Strength:
Safe, dependable, affordable transportation.
Weakness:
Not fast or fun, but it was never designed to be. With the neon you should really know what you're buying before you go in. Especially with the low line SXT. It's not a race car, it's not a van, it's not a truck, it's basic, economical, inexpensive transportation. I've put 41,000 miles on mine and have had no problems. It needs a brake job, but that's not bad with the mileage I've put on it, and I'll be happy to have it done. It's not fast, it's not roomy, but it is safe for its size. An expidition t-boned me on the driver door, and I had a sore neck and that's it. My daughter was in the opposite back seat in a safety seat, and was completely unhurt. Worth the money if you just want a basic car, but know what you're buying. Similar Products Used: Plymouth Sundance |

2-door Neon
Strength:
*Great gas mileage (although to be honest, as it ages, the gas mileage is not as good as it once was, but still much better than a SUV or large sedan). *Sporty. *Easy to maneuver. *Great value for the money. *Even for repairs that may come up, parts are common and inexpensive; also replacing tires is relatively inexpensive. *Long Life= 240,000+ miles! (can you believe it?!)
Weakness:
*It's a small car, which is bothersome for larger people or people who have a problem getting down into such a low car. *It really doesn't seat more than 4 people comfortably. ?*Also, forgot to mention, some tubes that go to the gas tank had dry-rotted and I had a gas leak, this was probably the only major scary problem I've had. I imagine if I had a regular mechanic it could have been spotted in advance, but instead I had to take it in immediately to be fixed. could have been dangerous but ended up being like a $100 repair. So big deal to me, but not to my wallet. occurred probably close to the 200,000 mile mark. This is the only car I have ever had because it has lasted me for so long. Yes, it is still running and has over 240,000 miles on it!! When I take it in to be serviced (regularly- as seems to be the key to keeping it running so well), the mechanics literally do not believe that my car has so many miles on it for such good condition. Of course I have had some repairs over the years but nothing major (nothing costing over $300 dollars or so at any time). The air conditioning went out a few years ago (probably around the 140,000 mile mark) and attempts at fixing it have proven merely temporary. Also the horn went out about 2 years ago, but I never bothered to fix that. Other minor complications have been easy repairs. I bought the car initially as a teenager because it was in my price range and could not be happier with my purchase! I would strongly consider buying another Neon, although I have been told that the newer ones are not made-to-last like the older cars were. I would actually probably buy another 1995 Neon if I can find one with low mileage. I love this car because it has been consistently reliable. I dunno if my good luck is the standard, but I do know that regular tune-ups are the key and that the older vehicles were built more durable than cars nowadays. So I would highly recommend a well-maintained 1995 Neon to anyone I know. Similar Products Used: My family has regularly driven Dodge vehicles and has never had major problems. Weakness:
-had some transmission problems
Bought this car new 4 years ago as my first car. I have like it pretty much and have put over 75000 ml. on it. Have had a few problems with it, had the transmission replace at just over 60000 ml. under warranty, the trunk lack can stick at times, the fog light pull on switch is starting to get lose (which mades then flick on/off in the off postition when using the turn signals), the console between seats the lids latch has broke and radio had recently started to go out for a second from time to time. Except for the transmission nothing that had been major.

bad brakes
I bought this car in 2002 a few months after my father passed away. He was a mechanic and would always get me used cars that he could fix when they broke. I decided to purchase a new car because my father was gone. Within a week some of the superficial things on the car were already causing problems. THe lining on the door began to separate from the door and this odd little patch of mesh covering on the dash began to peel off. At 13,000 miles my transmission broke. It was great because the dealership treated me like crap and even though 24 hour roadside service was included in the warranty, I had to pay for my own tow (I was only 7 miles away from the dealership when the car died). I've had to fix the brakes on the car every six months since I've had it. The trunk has broken twice. I get terrible gas mileage, and just the other day with only 40,000 miles the transmission went again. I'll never by another dodge Similar Products Used: dodge shadows |

Strength:
Good on gas. Resilient, peppy engine.
Weakness:
Chalky transmission (standard). Cornering could be better. Poor sound deadening; engine noises are constant, wind noise annoying over 100 km/h I see lots of bad stuff about the 95-99 Neons, I understand they're not very good. Heard lots of rotten stuff about them myself.

