Strength:
Comfort?xD;?xA;Features?xD;?xA;Nice car to drive?xD;?xA;Sound system?xD;?xA;Rrear seat
Weakness:
Road noise?xD;?xA;transmission?xD;?xA;reliability?xD;?xA;Overheating I purchased the 1995 LHS off of a 2 year lease from a leasing company. It had 28,000 miles on it. I loved the car for comfort and features as well as performance. However, two kinds of problems arose over the 5 years and 60,000 miles that I owned the car, big problems and little, nagging problems. ?xD;?xA;1.) Transmission rebuilt at 58,000 miles - around $2,000?xD;?xA;2.) Water Pump at 76,000 miles $400?xD;?xA;3.) Transmission again at 80,000 miles - The second time, they said that the first job was done incorrectly and incompletely even though I paid for a full rebuild job.?xD;?xA;4.) Periodic overheating - probably 3-5 times a year. I replaced the thermostat but the problem reappeard shortly thereafter. Seemed to crop up in transition from highway speeds to getting stuck in traffic. I was convinced that sooner or later I would not notice the gauge and burn up my engine.?xD;?xA;5.) Starter fails to crank sometimes but always started, eventually - mystery problem that mechanic couldn''''t figure out?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;I finally grew tired and sold the car to Carmax for $2,800 or so at 87,000 miles. Too bad since this is a pretty luxury car with nice features. My kids protested loudly when they heard I was getting rid of the Chrysler. They loved the comfort of the rear seat.?xD;?xA;?xD;?xA;Oh yeah, I would never buy a Chrysler product again although I would consider a three year lease and promptly dump the vehicl Similar Products Used: Mercury Couger - my ''''80 Cougar was not good?xD;?xA;Nissan Quest - this is a reliable van! |

SE Turbo
Strength:
Turbo - great power in a 4 cyl car - lots of opportunity for upgrades to power Great highway driving even over 100mph Looks - you have to love it to buy it in the first place Creature comforts (except the dreaded cup holder fiasco) Hatchback - I managed to fit 3 mountain bikes (with seats down) + equipment (lots of it) + there was room to spare. Good stereo on the SE
Weakness:
Handling - suspension needs to be upgraded for good cornering. Loads of understeer after boosting engine power Low RMP torque is not there 2nd gear is quirky - have to use 1st to get to 25-30mph then get into 2nd - great performance then to 60mph! Interior gets somewhat loose after 6 years of driving. Fun car to drive. Reliable (100,000 miles). Much more fun after few upgrades at the local tuner shop. Get an upgraded ECU from Abbott Racing and new exhaust as a start for extra 50 horses and Nm of torque. Spend few more bucks and you can get it easily to 250+hp. Just then have to spend cash on the suspension, etc. to handle this much power. Turbo is great. Space (interior/trunk) is plenty for this relatively small car. |

Strength:
Besides being reliable for seven years, I''ve always liked its pickup (good for a non-turbo 4 cylinder), intelligent layout and amenities, and fine styling. I love the heated front seats and rear wiper - a good winter car for Chicagoland winters. I also love the roomy trunk/cargo hatch area.
Weakness:
The cupholders are bad. There could be more compartments to stash things. The front headlights burn out fast. I love this car. I was a bit scared to buy it, since I''d heard mixed things about Saabs. But I''ve owned this car seven years and it has been a real joy to own. After seven years, you''d expect major horror stories, but I don''t have any. It''s been a joy since day one. |

