I never thought a four banger could make your face peel off when you hit the throttle, wow! was I impressed. It has a very smooth ride and for my size (6'6) the space is just enough fit my long legs even with someone sitting behind me(roomy) I love the colors to choose from mine happens to be platnium very smooth..I love the sporty yet luxury feel of the dash.I am at 39000 miles with no problem. I just wish they could make a stratus convertable.

Like mentioned many of times the front cup holders. Watch out for that 3rd tail light might wanna go out and buy a few bulbs. The downshift is alittle slow but when it does hit watch out. The road noise is alittle bad but who cares listen to the radio or something.

I have had the car for awhile now and I love it. I drive at least 60miles a day and have not ran into a problem yet.

I would consider my Stratus a domestic sedan that drives and performs more like a sports car. Very effective brakes in my opinion. Excellent pickup, sometimes I have to be careful not to spin the tires. (sometimes I'm not so careful ...!) The handling is simply unbelievable. As a bonus the car looks cool too. I get a lot of positive comments and requests to drive it from the guys at work. The stock AM/FM/Cassette stereo is very good, I'm happy with it for the time being.

Ever since I popped the hood at the dealership and thought "where did they hide the battery?" I have been wondering about it. I got bored one day and read the owner's manual, which told me the secret. Now I know why employers are requiring drug testing for their employees. What were they thinking???

The front cup holders are a joke, I guess they can hold my spare change.

An annoying, intermittent brake squeal. The transmission has a bit of a delay downshifting. The cruise control sometimes over-compensates when going up a hill. Rear window vision is poor for short range use, I find myself using the side mirrors more when backing. The power windows are making strange noises, it sounds like they're straining to operate. The left outside power mirror failed, I have to adjust it by hand (waaa!). The HVAC blower is very loud at high speed.

The Stratus reflects the benefits of some excellent American engineering (except for negatives above). It also has the typical domestic car downfalls, including poor resale value and manufactured from cheaper materials, presumably for cost savings.

I am a very large guy so I appreciate the ample interior room and tilt wheel. The seats are pretty comfortable for me. The controls are laid out very well, convenient and have a positive feel. The long dashboard takes some getting used to but it's cool.

As I spent $8500 for it used, I would definitely recommend it as a good value. As with most cars, expect the routine maintenance and upkeep. In addition, be sure to regularly check the lights, esp. the 3rd brake light. Finally, anticipate regular replacement of the brake friction materials. Using high quality pads with anti-squeal shims will help reduce brake squeal. Don't ever get cheap with brakes, on any car - your life may depend on them one day!

This car replaces my recently deceased '96 Mazda Protege, which was totalled in an accident. The Mazda was very reliable and only required routine maintenance. However, it didn't have nearly the power, handling or interior space that the Stratus has.

The car has a great color and great passing power for a 2.4L! The gallons per mile could be a little greater, but it's overall average. I like the comfort of the seats and hughs nicely around corners. The color and style of the car is also impressive for a mid-size car. Heating is great during the winter and have not had any problems with the A/C in the summer.

I have found problems with the automatic window switches on the passanger side of the car. Also the breaks are squeeky and at times not as responsive as they should be. Had the breaks changed twice, and still I get the same result. BAD ON SNOW...I am not impressed at all with the handling on snow or ice. The stratus is a low car, so I don't recomend going through large amounts of snow.

The 2000 Stratus is a overall great car! Traveling with this car is very nice. The room in the trunk, back seats and passanger is suprising. FUN to drive! I have had more good expriences with this vehicle than bad. The sound quality is above average, and is a very attractive car.

I have tested the Pontiac Grand A.M as well as the Honda Accord. The Pontiac had no room, but great power. The Accord had a little more room, liked the gas milage, but could be a little more powerful.

Get interior for the front. Good passing power, very stable steering. Overall a great car

This is just a great car. The only thing I don't care for is how hard black is to keep clean, but that is my fault. If you can afford this car, get it.

Good looks, good handling, and fun to drive, but be prepared for being uncomfortable and needing repairs.