The car does look good and the lines seem to age well and the engine gives decent performances (when it's not broken down). So what drew so manny North Americans to this "thing" (to call it a car would be an insult to the rest of the auto industry)? The price. At 4500$ (15 000$ new)Canadian dollars the price is attractive but you always get what you pay for and in this case, you dont get very much other then a series of service bills.
Weakness:
Repairs add up quick and seem to be never ending: Air conditioners that stop working, entire transmissions needing changes, broken head gaskets, power stering (and im only naming a few. On top of these manny mechanical weaknesses, the Neon seems to attract car theives like a magnet. The interior of this car seems to have been built and designed by Fisher Price and the seats are too plush and offer no support, resulting in nice back aches after long trips. This car is a flagrent explanation as to why the American three are losing market shares left right and center. If you are an able mechanic and have access to cheap spare parts, this car could be for you. If your looking for reliablility and design, look elsewhere cause you wont find it in this lemon. What a cute litle car! DONT TOUCH IT, ITS POISON! The Dodge Neon might have an attrictive price but this car makes the Ford Pinto look like a BMW. An ancient, dangerously flimsy transmission (expect to have to change it at least once), botched assembly and head gaskets designed to break after warranty expiration are only a few . |

All the repairs, rides rough It wasn't the first car I would of thought I would buy. It has had many problems, thank God I had extended warranty. I have repaired, head gasket, rad, cam seals twice, rear main seal, all the engine mounts, numerous vaccuum leaks, starter, battery, lights got dull fast bought new ones (much better), and speedometer sometime doesn't work. |

none.
Weakness:
speedometer stops working, can hear the wind blowing inside the car when increasing speed on highway, gas mileage is non-existent must fill the tank 3 times a week, too low to the ground, not enough space, headliner coming down, paint worn, automatic gear shift broken, doesn't drive smooth, and loud engine. I needed a car temporarily until we could find me something that I liked. We purchased an automatic, 4 door, dodge neon. Automatic's are not my cup of tea and this car is terrible. It is difficult to crank at times, the engine is loud..sounds like a wanna be truck/go kart. For an automatic it drives like crap it jerks every time it kicks into a gear, sometimes it craps out in the middle of driving and won't go forward. Which is extremely dangerous. My mechanic couldn't find the reason for this and just said, "get rid of this car while it is still running." The speedometer is broken and when increasing speed in this car, you can hear the wind inside of the car. I wouldn't wish this kind of car on my worst enemy. So not worth the $1400. Needless to say, we are trying to find another car asap and get rid of this car. This would be a great car for a mechanically inclined person. Dodge Neon
Strength:
Good room inside for passengers, great trunk space, reliable up to 90,000+ miles on models past 2000.
Weakness:
Early models plagued with problems. This is my second Neon. My first one was a 1995 2 door. That one was riddled with problems, including the infamous head gasket leak. I had 3 of them replaced before they finally fixed the problem correctly in 1998. The windows on the 95 didn't seal correctly, had an Oxygen sensor go on me, and numerous other things. I chaulk all this up to getting a second year run of a new model. They hadn't worked out the kinks yet. But in the end I still loved that car. After it was totalled in and accident I got another Neon because A) I could afford it, and B) it was a reliable car now. I got the 2001 used with 20,000 mile on it. I am still driving it with 97,000 miles and just had my first major problem with it, the alternator went bad. I drive this car hard, putting lots of miles on it and using it as my house 3/4 of the time. The car has taken care of me well. Similar Products Used: LeBaron, Grand Pre |
