Strength:

Terrific looks , wonderful engine and lots of gee-wiz features to keep someone excited for the whole day .

Weakness:

Acceleration and performance are not up to standard , and prices of options are too high .

A wonderful car to live day-in and day-out . Lots of features , good looks and generous space . There are some short-comings of the car ( like the noisy front suspension on dirt roads , lack of drives footrest and other minor things ) , but they count little when taken in the big picture . Five-speed transmission is one of the best around , and interior is very well made with nice seats and a very well laid out dash . And what's more , it cost's less than the car it replaced !!

I compared it with the 750iL and the Lexus LS400 . Although is gave the LS400 the fright of it's life , it just marginally won form the 750iL .

Strength:

Exterior styling

Weakness:

EVERYTHING: rattles, bounces, shakes, creaks, uncomfortable seats, lousy interior for a car of this price....the list goes on and on

What a dissapointment of a car. Maybe the one we drove was accidented, but what a waste of money and metal. The 1988 Mercedes 560SEL had the worst ride i've ever felt in a car. It would shake, dive, rattle like crazy, make weird noises, and bounce all over the place. The seats were springy (ive felt the same thing on other model mercedes of that era), and the interior is very teutonic and sterile. If such an expensive car wears out like that after 9-10 years, then I would never buy a Mercedes out of priniciple. Again, maybe the model we drove had been accidented or messed up, but it was still a very dissapointing experience.

Strength:

Drivability, appointments, beauty of design, quiteness, incredible speed up steep mountain grades, smooth braking, and suprisingly good mileage at 22mph on highway at top speeds(85mph and more). It is fantastic.

Weakness:

The only one worth mentioning is the underpowered air conditioner blower motor. These damn Germans are not strong in airconditioning. They need to live in the desert.

Top car. I have owned Mercedes for many years but this is the best driving vehicle I have ever owned. I liked it so much that I have even forgiven the dealership for the low trade in they gave me on my 4 year old S500.

Similar Products Used:

There is no similar product. Only the wannabe copiers like Lexus. They even ripped off the emblem.

Comfort, Moves with authority, BRAKES!, Picks up well for a two-ton auto, Reliability, The slickest automatic transmission on any car...EVER!

Weakness:

Power windows(see review),GAS GUZZLER!

This car is the best investment I have ever made. The dealer must have been sauced when he let me have it for 6 G's. It rides smooth with tight steering and a transmission so damn smooth that you can barely even hear, let alone feel it shift. The only way to tell is by looking at the tach. It's quite fast for a car that ways about 4000 pounds. But this is only the tip of the iceberg, I've owned the car for about three years now and have only had one problem: both front power window regulators broke on the same day. The parts took about a week to come in, so I was literally having to work the windows with my hands (needless to say I went through a few bottles of windex). To sum it all up I wouldn't trade this car for anything. People can argue reliability and how MB's are maintenance monsters but the bare facts are that it depends on the car and the individual. The prelude that I previously owned seemed shabbily made and was VERY unreliable despite the ubiquitous H hood ornament that people have begun to associate with quality. The interior was plasticy and fell apart after about a year, and the paint chipped despite my best efforts. My girlfriend's Accord V6 is nice but still feels like a go-cart. To make a long story slightly longer, I'll take the old three-pointed star over that little silver H any day.

1996 Accord V6: Nice car, sort of fast, but a toy compared to the 420's 4.2 Liter.
1995 Prelude VTEC: Faster than the Benz, but so damn uncomfortable, cheap paint and materials, and you have to rev the HELL out of the engine to get the power whereas the MB moves along with a cool, quiet confidence.
1992 Cadillac Deville: Tire incinerating american luxo. Good car,but so UGLY!