I have to commend the team of Chrysler designers, they have consistently designed some of the best looking cars in the automotive world.
For such a small car, it has a suprising amount of room, for both front passengers as well as rear passengers.
The 2.4L 4 Cylinder engine has almost as much horsepower and torque as the 3.5L V6 (150/167)!

It seems to me that the Chrysler philosiphy is to design beautiful cars and put in absolutely the cheapest, most unreliable parts and powertrain available.

In almost 4 years and 96K miles I have experienced everything the car could dish out. At 7K the alternator tensioner failed and had to be replaced. At 21K the right rear window switch on the drivers cluster failed. I never got it replaced, too costly, the entire cluster had to be removed and replaced! Around 40K the engine threw a rod, which coincidentally punched two holes in the block, smashed the oil pump and continued through the oilpan (miracle bullet?). So after $4,800 the engine was replaced. Strangely, I had to fight Chrysler for months to get reimbursed. Eventually they agreed to pay 50% of parts only! As if the above wasn't bad enough, the engine went again around 50K and the transmission followed at 60K. Two more transmissions, an exhaust manifold, a catylatic converter, tie rods, 8 pair of rotors and a power steering rack later the car still has fantom rattles, various whines and other disconcerting problems. Odd how every morning when I get in the car I experience the multitude of problems, but the Chrysler service guys can't find any of at least a dozen problems that I consistently bring it in for.

Needless to say, build quality, reliablility and customer service were forgotten by DiamlerChrysler, assuming that it was there at some point.

Granted, the styling of the Stratus is great, as is the roominess and practicality of the vehicle, but thats where the strengths end.

The overall build quality is poor! There has been entirely too many repairs to justify. The odd rattle and noises seemed to start the day I accepted delivery of the car.

Throw in the irresponsible, rude and expensive service and you have the makings of a real POS (Piece Of Sh*t). If Chrysler would improve their customer satisfaction, this review wouldn't be as scathing as it is. I'm sure that others who went through what I experienced would concur. Everytime I dropped my car into service, it'd disappear for a week and usually the problem couldn't be duplicated. It shouldn't take a week to do anything short of an engine or tranny.

Resale value is VERY, VERY POOR!!!!! The resale value dropped approximately 48% the first 18 months, and fell to 10% of the total purchase price after four years and 95K. High miles, yes, but to receive less than $2,500 after four years (not to mention the above repairs) is disappointing.

Overall, I would strongly recommend that you choose something else. Chrysler quality is nonexistent, their service department should be retitled to disservice department and warranty disputes will make you feel helpless. I can honestly say, after my experierence, I will never, ever buy another Chrysler product. If they offered to give me a new Chrysler, I'd say no because I'd end up paying twice the value of the car in repairs. I hope Chrysler learns a few things from DiamlerBenz, otherwise Diamler will feel just like I do, ripped off.

Mecury Topaz: The Dodge actually compares favorably against the Topaz. Mechanically the Topaz has proven to be more reliable (at least for me), but I prefer the styling and spaciousness of the Dodge.
Nissan Pathfinder: Can't compare the Dodge against this. In my mind, this is THE best SUV every built!!!

Good Handling, Great accelaration for a 4 cyl you can really fell the 150hp. I'm 6'1'', and I found a lot of leg space for front and rear passanger.(Even with the front seat all the way back). A lot of trunk space. Nice looking interiors.

As everybody says, the cup holder are not that good. Some unexpected and weird behavior of the Stereo(like reset of the Time and loosing the Bass until you turn off the car and turned on again). The Battery location(I still doesn't know where the hell is it). The 15 inches tire slips like butter on a hot pan on the snow. The high beams are a little big poor.

I really like driving my Sedan, is nice looking and has some serious power under the hood. Is a good choice, at least the 2000 SE model 2.4L. I put 70 miles daily on my car and I don't have anything bad to say about the engine or the transmission.(Hint: problem with the downshift, try a good Transmisison treatment)