Strength:
Tight steering on corners, unique car, really turns heads as not everyone has one. cozy bucket seats, both the cloth and leather are great quality, plus the heated seats heat up quickly and keep a decent temperature (with auto shutoff!). Great turbo pickup and power accelerating from a stop (I own an Automatic) - a lot of car for a 4cyl. engine.
Weakness:
radio has a tendency to lower in volume at a stop or randomly when driving. Seat alignment is uncomfortably shifted to the left - takes some getting used to. Can be tough to handle on a really bumpy road, the steering gets really jerky. Saab 9-3 is a fun, affordable luxury car. A zippy and unique, sporty little car at a very affordable luxury price. The car''s greatest assets are its comfortable interior, Turbo charge, and turning capacity (not much worry a/b rollover). Weaknesses are odd drivers side seat and petal alignment and notoriously slippery wiring - watch your radio and panels (speed dials, gas, etc) carefully and make sure you get tune ups! All together though an awesome car, worth the buy, I would definitely look into owning Saabs long into the future after this car. Saab 9-3
Strength:
Great engine and transmission. Interior layout is comfortable and convenient. Exterior is beautiful. Everybody looks at this car!
Weakness:
Cup holders are in a bad place but do you really need to drink your coffee in your new Saab?! Great car! Quick 4 cylinder engine gets about 30 mpg on highway 28 in town. A little torque steer but you get used to it. Built like a tank, very solid and safe. Great styling inside and out. Comfortable, warm seats. Great interior layout. Smooth shifting manual transmission. Plenty of trunk room. I would recommend this car to anyone. I drove a 3 series BMW before buying the Saab. BMW was a great car but didn''t impress me as much as the Saab! Fast. Stereo is great, top is simple to use and car looks great. Drives very nice and very comfortable.
Weakness:
Steering torque on acceleration. Cup holders are useless, console needs to be bigger. Great car! Very fast and 27 MPG! Down works wonderful even my wife can do it. I wish I would have got the Viggen. This model needs wider tires for the look. I would recommend to anyone. No problems or bugs so far. Similar Products Used: None |

Computers in cars make me nervous, but no problems so far.....computer can be in 6 different languages. What a great car. I have 54,000 miles and haven''''t had a problem yet. I have been a strong believer in SAABS AND VOLVOS since college. I have the original tires and brakes. I still have 1/2 life on the factory Michelins. Similar Products Used: Volvo 740, 240, 850 |

Strength:
* Styling, women love it * Engine, powerful and smooth * Gearing great in 3 & 5th * Heated seats are great in winter * Relaxed cruiser, or exciting bruiser * Great 2nd hand purchase, you get a lot of car for your money !
Weakness:
* Mechanical glitches can taint ownership experience * Climate control complex to operate * Interior can be wear quickly * Engine noisy at low speeds * Rear visibility is not great in convertible form * Depreciation is ballistic ! Great looking car, 3-spoke Viking alloys are sweet, turbo takes a while to exploit but cracking once your used to it, chassis is iffy; reluctant to take it around corners too fast, it''s not a light car like a Integra. Engine is super smooth, feels like a big V6, gear changes are slow, but great power and range in 3rd make up for it. Torque steer is not a problem, you get used to avoiding it very quickly. Avoid 2.3 V6 models, they are known to have many mechanical flaws. Great support available from www.saabnet.com Proper maintenance is essential, these cars can be very reliable or absolute pigs, repairs can cost mega $$$, get a warranty, mine has already paid for itself (within 3 months of ownership!). 9-3 models are supposed to be much better built, less GM components. Similar Products Used: 1992 Honda Civic (solid as a rock, although no way near as fun). 2001 Mazda Protege (easy to drive, well built, feels like engine has been removed in comparison) |

Strength:
It number one strength is its power through the jear box. It shifts very smooth through all five gears and has great accelleartion in all gears. I love the leather interior; doesn't get anywhere near as hot as my Jetta did. It has a great combination of handling and ride confort. I haven't experienced any of the oversteer that Saabs were known for. With 4000 miles i have had zero problems. It also has a lot of nice upgrades available, like carbon fiber shift knob and dash so you can add your own personal touch. Oh yeh, most comfortable seats I have sat in!
Weakness:
It has an ugly stereo, but I can live with that. Fist gear is a little short if you are excellerating hard. I love the one touch windows down. Why aren't they one touch up? I guess I want everything. I absolutely love this car. I always heard bad things about Saabs. However, I saw an add and decided to test drive one. I was hooked after the first drive. I did some research, saabs seem to havecome a long way, and decided to give it a try. I have always loved the way they look... well excepth for the 9000. I have had a VW Jetta VR6 and a BMW 325is and this is the best car I have owned!! The BMW had better sport handling and may have been a little nicer inside but the Saabs just becomes part of you the minute you sit in it. It is the smoothest car I have owned. It is very sharp looking and it is nice too know there isn't as many around as VW's and BMW's. Similar Products Used: Compared with my Jetta VR6 and BMW 325is this is the best of the three. BMW and Jetta handle a little better, but the saab has a better overall ride. BMWs' rear wheel drive doens't help it out too much in the Northeast. With my traction control the Saab has handled great in the rain. Haven't seen it in the snow yet. The Saab and BMW are much roomier than the VW. saab has the most room with its hatch back design. All three are very stylish, but I think the Saab wins that because it is more unique. I do like all three; I just like the Saab the most! |
