Tunability, Overengineered Motor, Suspension and Handling Potential, Factory Upgrades/Warrenty, HP/LB./Dollar Value . . . This is a True Enthusiast/Tuner Automobile!

Weakness:

From a Performance Car viewpoint . . . NONE . . .

I traded in my 1996 TransAm (best 1/4 mile of 12.73@107) for this amazing little modern musclecar. The PVO development team overengineered the motor. SCCA had it's hand in suspension geometry to ensure serious upgrade potential for Track-Attack junkies and race-day warriors . . .The Mopar performance branch will be ripe with speed parts - pioneered and developed with the SRT-4 NHRA Pro-FWD/All Motor Mopar teams. 3 stage upgrades with full warrenty and HP/LB./Dollar value is hard to discredit! . . Think about this . . I have read multiple posts on various web forums submitted by Viper GTS owners that claim SRT-4's are harassing them on the road courses!!! That is major testimony . . . The SRT-4 is sneaky fast . . . to my own surprise I was able to pull on and edge pass a 2003 AMG SLK 32($55000/350HP) that I raced just the other day! I believe these cars are seriously UNDERRATED in the power/torque department. It is my belief that this car could become the "Supra" of Domestic Sport Compacts!

This car absolutely lives up to it's reviews in the magazines. The one statistic that puts everything in perspective is the 0-100 mph runs. Compared to the Mazdaspeed Protege, Focus SVT, and Civic SI, the SRT-4 is about 6 seconds faster than its closest competitor. Having 85 ft-lbs more torque than its closest competitor will also leave a lot of other cars in its wake. It handles great, sounds terrific, the seats are awesome, shifts solidly, blistering acceleration, and 20+ mpg. I've replaced the stock paper air filter with a Uni dual-stage foam filter, and modded the stock intake to a cold-air intake from the left-side driving light. The SRT-4, without a doubt, delivers the most bang for the buck, compared to cars in its class, and even cars costing several thousand dollars more. Long live American muscle!

Like they say, Dodge did everything right with this car, it is truely amazing!! It handles great, is very fast, noise from wind is not even noticeable, great exhaust sound, and most of all, the turbo is very smooth, it has power at even low RPM's. It simply is the best and fastest car for under 20,000 dollars. I drove a 2001 BMW 325i sport and must say I like the SRT-4 better. You have to drive one to understand. People will realize it's just not another Neon, they really will!!

Strength:

Powerful acceleration, aggressive appearance, aggressive sound, front seats fit like a glove, bang for the buck is bar none, safety features/creature comforts/space that make it usable as a family vehicle. Many upgrades are already available for those who are power hungry… most of which are at a reasonable price to make even more insane power than it already has.

Weakness:

It’s a Neon and that alone leaves a dirty taste in some peoples mouths. It has so much power that it’s almost a continuous effort to keep it at the speed limit. Power windows in the front but not the rear. The most annoying part was the little hook shaped part of the door at the top of the rear doors… they are just begging to gouge you.

While it’s a pain in the butt to ever get a test drive of one of these… I did just that. I had to drive 3 hours to get to a dealership that would let me do it though. On first inspection of the exterior everything looks clean. The only problem I saw was a sharp corner on the rear doors that are begging to gouge someone who is not paying attention. Otherwise the body looks very clean. Getting inside, the seats fit like a glove. Someone who is a bit heavier set may find the wrap around seats uncomfortable but alternative seats are offered from dodge. There are three cup holders in the front and one available for the rear passengers via the center console lid. The rear seats have plenty of room even for a tall person (my friend is 6’ 2” and fit comfortably) The seats also fold down, split seat style, to gain access to the trunk. There are safety tether attachment points on the rear deck for child seats and the trunk has a release handle inside to prevent getting locked inside. The instrument panel is laid out nice. The boost gauge is set off to the side making it look more like an aftermarket add-on gauge. The shifter works smooth with a bit of resistance just before entering into each gear. The clutch is a bit heavy but it is understandable considering the power it transmits to the drive train. Foot peddles are close together but unless you have clown shoes it doesn’t take long to get use to their positioning. The turbo sound is almost unnoticeable because of the exhaust system that it comes with. Noise outside the car is about on par with my friends ‘95 Camaro… loud but not irritating/deafening. If you go to the flash page for the SRT-4 on Dodge’s web site you can take a virtual tour of the car and start the engine… it sounds exactly like that. Road/engine noise inside the car is modest and holding a conversation with passengers at highway speeds is far from being a shouting match like it is in some cars. The car has sufficient torque at nearly all RPMs so accelerating is virtually effortless in any gear at any RPM. It takes a bit of control to keep the car slow since only a slight amount of peddle pressure is required for even highway speeds. It is as if the car wants to go fast. An application of too much peddle at slower speeds will result in instant breakaway and you smoke the tires… So be careful when you decide to gun it on the highway on ramp or making a U-turn. I’m sure I’m forgetting something… but that’s the major stuff that stood out in my mind. The dealership I went to was slapping on an additional $1,000 for “hard to find” inventory. Basically just highway robbery if you ask me. All in all I was extremely pleased with the car and as soon as I’ve saved up enough money for a healthy down payment I’ll be getting one. FYI… I’ve been told that the silver model is being discontinued and the 2004 replacement color will be electric blue. If you go to http://www.chrysler.com/pt_cruiser/features/colors_wheels/index.html you can see what this color would look like on a PT cruiser.

I saw the SRT-4 while browsing what Dodge had to offer. It looked good, but I kept on thinking it's a neon. The next Dodge Dealership I hit I test drive one and I couldn't believe it was a neon. I've always said I'd never buy a neon, but this thing is amazing. The power and acceleration where amazing. Con's, the wing is a little bit too big. Otherwise, the car is great for the money. I think I'll be buying one in a week. Go try it for yourself.

Power, handling, roominess... did I mention it has allot of power? Everyone that has driven my car or ridden in it has just been amazed with the car. Anyone who complains about this car does not realize it's mission in life.

Weakness:

Exhaust is kind of loud if you are not into that type of thing. The seats might become a little restrictive on long trips.

I went and test drove this car with very high expectations and all of them were exceeded. Needless to say I purchased the car immediatly. This car is the most fun I have ever had in an automobile and the greatest bang for the buck I have ever seen. Any drawbacks I see in the car are greatly overshadowed by the strengths of the car.

crazy throw the head back kick! awsome sounding exhaust. killer bang for the buck.

Weakness:

wing makes me wanna blow chunks. lack of less eye catching colors tires are tall enough, but way to narrow its a dodge

I had a 2001 neon es, several hondas, and a couple of OTHER imports. They ranged from 4 bangers to 6's and even a mitsu gst (turbo). Itest drove the subaru WRX, and the neon, the next day. This will be my next car in a couple of months! the looks (- the wing), and performance, literally destroy the competition. not to mension it going to be bout 150-200$ less per mo. to finance.

13PSI (Stock), the sounds hard (not like a lawnmower for them imports), handling is great, and the seating I love.

Weakness:

does not come with a free bumper sticker saying "Import Eater".

Only ones who diss the SRT-4 are the ones who do not own one / or was shown that their rice-rockets has no chance against the SRT-4. I guess they got pissed casue they tried to show off with their girlfriend in the car and ended getting smoked and embarrased. To the ones complaining about the hard shifting: get your butt to a gym n work out you babies, this is not an import so don't expect import qualities. This car was made in the good ol US of A and it eats imports for breakfast. I'd mention about the avaliabe upgrade but i'll max out my character limit.
