Decent car for the price but it doesn't have the feel of a true volvo. The overall quality of the interior doesn't live up to that of a volvo....probably due to the involvement of FORD. I've had a lot of minor problems with my s40 including the front passenger's plastic door piece (where the window button is) completely came detached, the AC works but it very hot weather doesn't get cold, the cd player doesn't play certain types of cdr's, the speaker/alarm light on the dash seems to be coming off and the driver's side seatbelt doesn't work well. Also- at times the door locks seem to have problems as well. These...not to mention many underlying problems with the ultimate design.
I am 18 years old and my parents bought me this car 2 months ago with safety as their primary concern. It seemed to be the perfect compromise...I loved the sleek European look and they were happy with the image of volvo as being number one in safety. From reading many reviews it is questionable as to whether this was the right choice. Although I have not had any major problems as some s40 owners who have testified on this site, the minor problems make me a beliver. I am very concerned that with the progression of time I will experience major problems.
