Strength:
Great acceleration-quick 7.5 sec @ 0to60 mph
Weakness:
Dealership must turn off indicator icon for every oil change, otherwise it will stay on after oil is changed. Purchased a pre-owned Volvo S40 1.9T. I loved the turbo option that came with the car, which gave it alot of speed. Although it is pretty fast with or without the sport acceleration on. It came with comfortable leather seats & a handy pop-out drink tray. Plus the CD player which I used all the time had great stereo system to come with it. In the end I personalized it a little by adding a special Volvo grill cover & an appealing sport rims package. |

Strength:
Decent accleration and power. Good AC and heating.
Weakness:
Volvo brake pads wear out fast. When it is time to replace do not go for volvo replacement. Good car, but it is like you pay BMW price for a Camry. So If you are intelligent you would buy a used S40 which is way cheaper. |

Volvo S40
Strength:
Decent acceleration. Comfortable seats, though the car has reliability questions, SO FAR, the engine has been reliable. Outstanding poor weather handling (best I've ever driven.)
Weakness:
Engine runs a little rough at idle. Poor placement of some controls (window buttons for example) Car tends to rattle (noise comes from the cup holder and speaker covers) Good sized trunk, but the entrance to the trunk is too small. "Check Engine Light" was actually a recall and it resolves the problem. Poor gas mileage for a 1.9 liter engine I've owned the S40 since it debuted in the US in 1999. I too have experienced several of the problems explained by other users. HOWEVER, most of my issues were fixed the first time. The car is comfortable, but not too roomy, handling could be better, breaks are excellent, and the car is loaded with safety equipment. Strength:
Wonderful car. Never let me down. Great for getting out of trouble spots on highways. Wonderful accelerator. Great for driving in all climates and areas.
Weakness:
Not really roomy. Then again it is a sports car, eh? This car is superb. It comes with great packages. I've never had problems with it. Everything inside works well, and if it doesn't the dealership fixes it no questions asked. It truly is a world class car. Similar Products Used: Audi A4 BMW 323i |

Strength:
Quick, great safety, cool looking and comfortable little car. Plus the price isn't soo bad...hey it's a Volvo!!!
Weakness:
Kinda small back seats and not as many flashy little features as some cars in it's class(pointless ones really). The car drives great and is very quick. The turbo is much quicker compared to my friends Audi A4. The seats are very comfortable also. The sports package added some cool features like rims, spoiler, small ground effects and leather trim seats. I can't really say one thing bad about it. The only thing is that the Audi A4 does come with a few more little features which are mostly pointless too me. Great rep. and safety (8 airbags plus anti-whiplash seats) make it the better buy. Strength:
Comfortable seats, good preforance, good service
Weakness:
seat does not lay down without rolling wheel, cup holder sucks I bought the base model with only 10 miles. Few problems, had to replace both the brake pads and tires at 32k. I have driven the car all over the southern US with no problems. I have a hard time with activating the cruise control. For the first month of owning the car, a small of old beer would be emitted from the AC system. Dealer has been great for fixing warranty problems. They also provided a rental. The in dash cup holder is junk; I have replaced it through warranty 3 times. I had to replace headlight bulbs and tail light which should be excepted because they burn continuously. Strength:
I am safe in my volvo. It handles great. it looks great, it is more of a luxury car then a sports car. Stereo is great. sunroof is great. everything about this car is great e mail me if you need to
Weakness:
headlights and tail lights tend to go out alot. Ive repalced the windsheild wipers. I got my Volvo S 40 for Christmas and let me tell you i am impressed. My #1 concern was the safty aspect. I am 18 years old and like to party like everyone else did at my age. It handles very well and the sports mode comes in very handy. If you want a car that handles better than it looks, the Volvo s 40 is for you. and with 4 airbags youll drive safe. |

Strength:
Handles well in the snow with winter mode on in the cold weather package.
Weakness:
No support from the company or the dealer for what should be warranty repairs. Reliability is lacking for a car this price. Interior quality sub par my drivers seat wore out three times so far. too much money for far too little options. Too small. Too much cognitive dissonance with this purchase This car's unreliability only has to be exceeded by the incompitence of the dealership which is unable to fix this car without my assistance in most cases. I have had antenna failure, chronic headlight failure, dirver's side seat base that rips and wears continually through the leather. And to top it all off one rear brake that wore out at 19,000 mile and was told" normal wear and tear" Give me a break first of all if the the brakes were soft they should all wear at the same rate not just one. The failure of the dealer and Vovlo not to stand by this car insures that I will be looking elsewhere at lease end. Stay away public buy a BMW or Lincoln or Ford. Don't buy a Vovlo Fords are safe too. Similar Products Used: Volvo S70 Lincoln LS Audi A4 Mercury Sable |

V-40
Strength:
Comfort, climate control, acceleration, sporty performance, safety, styling
Weakness:
The stereo could use better speaker and a sub woofer. For comparisons, our car has the cold weather package, the premium package, factory sport rails, factory bed liner and metallic paint. The list for this car was a little over $32,000 We traded our Land Rover in on our V-40. While I do miss the room and the 4x4 the comfort, ride and perfomance of our V-40 make up for those loses. We just drove 4,000 miles for the holidays and were very impressed with this car. On the way out we averaged 26.3 mpg and 72 mph with a full load of luggage (for 2 weeks away from home) ,a bike on the roof and a boarder collie with kennel. While we could have used a bigger car the V-40 was a joy to drive. We test drove Audi A-4's and Subaru Outbacks and decided on the V-40. To bitter now to find any
Weakness:
Email me for all the details...to much to put here Well....I would go over the 4000 character limit if I were to tell you all the things "WRONG" with my car. The first year I had it I loved it. The minute I brought it into service I have had nothing but problems and the biggest one is that the car does not start at least once a day, with no rhyme or reason as to when it will happen. It has been into service since October till today (in there now) 7 times for this problem and they can't figure out why, so now they "bully" me into getting a tune up from them or "else they can't go any further". They try to tell me that the reason this is happening now is because of a dirty air filter...Yeah ok...anyway, just on here trying to find someone that could help. Customer service is of no help and they really don't care. Similar Products Used: none |
