. because of its reliability, i would recommend it to people who wish to use this as a *normal* car, and because of its power, i would recommend it to anyone interested in fast (and cheap) cars.

Model Reviewed: Contour GL

Strength:

Comfortable front seats, cruise control, excellent visibility, decent trunk space, nice handling.

Weakness:

Tough to merge/pass on the highway, slow up hills, no tilt wheel, electrical problems, defogger is terrible, short lifespan for transmission, expensive repairs/parts.

The Contour GL has no pickup. This car always has some sort of electrical or sensor problem. The check engine light has been on for the last 10 months, and no mechanic seems to be able to fix the problem. The transmission had to be rebuilt with just 68,000 miles on it. I purchased this car used last summer, and had to invest about $3,500 in repairs over the course of one year. It's no wonder this model has been discontinued.

I've never paid more than $1,500 for my cars until now, and the Contour has given me more problems than any of them.

Good gas mileage, awesome driver side power window, power seat, power

Weakness:

recalls

I love this car!!! It's my first car and I chose it because when I took it for a test drive, I could just feel the power it had. I beat everyone taking off from stoplights and even in street racing and I haven't even made any modificatios on it yet. This is an awesome first car and would make an excellent family car. It is very economical for anyone. Also, my boyfriend has a sports car, but for long trips he would rather take mine because it is so much easier to handle and a much smoother ride. It was a smart buying option.

Strength:

comfortable seats, ergonomics, cornering, very reliable,

Weakness:

4 cylinder engine,

The first time i sat in it was very comfortable. The radio and cliamte controls were facing me. Everything is very close for easy acces while drinving. The seats are very comfortable and supportive on turns. I took it out the first time and drove very well. It needs a little more horseower but the 125 it supplies is suffice. I've owned the car since 97 and no big problems except humming noice from front right axle bearings that was easily repaired. I take good care of it by changing the oil every 2500 miles and spark plug wires and make sure to change timing belt and waterpump at the same time at around 50,000 miles. The car drives pretty smooth and is quiet over smooth roads. It does strugle a little going up hills if the gas pedal isn't puched down far enough. Interior lights are cool too especially where the door handle is to open the doors.

Strength:

view while looking out of car, seats, AC is good, radio,

Weakness:

it's slow up hills. if i got another one i would get the v-6. but i like the 16v 4 cylinder just fine. when taking off from stop signs when you kind of press the pedal hard it dont want to take off right away! if i did get another contour it would be the svt model. I think thats the best bet for the contour.

My experience with this car has been good and bad at times. This car for some reason has way and I mean way to many recalls on alot of different stuff. I really like the European design and the looks of it. I like the rounded dash and mph odomater.

Strength:

Fun to drive, great cornering and quick. Has clean lines and comfortable to drive. Great luggage capacity with a large trunk and fold down seats. Has that European sports sedan feel for half the cost.

Weakness:

Very little. Had problem with trunk release - replaced solinoid.

"Sports coupe desires don't need to be sacrificed by sedan needs with the 1998 Ford Contour SE. It combines the driving enjoyment of a sports coupe with the 4-door practicality of a sedan. The Duratec V6 (170hp) engine has great midrange torque and is sportingly rev-happy. At higher engine speeds it's energetic and makes very satisfying six-cylinder music." quote from Carey Russ at www.theautochannel.com

My thoughts...
