Strength:

Looks, power, style!

Weakness:

Hesitation in the transmission, sticking electrical switches, faulty programming in daytime running light switches, rear headrest that take up 30% or your rear visibility, power seats with a memory of it''s own and mind to do what it wants when you least expect! Wait a few years for them to get the bugs out of this car or expect a lot of frustrations helping them do it!

This car has the looks! It''s outside style and curves are real eye catchers and it was love at first sight. This is the first model year for the S-60 so beware! My car is full of software bugs: it took three tries to fix a defective sunroof, a power seat that goes to the full down position when you open the car door using the remote, a CD player that skips if you use and make your own CDs, rear headrest restraint system that unless you pay upfront to get an optional fold down device, the headrest block your rear view by more than 30%! I''ve been wrestling with Volvo over the normal daytime driving lights. Once the key is in the ignition and the motor is running, there is no way to turn the lights off. The switch is useless, the car has a mind of it''s own. Great safety feature if driving during the day, very bad if your sitting on a winter''s night in a parking lot trying to keep warm, waiting for your kids to come out of school, and your lights are blarring into the windshield of the guy accross from you doing the same thing! Mt advice...wait. This is the first model year. It has too many bugs for the price and your get ulcers trying to explain the problems to Volvo!!! Let them work the bugs out and buy in two years from now. If you really must buy this car, then do me a favour and take mine off my hands for me!!!

Strength:

Power after turbo lag (15MPH+), styling, trunk size, color selection.

Weakness:

Center cup-holder area leaves some to be desiered. That damn turbo lag!

Much better car than the S70 it replaces. I was shocked. Prefered the older styling of the 70 series until I drove the S60. Far superior. The interior alone leaves it way behind. Opted for the 2.4T but decided to wait a few months and get the T5 with the 5-speed manual. Don''t like the looks of the manaul, trying to look space-age like, but it''ll be much more fun than the auto. But I must say, the 2.4T''s auto-stick was nice.

Improves upon interior of 3 series, value priced, visibility, safety, sex appeal.

ford like knobs, but the same problem can be said for a ferrari

This is volvo''s best creation yet. A wonderful blend of value, class, performance, function...the list goes on and on. And black on black or some silver look great, this volvo has what the previous generations lacked, ...well rounded intelligence.

safety, distinctive looks, engine, classiness, awesome stereo, fit&finish, excellent dealership service

Weakness:

brake dust (to be expected, though) but nothing else!! Never expected to like the car this much but do...

Was at first talked into this car by spouse but the more I drive it the more I love it! Drove a Jag S-type for a couple of days and liked the Volvo better (I was shocked). Also drove a 97,98, and 2000 bmw 3 series and found the Volvo felt much more refined, expensive (shocked again after all the bmw hype). Can see now why some people become Volvo owners for life, the car feels classy, safe and refined but is still pretty fun to drive.

Strength:

-Love the new volvo styling
-Comfortable front seats.
-2.4 Turbo engine provides plenty of power.
-Very large trunk!
-Handels well in the city or our on the road.
-Great A/C system and controls.
-Safety, safety, safety...

Weakness:

-Slight delay when accelerating.
-Some small quality control issues that the dealer fixed.
-Could make the center console more useful.
-Needs a lock button and unlock button on the door.

Have taken some nice weekend road trips in it and have enjoyed the driving. Very comfortable and quiet ride. Gas mileage has been good 26mpg commuting/city driving and 28-30mpg on road trips. Plenty of room inside the car and the trunk is more than addequate. The extra horsepower and the interior finish is worth the money when compared to the base model.

Strength:

Can't beat the 247 HP. Leaves BMW 3-series in the dust on Autobahn.
Safety and service record.
Massive trunk. Plenty of headroom. Wow factor.

Weakness:

Front end steering torque. Handling not as tenacious as BMW 3 series. Blind spot over left shoulder.

A little expensive, but worth the money for safety features alone. Don't understand how ANYONE can give 1 star to this car. Have to believe previous reviewer didn't actually buy one. But I was less than impressed by the base model S60. I have some concerns about what all that torque will do to the front drivetrain over the years.

Strength:

Powerful engine, no noticable turbo lag, very quiet, most comfortable seats in its class. Tried Audi A4, BMW 3 series and Acura TL and couldn't feel comfortable (I'm 6'4"). Lots of headroom and legroom. Safety second to none. Stylish model. Large 75 litre gas tank. Although I've only owned the car a few short weeks, I am extremely impressed with it.

Weakness:

More expensive than Acura, Audi, (but less than BMW and Mercedes). Steering feedback not as good as BMW.

This is a good vehicle for those that want a sports sedan with plenty of interior room or if you have children. It goes like stink when you want it to, but has fine manners when driving in the city.

Strength:

Solid car, feels safe in side, strong base engine, a great improvement over last year's model,

Weakness:

price, durability

Great car - engine, drivability, design (in/out), safety features, fairly quiet. Very noticeable improvement over last year's S70. The brakes are very sensitive. Safety is definitely a strong feature - that is what Volvo stands for.
The S60 with leather, sunroof etc costs over CA$41,000. Maintenance is expected to be expensive. Volvo has a history of small problems and quality control issues (check reviews under S40s and S70s).
Potential buyers should check out Acura 3.2TL or MBC240 for better value and reliability.

Strength:

Driveability: More than enough power, great brakes, good feel for the road without punishing you, superb city/highway hybrid
Exterior: sleek, sporty, and classy styling
Interior: Comfortable (heated) leather seats, ergonomically sound, great head room, excellent sound system, many cup holders
Storage: Large trunk with 60/40 folddown split
Safety: Every Safety feature known to man on the car

Weakness:

Driveability: mild understeer with hard cornering
Exterior: Key hole for trunk in awkward place for daily use
Interior: Unable to hang a parking tag on the rear view mirror, stereo system knobs different than all other cars, more wood trim for center console would be nice, back seat door locks in unusual location that young children can reach
Storage: easy to knock the trunk release on the remote entry by accident
Safety: location of the rear door locks

This is a sport sedan that is meant to be driven daily in both the city and on the highway. It has sleek classy styling with an ergonomically sound interior. Luxury features are modest but satisfactory. Taking a long weekend or longer vacation with the family can be done with no concern for storage space. It has all the safety features to make you feel secure.

Bottom line: it is a functional fun-to-drive car for the person who has to do more than just drive to and from work.

Strength:

Turbo powerplant, tight gearbox, great road manners

Weakness:

Still some torque steer, back seat room tight

My previous car was a Volvo 850 sedan, which I love dearly, but the S60 is light-years ahead. The coupe-like profile, sleek cockpit and huge wheels scream sportiness. People stop and stare. The car's road manners, both on windy back roads and long highways, are excellent. There is still some front-wheel drive torque steer, but thanks to Volvo's excellent drivetrain engineering and the wide, 235 mm tires, I haven't had any real complaints with it. The space-ball shifter, while odd-looking, moves quite naturally, and compares well to my friend's 1994 530i. There's no excuse to get an automatic transmission in a car like this! The turbo powerplant is wonderful and has torque all over the rev range. It's nice being able to pull up next to unsuspecting Audi and Acura drivers in a Volvo and then smoke them (it makes a very satisfying *whoosh*, too). Having the safety features is very comforting, and fortunately, I have never needed them. My 850 was involved in a serious crash, and absorbed the impact just fine- I walked away. I expect the same kind of reliability and safety from the S60. If I had the money to spare, I'd buy an all-wheel drive BMW, but for my money, this is a great car and I look forward to lots of time with it.
