Acura RSX Type S
Strength:
Power, handling on a rail, nice short shifting, the whole package.
Weakness:
One cannot expect a sports car to be completely quiet, and the RSX is not. There is road noise.
This is a great car. It is responsive, quick, very reliable, and looks great too. I bought the car on advice from my 17 year old, I am 48, but loved the choice and still smile when driving the car. Other than an issue with rattling along the windshield edges, which was resolved by Superior Acura by replacing the whole windshield while I drove a TSX, I have not experienced any other problem. This is one heck of a car and has been beating the competition on comparisons and reviews many years in a row. |

Great mileage. Holds the road extremely well. Sound system is great. Lumbar support for driver is the best I have ever experienced
Weakness:
Tires are short lived and very expensive Trunk lid cannot be adjusted to line up properly. Endless rattles and squeeks. Bumper paint peeling off around left headlight. Regional rep refused to do anything about them and saying what do I expect as it is not an expensive car. Similar Products Used: 2000 Acura, Lexus, Mercedes, Sterling and Oldsmobile. |

TSX NAV
Strength:
Nice looking, agressive design, lots of standard features, great reputation.
Weakness:
Doesn't live up to reputation, lots of noises and buzzing, poor quality and workmanship, too many warranty repairs, horrible customer service when you really need them. Run from this car. This is the worst car I've ever owned. I have had more warranty issues than I ever thought possible: Replaced CD player, replaced under carriage door, replaced front seat base, replaced faulty brake pads, repaired front brakes, replaced back door panel, repaired both front door panels... the list goes on and on... Even after all of this there is still horrible buzzing noises coming from the door panels, center console, and daskboard. There's also movement in the two front seats when you come to a stop. Still problems with the CD player jamming up. The Acura dealer (Solano Acura) is quite rude at times and the Acura Customer Service is useless. This company falls far short of living up to the Honda reputation and this car would be an embarrasment for FORD!! Simply put, the workmanship in the car is horrible, leaving me with an expensive POS! Similar Products Used: Acura TL, Honda Accord, Dodge Avenger, Toyota MR2 |

Nice looking car. Good acceleration for a 4 cylinder. Good handling.
Weakness:
Interior rattles at windshield/dashboard area is driving me crazy!!!! Dealer's service department staff and management are rude and condescending. They kept trying to brush me off by claiming that they couldn't locate a problem. Acura Customer Service department & regional representatives were unconcerned & of no help. Car was purchased in August 2004 and has been to the dealer's service department many times already, mainly for squeaks and noises from the interior. The loudest and most annoying are constant rattles (worse when you hit even the tiniest bump in the road) from where the windshield meets the dashboard. Dealer could not fix after several attempts and wanted to replace the windshield, which I refused since the car is brand new. Acura Customer Service and regional representative offered no other recommendations or assistance. Similar Products Used: We also own a 2004 Acura TL which we love! We have not had any problems with it and that's why we thought buying another Acura would be a good idea. Boy were we wrong! I owned an 8 year old Honda Accord EX that had over 200,000 miles and never had any problems with it, especially never any noise/rattle issues. |

the way it handles, the speed, the 6 disc changer, it really does make heads turn honest to god. My brother girlfriend likes my interior better than her 2003 BMW,
Weakness:
i wish the antena actually was sticking out because at time the radio does not sound so clear, but i guess nothing is perfect, the sound system and the 6 disc changer makes up for it Man this car is great! I have not had any problem with it, its the best car i have bought, i acctually traded in my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon for my TSX because my the Tiburon did not work it left me on the way to Las Vegas 2 times in the middle of the desert, and the 10000 mile warrenty is a joke, i talk to a layer and i was told that the best he could do is have the dealer change the car for anothe tiburon, i didnt like that idea i dont trust korean cars any more so what i did is traded it in for a TSX and the first thing i did was take it to Las vegas and it made it! the ride was smooth and it has better gas mpg that the smaller Tiburon. man every one that i know loves my TSX and specially the interior, ONE TIP OF ADVICE WHEN YOU TAKE IT IN FOR YOU REGULAR 10 THOUSAND MILE SERVICE MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR SYNTHETIC OIL, I took it in to get serviced and it cost me 65 dollars and some change but i bought the oil and it cost about 30 dollars, if you get synthetic oil in the car you wount have to worry about taking it in untill the next 10,000 miles which for me is until a year from april 22,2004 or when i reach the 20,000 mile mark on my car, BUT if i had put regular oil i would have gone in to get my car 3 time a year or every 3000 mikes (with regular oil). just a tip of advice. |

Acura TSX
In Australia the car is known as an Honda Accord Euro Luxury and sells for around US$33k/ A$44k (on road). Its main competition on price are the cheaper Mazda 6 and Subura Legacy (called Liberty 205i Premium in Aust). Whereas the Europeans like the BMW 318i, Audi A4 2.0 and Mercedes C180 are about US$8k more with similar equipment levels.I thought you might be interested in why the TSX was best for me. The TSX has the most powerful engine at 140KW/200HP with the closest rivals being the 2 Japanese at around 120KW and the 3 Germans ranging 96KW to 105KW. On the road you can really feel the difference. Provided you are prepared to rev the TSX, it drives like a sports car. Having stronger pulling power& highway over-taking strength compared to the other cars. The Mazda 6 is probably the closest to the TSX. An added benefit of the TSX is the short shift manual gearbox - its just so much fun. When on winding roads, the BMW appears to have the best chassis, then followed closely by the TSX.The Subura and Mazda weren't bad, just not as engaging as the BMW or TSX. Not able to comment on the Mercedes and Audi as the dealers wouldn't allow me to take a long test drive on secondary/ country roads. In terms of ride, it is a close call between the BMW and TSX. The latter a little stiffer in the suspension but more composed when pushed hard into a tight corner. The Subura was also excellent with its AWD system. Interior design is really subjective as they all are good looking. Perhaps, the Audi has the best 'quality' feel. Seating was also best in the Audi followed by the BMW & TSX. The Mazda was by far the worst. Little lumbar support and poor rear seat design. The standard audio system sounded best in the Mazda (being Bose), followed by TSX and Mercedes. The BMW standard unit was awful. Another selection criteria were 'whole of life' costs. According to official statistics, the TSX & BMW have the best fuel economy, followed by Mazda. The BMW & Mercedes shared the lowest projected depreciation cost followed equally by the TSX and Subura. However, not sure whether this will hold true for BMW & Mercedes over the longer term for reasons described below. In terms of insurance premium, the Mazda & Subura were best. Overall, the TSX probably would come out on top over a 3 year/ 60,000km period. Apart for the initial price differentia, it was becoming increasingly difficult to pick between the BMW and TSX. Now for the crucial finding. Surprisingly, the BMW & Mercedes quality control just didn't appear to match Audi or the Japanese. There were uneven gaps in panel fit and the leading lines didn't always align.I later learnt that the smaller 4 cylinder models from BMW and Mercedes were sourced from South Africa for the Australian market. In my book, South African quality isn't German nor anywhere near Japanese. With some diublts looming over build quality (and weak engine), the BMW was dropped off my shopping list. In short, had the BMW318i been 'made in germany', the decision between it and the TSX would have come down to apperance as both are for driving enthusiast. However, in selected the TSX there is a sacrifice. The delivery time in Australia for a 2004 build TSX is currently 6 weeks. |
