Model Reviewed: 300D 2.5 Turbo Diesel

Strength:

Built like a tank!
Heavy doors
Thick leather
Comfy seats
Nice stock stereo
Reliability
OVER 30MPG!
Like glue on curves
Made of metal not plastic
People's reaction to a 16yo behind the wheel

Weakness:

A/C not real cold
No standard CD player
Acceleration can go either way; sometimes fast, sometimes slow
Trunk is small against my mom's A6
Rear wheels spin in rain
Everything costs more than a Ford/Chevy/Dodge
Doesn't get better than this, it's my first car! Everything from here is a let down!!!

The first time I saw it was nice. It was a huge value even though it had over 110,000 miles on it. Hey, it's a diesel it'll last forever!!! Now it has nearly 190,000 miles on it and we've only had to fix some things.
1) rebuilt Transmition at 130,000
2) Alternator at 150,000
3) Alternator again due to glow plugs (free) at 160,000
4) Glow Plug related thing at 180,000
5) Driver's window motor at 180,000

Lives up to the name MERCEDES-BENZ

Strength:

I love it. Down right the best mercedes I've ever driven. Blazing fast, ferrari-like handling, superior ride quality, great value. The seats are ver supportive and it helps when you're flying around corners. Very easy control system, great ergonomics. Very practical, midsize super sport sedan that can carry the family and luggage. No stupid little doodads just serious performance and quality. A great car.

Weakness:

The headlight washers are kind of useless and they spray on the hood, but if you're at a stop light and there's a convertible next to you you can give them a little shower. Other than that, nothing

Best Merc I've ever experienced.

Model Reviewed: /E320

Strength:

I normally buy a new car every two years. I've had my E320 for 31 months. Still feels new. Tight and quiet. Excellent ride. Very quiet. Excellent gas mileage for the size and level of luxury. I highly recommend it. Resale value seems to be holding up very well. Dash board is clean. All buttons work as expected and have a sold feel to them.

Weakness:

Routine maintenance is about double the Acura or Linconln. The headlamp washer sprays over the hood and doesn't do much as far as cleaning goes.

I bought every option, so it was around $56,000. I would highly recommend it. However, the new S-Class looks really good, too. If you want speed, the E55 is the fastest thing out there. If you like a stiffer ride and want to feel the rode, stick with the BMW 5 or 7 series.

Similar Products Used:

Acura RL 3.5, Lincoln Continental, BMW 5 Series. Acura and Lincoln are too soft and little on the cheap side for finishes, buttons, etc. I don't like the looks of the 5 series. E320 had a better ride.

Model Reviewed: E55 AMG

Strength:

Astonishing power, but a pussycat around town. Quiet and refined, with all the usual qualities associated with Mercedes-Benz. Nearly anonymous bar the AMG front spoiler and rubber-band tyres. 15% more torque than an M5.

Weakness:

Crashy over bumps, not helped by stiff Bilstein shocks and low profile tyres. Huge, huge torque means traction control reigns you in regularly. If you're expecting regular E-class magic-carpet ride, forget it. Rain sensor from another planet. Seats lack shape and support for country-road driving, and are more in tune with long haul motorway trips.

Having owned more than 40 cars in 14 years of driving, I can safely say that you can keep your Nissan Skylines, TVR Griffiths, Porsche 911s, BMW 740i Sports, Lexus GS430s, and BMW M3 Evolutions. The E55 AMG is simply amazing, combining E-Class refinements with a big, bad, V8 monster. Sixty arrives in five seconds dead. 100mph another five seconds later. The urge continues. Ease off and that wonderful NASCAR-like orchestra from the V8 disappears, and once again you're coasting around in a standard E430. In contrast, the M5 has a brash image, not helped by a bank of four exhaust pipes and numerous other bad-boy styling extras, and too many pretenders to mention: the 530 Sport, 535 Sport and 540 Sport are near identical to look at. If you're thinking about an E55, hesitate no longer. Off the throttle it's wonderfully low-key and unassuming, only hinting at its M5 class roots when you jump on the gas.

Similar Products Used:

Comparable in to the Alpina B10 V8, but with superhuman grunt. All the strengths of a car of this class, including muted interior, relaxed touring, and a seamless auto gearbox that makes any sort of driving a real pleasure. ESP and ASP traction less abrupt than the BMW equivalent.

Strength:

Power, speed, comfort, safety.

Weakness:

Intermittent wiper should have variable speeds. Infrared remote only works from close proximity.

I was shopping for a used E320 but ended up with this with only 21K miles and still under warranty, a steal! The styling is distinctive but doesn't stand out too much, which is a plus for me in NYC. A stealth car that is much faster and nimbler than it looks, and the stopping power is unbelievable.

I don't know if this also applies to E320s, but the road feel is almost too much (although the ride itself is smooth). Still I'd rather have too much than too little.

My biggest complaint is that the cellular phone that came with the car is of the old analog type that is pretty much useless (only Verizon has a plan that supports it, at a ridiculous cost). Unfortunately it can't be upgraded to digital unless you want to pay mondo $$$.

I was looking for a new Volvo S60 or a loaded Passat, but instead got an entree to automotive heaven for less money. If you're looking for a new upscale sedan in the $30K range, I would recommend checking out used E320 or E420 Benzes first. There is just no comparison.

Strength:

Comfortable, roomy, nice handling, 10 airbags, quiet, feels solid.

Weakness:

Beeps till you fix it for things that are unimportant like no window cleaning fluid, stereo door (for tapes) is not shut, etc. But no warning for doors that are fully closed - all Japanese cars are standard with a red indicator on dashboard.

We chose this car mainly because of its better safety features. Less problems than BMW. Great interior space. Very happy with it.

Similar Products Used:

BMW 5 series - more stylish but not as roomy. Cheap interior.
Lexus GS300- hard to see odometer because it's buried too deep into the dashboard.
