Chev Impala
Strength:
Good, comfortable, trouble free transportation for the price. Chevrolet: service/parts/repairs, if needed, available practically anyplace.
Weakness:
I have always had minor problems on these midsized GM cars with warped rotors -- causes pulsations when braking. This car is one of the better ones, since I haven't had need to repair, but it is noticeable. Don't think it's my driving habits, since the Ford and Chrysler products I have driven don't have the problem. An excellent car for the price. "Sticker" price on this one was $23,465 with several options. Previously, had an '02 and put 47,000 on that. This one has 61,000 and only repair has been allignment. Higher than normal road noise, but could be due to tire brand. PS option makes for good comfort. Satisfied with the 3.4 engine, but 3.8 has an excellent reputation. Overall, mileage around 27. good gas mileage, good power and torque, plenty of room, nice brakes, great suspension, fairly priced. We drove this car 1000 miles on a business trip, and I was very impressed. The car drives like a dream. Rail road tracks are barely noticable. The car is very roomy, the 3.4 liter has great acceleration, and the fuel economy was excellent considering the size of the car. It gets about the same as my little 2001 Nissan Sentra (28- 31 mpg)I am suprised that this base model sells for less than $18,000. I have owned and driven many different types of cars, and this one was very impressive. This is not a worthless biased opinion, because I have never owned a Chevrolet. the base engine is powerful, huge but not a boat, front speakers are awesome, great looks, and of course its a chevy
Weakness:
looks a little cheap on the inside, but cant tell at nite, rear stock speakers blew when hooking up the Alpine, wish i had the 240 hp SS version. this car is freakin' awesome. its everything u want in a modern family sedan. the engine is only the 3.4 V6 puttin' out 180 hp, but totally kicks. my car is from canada so the speedometer goes to 140 mph. all sooo much get up and go. especially from highway speed. passing is sooo easy. i replaced the stock tape deck right away with an Alpine, which blew the 6x9s in the back just being hooked up. they sounded awesome before that though. im not a fan of the bench seats though. so get shifter on the floor. but it fits six people soo nicely. it is huge and doesnt look like it from the outside. silver is a great color on this car. it comes with onstar, 16' 11 spoke wheels and rear spoiler, power windows, mirrors, the heater and ac work beautifully. the trunk CAN be an extra passanger compartment fairly comfortably, as i have tested out. it's huge!!! the seats r nice, the dash looks beautiful for an american car. can seem cheap at times though. i love this car and wouldnt trade it in for any other american sedan. Strength:
Very spacious on the inside. Handles extremely well in turns. Excellent braking system. Made for comfort.
Weakness:
Rear spoiler can block view from rear view mirror. Ispend a minimum of 8 hrs a day in a vehicle. The Impala has the comfort that I was looking for, along with gas mileage and durability. I actually look forward to driving my Impala. |

3.8 v6 is very powerfull and gets 25mpg in the city and 30 plus on the highway.
Weakness:
the seats could be a little more plush very good dependable and fast sporty car, various things can be programmed such as listening preferences, automatic locks, headlight delay after turning off ignition etc.. Rated as one of the safest cars to drive. Really good brakes and holds up well in crashes. Just a really good strong running car with no real weaknesses! Control layout, huge trunk, satisfying ride, braking.
Weakness:
3.4L fair at best, cheap plastic inside, some suspension float. I rented the car to move some personal items to my room, 150 miles away from home. We actually did 400 miles overall on a cloudy day. My dad and I found the 3.4-litre rather disappointing, even for fuel economy it was only fair at best. Our 90 Caddy does about as good on the highway. Ride was good, but not as good as in a Camry previously rented. Brakes are powerful. The front bench was uncomfortable; I felt it bad in my lower back. Interior materials felt quite Chevy cheap : the second you put your hands on the steering wheel, it's really obvious. However, controls were serviceable. I felt I had a better control of the rear of the car than in our Caddy when I tried to do backward maneuvers, even though rear view is no strong point on both cars. Dad will change his Caddy next year : we won't have an Impala in our driveway. Not a bad car, but a car made for rental companies... Similar Products Used: Midsize sedan ----> 2003 Camry LE |

Size. Smooth ride. Very steady at high speeds. Price. Dual climate controls for driver and passenger. Great fuel economy.(Avg. 28 MPG at 80 MPH on a 200 mile trip).
Weakness:
Base model's rear seat doesn't fold down. Head lights stay on once you shut off ignition. This is one of the sleeper cars in the automotive industry. I've driven about 5 as rentals equiped with the 3.4 liter V6. Smooth ride, good acceleration, great hwy gas mileage, looks decent, great handling. Plus it's a large car without the bulk. I guess that's police depts are switching from the Crown Vics.
